"A Royal Rip-off"
When I arrived at the Alvear Art Hotel around 1pm on a weekday, an American tourist was just departing and insulting the front desk staff for their less than stellar service. In her case, finding a hotel taxi for the airport that would accept a credit card. That should have been a warning sign. Portenhos, or inhabitants of Buenos Aires, can be convivial and gracious in their homes but a dour and sour bunch when engaged in work, particularly service work, which goes against their arrogant grain. Now, when you're paying almost $400/night in what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel in South America, you have expectations not of good service but of amazing service. Good luck with that! My room wasnt ready so they offered an upgrade. I turned it down saying that time was important, and I just wanted the standard room I had booked. They then admitted they didn't have any rooms available at the time. I called a friend who lived nearby and she gave me access to her apt through the doorman, which allowed me to shower and run to an appt. I then made it back to the hotel to see if the room was ready (note: they neglected to text me to let me know when the room would be ready, as I had requested). So at 3:30 pm I entered the room. The bellboy was trying to recite the many amenities of the hotel when I looked out my room window, and was regaled with the best sight in the city of apartment building air conditioners. Many of the downtown buildings are quite old and dont have central air, you see. So, here we are in an interior room facing dilapidated buildings with A/C units hanging from windows and the like. In fact, the building right across from me was apparently under renovations, and the work crew in one of the floors was having a late lunch. They were having a grand time and in fact waved at me. All of this is happening in an environment in which the staff could care less about its clients and had no compunctions about showing it. In a chat with a taxi driver later in the day, I found out that the hotel routinely adds 25% to all hotel taxis headed toward the airport. So, I negotiated directly with the cab driver for an early pick up the next morning. I could go on and on, but decided that these folks weren't going to ruin my short stay. Let me just finish by saying that if you have $400 to burn, then do so by staying at a nearby 3 star hotel for $100, and use the remaining $300 to splurge on the finest meal in town and copious wine. Because the Alvear Art Hotel is simply a royal rip-off.
Very professional and good service. The rooms are standard modern. Service is very good, so is food expecially the traditional local food. Situated right in the center it is very nice and confortable expecially for business. We loved the pool that has a breathtaking view over the city
"Sleek, stylish, modern and comfortable; Top Service"
The hotel met and surpassed all of my expectations. Check-in was smooth, and they were able to offer me a room before 12, which was also lucky. The front desk personnel gave me advice regarding safety tips for touring BA. The room, as well as the bathroom were both spacious and well appointed. Very comfortable bed, great shower and quiet accomodations. Breakfast, which was included in the rate, was excellent. Fresh quality ingredients, and personalized service. Everything about the hotel stay was excellent! Recommend to anyone without any reservations.
"Excellent staff, terrific breakfast, very good facilities"
This would be an excellent business hotel. We stayed here on a vacation, and found it to be very comfortable and modern, with good facilities. We enjoyed the fitness center/pool, and the expansive breakfast buffet. The best feature, though, was the front desk staff, who helped us with all kinds of reservations and advice.
You know when there is nothing you complain about and everything moves as you expected.....that is almost perfection. You do not notice the people behind the scenes and that suggests operational excellence. Really really nice place. Good mix between relaxed and high end and surely in the top 25%
