"Sweet Spot for Spring Skiing, Charming Service, Delicious Vegetarian Delights!"
We agree with the huge number of "Excellent" reviews and almost unanimous 5-star ratings. We avoid repeating points made in other reviews. Instead we focus on the lovely way the hotel interacted with our needs and created a wonderful memorable experience. We are a Vegetarian couple who travel widely, speak many languages, ski for over 30-years in European countries. We have a good idea of the competing range of accommodation options. We know the French Alps and Les Arcs but we did not previously know Hotel L’Aiguille Grive. We found it searching the web. It seemed a new good fit with our wishes: good Spring snow, ski-to-door, boutique decor, peaceful, relaxed natural environment. We were also inspired by the overwhelming number of positive reviews (85% "Excellent"; 10% "Very Good") and enthusiasm about food. Before we arrived, Hotel L’Aiguille Grive wrote us to ask if we had special needs; we explained that we are Vegetarian. After our first evening meal, the staff spoke with us and the director Julie emailed to ask if we were happy. They all spoke frankly about their capabilities and desire to learn more about serving the growing number of Vegetarians. This was thoughtful and personal. They listened to us with interest. We appreciated this. They asked what kinds of things they could do to serve us better. As a result, the next evening meal amazed us and exceeded our expectations. The staff and kitchen clearly had taken our input seriously. They pushed themselves to do their best to create something new that responded to our wishes and to make us happy. The entire evening was relaxed, enjoyable, beautiful, creative, intelligent and delicious. It also impressed us that the staff seemed to work as a team and aware of our wishes. Before, during and after the meal, many staff asked in natural, warm friendly ways if we were happy and if we would like to share more feedback on anything. There was a sense of happy working community. In our view, this is the sweet-spot for boutique-quality. It is not stuffy over-the-top formality. If you appreciate contact with people who seem to bring together "hearts, minds and skills" into genuinely care: this is the place. In summary, Hotel L’Aiguille Grive is good quality, personal, charming and cares about people. We respect, appreciate and enjoy this. There are many other positive things to say, such as good skiing and impressive views of natural surroundings, as you can read about in so many other positive reviews. We look forward to return. We hope you are fortunate to be able to enjoy and appreciate this special place as much as we do.
"A gem on the slopes"
If you are looking for a great location for skiing - on the slopes, ski in ski out, shortest walk ever to the equipment lockers -, very comfortable accommodation, great food and terrific customer service, then this is the place for you. Julie and her staff do everything they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible - nothing is too much trouble for them. It's not the place if it's lively and loud après-ski that you're after, but if you want good standard of rooms and high quality food and drink, and all on your doorstep, then Aiguille Grive is a great choice.
"Fantastic - again!"
We stayed at the Aiguille Grive in late February 2016 and had an absolutely fantastic stay. All the staff were friendly and helpful - especially Julie the Manager, we left feeling like we'd made a friend! This time it was a bit of a last minute booking as we hadn't intended to ski this year, but we are so glad we did! the excitement starts from the minute you arrive and get picked up in the Polaris to be whisked up the slope to the hotel. Everyone who greeted us from the cleaners to the reception staff, to the barman and the manager was friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The chalets are beautiful and very comfortable, especially after a long day skiing. The food is amazing - so much choice at breakfast (cereals, meats, cheeses, pancakes, pastries, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, breads) and the evening meals were wonderful (we had the set menu each evening and there wasn't a single meal that I wouldn't eat again). We are a family of 10 and there was plenty of space for all of us in the chalet. The children enjoyed all the meals (even though one or two are 'fussy eaters') and they loved playing board games in the bar before going for our evening meal. They especially enjoyed attempting to order their drinks in French - thank you to a very patient barman! The hotel is situated perfectly - not in the centre, so nice and quiet - but right on the slopes so that it is definitely ski on/ski off and handy for those of us who wanted to come in a bit earlier or stop for beer and chips. We had a very early start for our way home (6.15am) but the Polaris was ready and waiting to take us and our bags down and they had even packed us breakfast which was very welcome and as always delicious! Already wishing we could be back there (it's only been a week) and planning our next trip to Aiguille Grive - thank you to Julie and everyone for making our very short break a very enjoyable one - we will see you soon! xx
"Simply perfect "
Initially we booked another accommodation in Arc1800, but we are so lucky that finally we chose L'aguille Grive chalets! It was one of the most pleasant stays in our family history! Friendly staff, perfect chief, comfortable rooms, convenient location (if there is a snow, and it snowed finally). Thanks to Julie, the manager, to Thierry, the chief, and to all the staff
"New Year 16/17"
We visited over New Year and had a fantastic time. NY itself was a memorable night. Full evening meal then DJ with live saxophonist with dancing to 2am. Very happy memories. Thank you again Julie! We were 3 families or 4 each so took up a whole chalet linked to the hotel bar/ restaurant/ reception. Half board with NY party in the restaurant. The chalets are on three floors with good living area and four double bedrooms internally. Two further double rooms are within the block but accessed separately. Ideal for older children. Ski/ boot room in block with heated boot rack. Covered link to Hôtel for breakfast and evening meal. We were in Les Arcs for probably the worst snow fall period for a long while. Les Arcs resort however provided snow down to the Hôtel so still virtually ski in, ski out despite the poor snow. A great achievement! In good snow you can ski from and to the door easily and down to the Trans-arc lift in a minute. Also easy to get across to the cable car for La Plagne from here. Julie and her team were fantastic. Professional and warm and friendly from start to finish. They sorted out every request from ski rental to lifts into town centre. Food was excellent particularly breakfast. All staff speak English well. We transferred using Coolbus (based in Bourg SM) who I would also recommend.
