"Great luxury boutique hotel with superb location"
AC Palacio del Retiro is a great luxury boutique option in Madrid for those that love the intimacy of a boutique property. The hotels has only 50 rooms and it is a converted palace facing Parque del Retiro close to everything. The rooms are modern and luxurious. My room had a very comfortable king size bed, a large flat screen TV, and a large bathroom with separate shower and huge tub. As an elite Marriott member I enjoyed free wifi and continental breakfast with an option to enjoy the full buffet at a very discounted rate. The service was top notch and personalized as you would expect in a boutique property. The front desk and restaurant staff made every effort to make my stay pleasant. I would definitely come back and highly recommend for those that enjoy a luxury boutique experience.
"Good hotel in a great location"
My wife and I enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location is perfect, located across the street from the Retiro Park. It is an old mansion that has been converted into a hotel. Our room was both spacious and modern. We enjoyed the breakfast and bar areas of the hotel a great deal. The staff spoke excellent English and were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.
"Great Hotel in a Great Location"
I stayed here with my husband and my 22-year-old son on our recent trip to Spain. We shared a Junior Suite, which will accommodate three people with an extra bed. Even with the extra bed, this was a spacious room, which included an area with a sofa, a chair and a coffee table. The bathroom had plenty of towels, including a heated towel rack. The double sink vanity was separated from the shower/toilet/bidet area, which made it easier for three people to get ready in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bellman even did double-duty as the "IT guy" one night and changed the cartridge in the printer, so that we could print our boarding passes! The location is great with the beautiful Retiro Park across the street and many good restaurants and cafes nearby. This is a great location if you plan to visit the art museums, as the Prado is about a 10-minute walk. The Reina Sofia and the Thyssen are a few minutes further, but still close. Just one small suggestion -- change the electrical system so that one can use the Nespresso machine without having to turn on the main power switch for the room lights. This way an early riser can get a cup of coffee without having the lights wake up others in the room who are still sleeping. The only thing that was not connected to the main power switch were the bathroom and vanity lights and the bedside reading lamps.
"Beautiful, smells good, good breakfast"
We stayed at this place just recently on a trip to Spain. From the moment we walked in, you're greeted with this amazing aroma and every time you walk in, you smell it. I know it sounds weird to say but the lobby just smells great. Check-in was easy, we had to wait a couple hours to get into our room but we expected it after a few trips to Europe and getting early flights in. It was easy to get to the metro from here. A short 5 minute walk but is still 15 minutes away by walk to the plaza Del sol. Breakfast in the cafe was simple and good. There are two options, hot buffet or continental. I tried both. They were reasonably priced and both good. The buffet had plenty of options. The room was clean and quite spacious. I did not like that the bathroom had glass doors, it does not aid for privacy but it was still spacious and clean.
"Pretty but Disappointed"
From a seasoned Marriott owner and user this property is indeed well maintained. The lobby is plain and rather cold. the sitting/dining area is just the opposite in that it is inviting and comfortable. Personal were helpful and kind. Our room was a huge disappointment. The hall was dark as the room.
