"Great hotel. Great service in the Sorels Bar Cafe"
Always love staying in this hotel. Was here for a long time and found Ly in the restaurant particularly helpful in keeping the service personal and the work tolerable. She went way out of her way to ensure I had the best experience as a traveling executive by tailoring food and drink to the way that I wanted it. Marriott is very lucky to have her!
"Average experience compared to other Marriott Hotels"
The lounge was great, it was well stocked, at least for hors d'oeuvres and dessert hours, and fully stocked fridges with all types of drinks, especially water. The staff at the concierge desk were very helpful. The front desk staff was so so. They did not recognize Marriott elite status even though they said thank you for being an elite member, and put me in a pretty crappy room overlooking construction crate with ongoing construction. Not acceptable when I would be spending 6 nights at the hotel. I asked to be moved before they then agreed to move me to a nicer room. This is unlike any Marriott experience I've had before. Elite status plus a week's stay would usually mean an upgrade without having to ask or move from room to room. Everything else was just ok. This hotel was nothing special.
We stayed two night at the start of December. The hotel is under refurbishment which they told us after we arrived. The room was under average, a little worn and had problems with temp regulation. To sleep with open window was not an issue because of the noise from the busy street outside (we did not ask to change the room). There was only one big duvet. Cleanlines was good. Service at the desk was good .. What did irritate us was that WF-FI was not included in the price and this is a 5 star hotel that atracts business people as well as families. We think that the hotel is overrated and certainly not of 5 star standard. The location is great but the room was dissapointing
"Lovely hotel, great location, questionable service"
I recently stayed here for 5 nights to attend a pharmaceutical course. The hotel was beautiful, the location was fantastic and the rooms were tasteful and clean. The breakfasts were buffet style and more than adequate with continental and cooked options available with the usual selection of juices, but all of a high quality. We ate here at lunch as part of the course, so we were treated to another buffet at lunch which offered a variety of excellent meals for all and adequate vegetarian options for myself. For the most part, I had nothing but excellent experiences with the staff. In fact, I had no bad experiences in the hotel whatsoever. BUT one of my fellow delegates did, and as I bore witness to it, it did affect my stay somewhat. My friend ordered a chicken meal from the kitchen to eat in her room late in the evening. As she ate the meal and watched the television, she thought the food began to taste a bit strange. It was then she realised that only the outer layer of the chicken was cooked; the majority of the bird was entirely raw! She had to make herself sick in order to get any raw chicken that she may have ingested back up so as to avoid being ill for the course we were on the next day that was costing our companies a large amount of money to send us on. She then immediately rang the downstairs desk. They didn't take her at all seriously, and told her that as she had finished most of the chicken (she had by no means eaten that much), that they would not refund her. They offered her a glass of brandy to make up for it, but really she wasn't happy. She told us about this incident the next day, and when we were in the lounge bar that evening she decided (with pictures on her phone) to go to the manager directly and attempt to discuss this further as she didn't believe she should be charged for the meal. She was told to wait in the bar and that the manager would be over. Eventually the manager did come over and look at the photos. She showed a little more interest, stating that she would "discuss it with her chef", but clearly no more action would realistically be taken. The manager still refused to remove the charge from her bill, telling her that as the chicken had been served, they HAD to charge for it!' That's the first time I've seen a manager of a 5* hotel unable to remove a 20 euro charge from a hotel stay costing well over 1000 euros. My friend informed the manager that this sort of under cooking could kill someone. The manager laughed with a "Let's hope not." Very funny indeed. My friend did in the end have to pay, and bearing witness to this conversation, I felt quite awkward. Had it been me in that situation, I would have have told them where to stick their raw chicken.
