We booked here in January 2017 as a place to end our stay in bali. On arrival there was no one to greet us at all (sounds petty but the other places we stayed they had people on arrival collecting out bags and greeting us). We walked up the stairs to the reception our driver and my husband took the bags out of the car. They sat on the floor (it had been raining) for some time before they were put onto a bag trolley where they sat outside (in the damp) until we asked for them to be brought up (given its meant to be 5 star I found this poor). We sat in reception for some time to complete paperwork and waiting for our room key. Finally we were shown to our room which was on the top floor. We were travelling with a small child (2 ) and a 7 year old..which we noted in our booking and thought they would take this into consideration. The room was nice enough. The glass sliding door to the balcony was easy to open for my 2 year old and the latch was broken! We immediately had them come fix it, even after fixing it the actual piece screwed to the plaster was barely screwed in and my husban had to show the person who fixed it to actually get them to fix it again. We then thought lets go exploring ... We found the gym which was barely a gym for such a large place it was disappointing. We then went looking for something for the kids' The stairs was steep there was no break away areas for the kids at all. the main pool was disappointing small and the railing overr the cliffs made me feel extremely uneasy with the kids. We went back to our room where my son slipped over due to condensation build up on the floor.....We called reception had a manger come and contemplated leaving. We were given the option to a ground floor room with a pool (with small kids and a glass door only separating them from the pool I wasnt convinced) My husband agreed it was better than the room we were in the floor wasnt as slippery and the door was far too heavy and locked properly so the kids couldnt get out. The first night we woke to our bed being extrmeley damp. We tried playing with the room temp to see if that changed but no. The breakfast area gave beautiful views but that was about it. The airconditionng vents were missing covers you could see the insulation with mould on it and it was dripping water on to the floor. Food options were definitely lacking compare to places we had stayed. Every time we gave people our room number every staff member mentioned oh you moved rooms ' Which made us feel bad for complaining about what had happened. We didnt eat in any of the restaurants or use the spa services for a couple of reasons 1) the pricing of the spa was equivalent if not more than what I could get in Australia 2) they had no nanny service (despite advertising they do). The food we did order in the room was average and the prices again were on par with australia. We ate at a cafe down the road on the last night and the food was amazing the service fabulous and priced for bali. I sent some washing to be done the guy put our small numberr of items into a bag and gave me a docket and left. On leaving our receipt stated our washing was $90 Australian ! This shocked me as the last place we had styaed did 2 loads of washing and charged up $30 Australian. I queried the receptionist she told me that they charge per item! So all my 2 year old socks and our undies cost us for each item!!!!!! I told her the guy never explained that to me and she didn't seem phased and made out like I should have known to ask' A number of times I couldnt work out why our clothes were so damp in our room and then realised on the last night the aircon in our room had been leaving moisture all over our clothes so our whole suticases of clothes had been getting damp. When we returned home anything in our suitcases clean or not had to be washed they stunk! The place needs some serious work done to it its dated. The price isn't reflective of what you get. There was hardly anyone staying there yet service seemed to be slow.
The view was amazing, the ambient was perfect... and we also had a photograph as a compliment... everything was totally perfect.. and sure we had the best moment at Anantara Uluwatu Resort & spa.. love it!
"Stayed 1 night and cost us more than the entire trip"
we decided to stay here because of the ranking but very dissapointed with our stay, this kind of hotel can be found anywhere else in the world and we were looking for unique places to stay after our second time in Bali
"Peaceful and relaxing."
This hotel is tucked away in a quieter part of Bali. The views of the ocean are spectacular in parts of the hotel and the general vibe is restful and chilled. The ocean view room we were in was large and the Bose sound system was a nice touch. The furnishing was a tad tired but the room was comfortable on the whole. The outdoor jacuzzi should be fun for couples as it offers a nice view of the ocean. Service was generally attentive and friendly. Food at the restaurants 360 and Sea Fire Salt was very good too. All in all a nice resort for couple's breaks and to get away from the stress of city life.
Wonderful place with incredible views The staff are its strength though as they are amazing from the gardeners and room attendentsvto the staff in reception and the restaurants... Second to none BUT too many stairs and very difficult to access pool area due to numbers of steps if staying in main building
