"Newly updated, very nice"
As per usual, no complaints with Marriott! Well appointed, newly updated room- Enjoyed the corner jr suite. As a platinum member there is also a service on the ground floor for 24 hr beverages and small bites to eat.
The hotel is newly renovated, and appeared very stylish. The room was clean and convenient with enough number of outlets for electronics (outlets for European, American and GB, as well as USB). The size of the room was enough for three of us to stay, even though not spacious. We reserved executive room, as I was told that regular room can accommodate only two. This arrangement gave us access to executive lounge, providing breakfast and drinks during the stay. Breakfast was very good with hot food items (sausage, scrambled egg, and boiled egg). The staff members for check-in and concierge were very kind and helpful, making check-in, check-out and arrangement of tour easy. The location of the facility was very convenient, with close access to tram. Famous museums including Rijkes, and Van Gogh were within walking distance. The place for canal cruise was just across the hotel. Bus to the airport was 500 feet away. The location for centrum (downtown) and central station was a bit distant, though. Overall, we enjoyed the stay in Marriott.
"Updated; great concierge"
Stayed here for a conference. Restaurant recommendations were spot on. Room was renovated; quite modern with clean lines. Executive lounge was often very full; they had to seat you rather than letting you find your own seat at times. I'd stay here again. Close to central Amsterdam; walking distance to many of the major sites.
"Good location but room needed decorating "
Part of the hotel had been redecorated but our room unfortunately has not and it looked dated, smelt of smoke and looked tired It was in a good location however and the staff were very helpful. Near to the shops and near to bars
"An 'older style' Marriott, but a very good one with a great staff and a great location"
The staff at this hotel was outstanding....every one friendly and everyone ready to help...plus, it was hard to believe they were this nice during the Easter period when the hotel was full and guests were making repeated requests. It was pretty amazing to see a hotel operate with this level of courtesy, friendliness and efficiency. The staff, the location and the amenities of the hotel take it from a 4* (clean, well run, good location, decent rooms) to a 5*. The rooms are currently under renovation....the finished rooms are on the upper floors. The newly renovated rooms are clean, attractive and comfortable. Yes, the predominate color scheme is grey, but that it is big step from the standard marriott beige. The rooms toward the back of the property (not facing toward central amsterdam) are a bit smaller than other rooms, but they are a decent size....especially for Amsterdam where space in hotels is a premium. The location is great.....almost dead center of the area just above the central district. A few minutes to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Goch museum and the design center. A 10-15 minute walk to the very center and the floating flower market. A 10-15 minute walk to the Anne Frank house and the tulip museum. A 5 minute walk to streets lined with restaurants. The hotel is located at the intersection of several tram lines (you can hop a tram and be at the central train station in less than 10 minutes) and bus lines, and next to the bus stop for the 157 airport express bus. One block away (exit through the main street entrance and take a left) is a resident shopping area with a nice mix of shops plus several grocery stores. There is an executive lounge located on the ground floor......it was crowded during Easter weekend, but the staff did a great job of keeping it clean and handling the crowds. The bar/restaurant is very good both in terms of food and drink offerings...plus it is very relaxed. The restaurant on the ground floor had a wide selection at reasonable prices (for Amersterdam). The rooms facing the center (the main street & the park area) are a bit larger and, if you are on an upper floor, the view across central amsterdam is unobstructed and quite nice.
