"Special place for a special event"
5* all round From the location on the piste - right by the Plein Sud lift, to the free shuttles to drop you in and out of town - at the drop of a hat. The level of service was unquestionable, from our check in and our personal tour of the hotel, to our beautiful duplex room - our stay was fabulous. Our car was valet parked and brought back to us ready for departure. The room had a beautiful view of the piste and the mountains, a rainforest shower in the bathroom, a bath upstairs behind our bed (and two loos!) There were two single beds which were fine for our elder teens. The housekeeping was impeccable; A thorough clean and tidy during the day - turning downstairs into a lounge , and then again in the evening to prepare the beds. The room had tv , Apple Mac computers and a bose sound dock - none of which we used! Breakfast was delicious , everything you could wish for and delicious too. The lounger bar area was sophisticated but warm welcoming - although the prices (as you would expect) not cheap. The Spa area was warm and light with the outside pool affording a view of the mountain. The pool warm, with a hot tub. Downstairs the steam and sauna rooms seemed under used, but lovely. The on-site ski shop was first class, and I wish we had hired our skis and boots from there (would have been so much easier to collect and return) albeit our free shuttle dropped us back up there. It is genuinely ski-in, ski out at the bottom of Plein Sud. So, a fantastic location, beautiful facilities, but our stay was made by superb service. Nothing was too much trouble by all staff regardless of whether it was breakfast, the spa , concierge , front desk or the guys running the shuttle. There was a minor hiccup with one restaurant booking which didn't go to plan ( but no big deal ) and the next day we had a complimentary bottle of wine. One minor grumble was the temperature of our room at night - too hot, but this was easily remedied by opening the door at night. One day I hope to be back ....
hello, i spend my life in hotels, probably in the range of 5.000 nights in the past 30 years. i stay in all kinds of places from 1* to 5*. i make very few comments on tripadvisor (10 max in the past years). we stayed 4 nights with my son early feb this year. everything was perfect. the hotel itself is gorgeous. a true palace. luxury without show off. the spa, pool and saunas are wow! but above all, the service was impeccable and, please, believe me, i am not an easy guest. personnel is quite young (which is peasant) but they certainly know how to make guests feel good. i visited val thorens and 3 vallées too few times lately. so, i plan to come to the spot again for its endless runs and scenery. i will make everything possible to stay at altapura. keep up the good job!
"Couldn't ask for more"
The staff always had a smile and greeted you no matter what! everyone was so friendly. The rooms were lovely and modern, loads of cool stuff added into the rooms like a TV and an apple TV. Although the Apple TV didn't work all the time for us. The location of the hotel is fantastic! A great ski in ski out, with the most amazing ski hire equipment, some of the best I have ever got! Not to mention the food at the Buffet was really top quality, this hotel has literally everything you need for a ski holiday. Great location, good gym facilities, a spa area for after skiing and relaxing. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Top class
"Difficult to fault"
Fantastic hotel.Staff incredibly friendly and attentive.Rooms, food and facilities excellent.Hotel minibus was quickly available at any time to take us to and from upper village. The description of the main restaurant as a "buffet" doesn't really do it justice since the fish and choice of 3 meat joints are freshly cooked to your specification.Les Enfants Terrible bistrot was also excellent.Lovely indoor/outdoor pool and spa.The prices were generally what one would expect from a 5 star hotel but even allowing for the present poor exchange rate the price for a gin and tonic or a whisky seemed a bit steep.
"Wonderful Stay in 5-Star Surroundings"
We needed a hotel with good facilities (fitness centre, other amenities) for a non-skier in the party, plus ski-in ski-out capability for the skiers. Altapura has that and more. We were greeted on our arrival and given an upgrade to a junior suite, which was great. The rooms are modern, spacious, and ours had an excellent view of the mountains. There is a good fitness room (one of the best I have seen in a ski resort hotel), a swimming pool (bit of a disappointment as it's really just a small, circular bathing pool - you can't do any proper swimming in it), saunas, hammam and ice room (cool). The hotel is well set-out so you don't feel like you're in lifts all the time to get anywhere. The buffet was excellent, as were the breakfasts. There are two other restaurants - we went to the a la carte restaurant and it was very good, with a wide selection of fish which was surprisingly fresh (as you're a long way up from the sea). If you want to go out, they have a very good shuttle service (you'll need it, it's a longish way from anywhere in VT really). The ski hire shop is very good, as is the boot room. Only criticisms are - the drinks in the bar are ridiculously expensive (thnaks for the warning, other reviewers, it was true) and the saunas are not hot enough. Other than that, we are already looking forward to returning next year.
