"Outstanding Service at Good Hotel"
As others have stated, Amerian Portal is a little tired. But for me it was a perfect place to come back to after trekking through Iguazzu. The beds were comfortable, bathrobes available in the room, and bathrooms had all you needed including the little bottles of hair conditioner, shampoo, lotion, etc. It was February and the ac worked and worked really well!! The breakfast buffet included everything you could want, including ham, cheese, yogurt, pastries, chipas, sausages and eggs. I also had dinner and was very pleased with my mushroom risotto. I had a massage and it was outstanding. The women at the spa mostly spoke Spanish (duh) and again had to use my Spanish and their English to get the proper service. Over-all it was a hoot for me and a way to learn and for all of us to laugh!! If this is intimidating, get an app that will help you translate or contact the receptionist. This alone gives you an idea of the staff, I could never say enough great things. Rocia, I believe was her name was an angel when I had a mishap with my eye and a bad tour guide (I hope I got her name right and there were two women with the same name). She translated when I needed a doctor as google translator was not good at that moment. The staff in the restaurant helped me to continue to learn my Spanish and wish I got the waiter's name...he was so sweet. He spoke perfect English, but because I was trying to learn he was helping me. My philosophy is go to a country with an open mind/heart. Learn their language, customs, etc and we are a big world, and the people make the place. Would visit Amerian again.
"Comfortable, well located"
The Amerian was comfortable, a welcome drink of local origin was offered the first night by the infinity pool. The rooms were a little shabby and not too clean in spots, but nothing offputting. The lobby is huge and open and a good place to meet before dinner in the restaurant or a trip to the bar. The food was good, though not elaborate--huge portions of chicken or steak, very fresh tasting vegetables. When you leave the hotel, turn right to go to tres fronteras a small park where you can see three countries and the confluence of two rivers. There are shops there and local sidewalk vendors as well. Turn left from the hotel to go into town. You'll see locals going about their business, beaucoup souvenir shops, find plenty of restaurants. It is a safe area and three women went out about 8:30 in search of souvenirs, returning to the hotel about 10 pm, never feeling threatened. However, there are few street lights and very uneven paving, so watch your step. We listened to a local band practice for Carnival and practiced saying no thank you to many children who brought items from their parents shops or blankets for the tourists to buy.
Room was adequate but WiFi poor - kept cutting out. Breakfast was OK but while the dinner portions were large, the quality wasn' t good. I emailed and face book messaged them about three weeks before we arrived for the likely cost of at a taxi from the airport but did not receive any reply.
The Amerian Hotel is in need of a good face lift in the rooms. I had a room at the back with a good view of the Parana river ad the swimming pool. Bathrobes were available so a trip down to the pool seemed right. The pool is nice but not very deep with many different levels to hit your feet against. The sauna was not working as it should I think so just lay in the sun which was so welcome and warm after touring Patagonia. Foods was good included breakfast.
"amazing view of the three frontiers, good service"
this hotel is located overlooking the point where the three frontiers meet ( Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina ) and it has a priviledge location, it has a hot tub, a great pool that connects with another one, very quiet, their breakfast buffet is superb, their food for dinner or lunch is excellent too, they are well located, not too far from the park where the Iguazu falls are located, only issue we had was that our room had a very bad smell, which we reported but it didnt went away even after keeping window openned, but we had an amazing view since we were placed in the 4th floor so we had the view of the Parana river, but overall it was a great experience
