This branch of Abode is part of an ultra-modern circular building shared with both municipal buildings as well as a Miller & Carter steakhouse. I had booked two rooms one for myself and my wife, a second for my sister-in-law and daughter. Although both rooms were of the same standard and identically priced the one on the third floor for my sister-in-law and daughter was larger than the one on the fourth floor because it had to accommodate larger beds. What was a little irritating was the card key system which prevented us from accessing each other's rooms or even floors whether via the stairs or lift. No complaints whatsoever about the cleanliness or comfort of the rooms. Breakfast is served on the fifth floor fortunately equally accessible from the third and fourth floors with a view of the racecourse. Waiting staff were apologetic when it was pointed out the eggs benedict I had ordered had metamorphosed into eggs and salmon. The following morning (Sunday) it would appear my sister-in-law and I shared the last remaining fresh kipper of the week as diners who ordered after us were served a yellow packeted substitute. Yoghurt and fresh fruit in kilner jars was probably the best of the bufet situated in the adjoining room.
"Average stay at average hotel"
My husband and I stayed here for one night. Staff on reception were lovely, polite and professional. We stayed on the third floor, but I have to say the room was very small. On first glance the room appeared clean and comfortable. However on further inspection I found several stains on the bed sheets, hair and soap scum in the shower plug hole and dirt/' mould around the tiles in places. There is also no bath, just a walk in shower, shampoo but no conditioner. On the up the location is good for exploring Chester as it's just a 5 minute walk to the shops and bars. Breakfast was nice with a selection of fruits and cereals as well as a full English. Try and book at reception if it's not included in your package as they charge £10, if you go directly to the restaurant they charge £15 ! Over all, an average stay in an average hotel.
"Room not available for visit."
The ambience, for me, is a little on the impersonal because it is too vast in size. The harsh marble and minimal furnishings don't create any feeling of comfort and warmth yet in the corridor areas leading to the bedrooms it is a bit like a rabbit warren. The only thing that is great are the large floor to ceiling windows which provide a grand view of the racecourse.
"Sleepless in Chester"
Restaurant was excellent, service and food outstanding. Front desk staff were distracted and disorganised. Disappointed with the room. Noise level from adjacent lift was horrendous and we did not sleep well. This spoiled the stay and if we were to stay again I would definitely ask for a quiter room.
Having previously stayed at this hotel for Chester Races and been impressed with the rooms I booked a work conference here last week. There was 16 people and we used the Paddock Meeting room for 2 days which was off the restaurant with large patio sliding doors leading onto a balcony with lovely views of the racecourse. The food and service was excellent. We would definitely use this facility again.
