"Amerian Portal del Iguazu a very pleasant stay"
Went with my wife to visit the Iguazu Falls, stayed at the Amerian Portal del Iguazu, Misiones Province in Argentina. Excellent hotel (our first experience was in Carlos Paz, Cordoba Province in Argentina 2 years ago. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly, excellent food, great breakfast, marvelous pool area, it couldn't better.
"Well appointed, though contrast with the local town is stark"
We stayed here overnight on a two-day trip to Iguazu (in Argentina). The hotel is well appointed and the staff spoke good English. We are city types so two days in Iguazu was more than enough for us - the place is in the middle of the jungle after all. The hotel itself is close to the breathtaking scene across the three frontiers....about 5 mins walk. The hotel arranged a transfer from the airport for $ARS350 which we thought was reasonable. The airport is a good half hour drive away and this is about the last hotel you come to. Given this was an expensive hotel, it loses points big time for the WiFi - there was none. We were told by an apologetic receptionist that it hadn't been working for a couple of days and that it was provided from Brazil so it was more difficult to get repairs done; however she said when it was provided previously by Argentina it was much worse! The staff were however very helpful in trying to sort out an administrative complication with our tour that we had booked. Although the hotel was good, it (and all the others in Iguazu) are in a bit of a bubble. The town of Iguazu itself, which we passed through on the way to and from the airport and also went for a short walk to, is a bit of a dump. We were expecting the town to have reaped the economic benefit of so many visitors to the place but either it hasn't made the effort or has been passed by. Frankly, not the sort of place it's pleasant to walk through and in stark contrast to the hotel.
This hotel is well used but comfortable. Views from the rooms that back to the Iguazu River are the best. It's lovely to sit on your patio and watch the lights reflect off the water. The rooms are comfortable with large bathrooms. Free WiFi in each room and a full refrigerator. Laundry takes only 4 to 5 hours - turnaround. You will get a good nights sleep. Oh, the restaurant serves excellent BBQ steaks.
"Good access to the falls"
Nice place. A tad out of the main section of town but good sidewalks make it easy to get around. Very nice pool and the views of the sunset from the roof terrace were spectacular. From a nearby park you can see Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
"Nice location, but needs transportation"
The hotel is situated at the border of Paraguay-Brazil and Argentina, so you can walk to the plaza and see the three divisions separated by the Parana River. We came with a Gate 1 tour so we had no problems with transportation. Not sure how you go about since it looks quite rural with not much choices to eat at night so we ate at the hotel. We were also booked in a room with a river view.
