"A modern hotel by Marriott with no benefits"
Great Hotel and value in excellent location and close to Trains and restaurants. but if you are an elite members of Marriott except no benefits not even water. About staff there is no comment is AMAZING, they all deserve 5stars.
"Standard 4 star hotel"
There is nothing to fault about this hotel but somehow it does not leave any strong impression. As part of the AC hotel chain, it certainly maintain that standard. Clean room, adequate breakfast. If anything, I would comment that the location is rather great. We were able to explore the city on foot. On our last day we even walked all the way to Barcelona Sants (main train station) with our luggage.
"Top Business Hotel"
The AC Hotel Irla at Calvet 40-42 is perfect for your business or city trip stay. Very central located, super clean rooms, the hotel staff is supportive, friendly and very customer focused and I really loved the breakfast.
"Options Galore-Great base camp for Barcelona Week"
OK, this hotel is not in the center of Barcelona, but a tram line stops right out front of hotel, 3 minutes later your' at the Maria Christina tube stop, 10 minutes, later you'er at La Rambla. Got the 4 day unlimited pass and felt it was as easy as the tube in London to get around town, also works on Tram and Buses. The Hotel is located in a major shopping Center (Irla), with an international food pavilion, and many restaurants within 2-4 blocks, and in the evenings lots of foot traffic and lighting for a sense of security. The hotel staff was very accommodating, most especially Alejandro at front desk, he helped with a number of questions and hints for the city. The room, as an platinum upgrade and had the a more than king size bed. Toilet area was oversized, and we were above the major shopping center entrance on third floor, facing the main traffic of the Avinguda Diagonal, no issues with noise, very quite. OK, every hotel has demons, ours had a toilet that smelled like feline urine, we asked the morning desk clerk for assistance, the problem was reduce, not eliminated, but for those who have been on a cruise ship, you can put up with some faint odor. (my wife and I are not big on moving rooms once settled) this was not a deal breaker, and by the third day, had vanished. Lastly----the bar does not open till 7:00pm how uncivilized.
"The hotel smells like sewer"
After spending a few days at hotel Claris, we transferred to this hotel. Thinking that it was of the Marriott brand we were excited to go there......not so fast! When you walk in the smell of raw sewage overwhelms you, and it was this way all three nights so it was not a passing phase. As for the food you ask' Well the restaurant is only open for breakfast, and a hefty priced one for what you get. The meats were spoiled in my opinion, which most would think that aged meats would tend to smell this way, but these were just off tasting and had that "left out too long in the heat" smell to them. As for the front desk, well good luck finding the people, they are always hiding in their office, perhaps they have something in there that makes things smell better' Marriott should step their game up with this dump.
