"It is perfect in every way with one exception!"
This is a very special place and based on my experience I am sad that I did NOT stayed here much longer. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: - The place is in the middle of a desert nature reserve. Beautiful quiet and relaxing - The room, bed, bathroom, private pool, views are just absolutely perfect. We had an extra bed for ~1900 AED for my child. - The service is attentive warm and very personal. International crew from all around the world. Most of the guides are from South Africa - 2 activities are included and they are really well organized. Camel rides and Dune Bashing are my top 2 picks. - Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included and there are all high quality food and presentation. Cons: - Perhaps we got unlucky or set our expectations too high, but almost all of the food we ordered was missing flavor. They did not taste bad, but just lacking flavor to the point that we left most of the food on the plate. I am really not sure why, because the looks and presentation of everything was top notch. Overall, it would be ridiculous for me to not give 5 star rating to this resort. I would like to return to Al Maha one day and ideally stay longer for about 4-5 days.
"Plan to stay at least a few days"
I went to Al Maha with family for a quick getaway. One night was not enough. The resort is amazing! Very luxurious and relaxing. I believe they only have 37 suites (and they don't allow children under 10 - I don't think kids would enjoy this resort anyway) so it makes for a more intimate experience. The staff is amazing and very attentive. Small things to note to help enhance your experience (nothing listed is a problem/issue but things I would have liked to have known ahead of time): 1. The resort will email you the day prior to your arrival to confirm your arrival time. Once you reach the resort security gate, you have to park your car at a car park and a field guide will come to pick you up in a jeep. It's about a 10 min drive out to the resort. Confirming your arrival ahead of time (and even calling as they suggest just prior to reaching) helps ensure you're not waiting for the field guide to arrive. 2. There is a dinner dress codes. Specifically, gents are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes (no shorts) 2. Each night includes 2 desert activities (these are prescheduled times which have to be adhered to - usually either post 3pm or around 8am - this is due to high desert temps during the day) 3. Each night includes 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner). So for example, if you arrive early on Day 1 and have lunch, if you check out Day 2, lunch can be purchased at an additional cost, it's not included.
"Al Maha (conservation area)"
Still our favourite desert resort since 1999! Wonderfully attentive and friendly staff who go out of their way to make your visit the best it can be. Always an amazing experience. Look out for Zibyaan naughty boy camel - so well behaved as well as free roaming wildlife. Highly recommended for a special occasion or just when you feel like a treat.
"Great 25th anniversary start to a 25 day trip"
Wow!! That's all we can say! I don't get what others complained about online. I almost cancelled our trip because of some of the negative reviews. Fortunately, ALL of the negative comments, assuming they were true, were resolved. Let's begin. I'm ambassador level in SPG which is highest level, above platinum which most hotels don't even know exist. They did and acknowledged it. They gave us theBedouin suite with the most amazing view. For our last night there, which was our anniversary, they sent us a beautiful cake and bottle of champagne. We had an amazing dinner around the pool in the back of the villa. Prakash, the food and beverage manager was amazing as was the chef pietro( sorry may have spelled that wrong) were both beyond attentive to our every request Staff was amazing from check in to check out. People complained about bath products. They're all now Bulgari. Irfan, the front desk manager, made sure everything was perfect for us. Jason our activities guide who we met at check in and was with us till check out for all our activities was excellent. This is a very unique location with amazing attentive staff. It is truly a once in a lifetime location that you won't find anywhere else and we have been everywhere. In fact, I'm writing this review from the W hotel Maldives. We only recommend it! Enjoy!
We had a three night stay in November and we really enjoyed the relaxing hours in the resort. It is a really quiet resort and you can enjoy the quiet hours during the day after the morning desert activity or the afternoon activity. The food is is very good and you risk putting on some weight with three meals a day. The only criticism is that staff could ride less excessively with the resort buggies.
