"Adults-Only Anantara Veli Exceeded Expectations! Top Service, Villas, Sports, Location!"
In trying to select a hotel/location for our Babymoon and first Maldives visit, we scrutinized countless beautiful resorts across endless atolls and islands and were immediately lost amidst so many luxurious options. The pressure was on, this was the Maldives, the legend of perfect, and we might never come back! Thankfully, with great relief, the Anantara Veli was the perfect choice! Highly Recommend!!! 6 Reasons Why We Chose - Anantara Veli: 1. Adults-only island (rare in Maldives) is great for couples seeking peaceful romance. (note: neighboring island Anantara Dhigu is for families) 2. Variety: Looking at other nice top Maldives hotels, we noticed on what remarkably small islands some sit; we respected this is part of the idea of the Maldives, but we reflected that we personally might also enjoy stretching our legs and gently exploring a little more while in tropical paradise. Anantara Veli, as part of a small cluster of several Anantara islands around a wide shallow lagoon, enables easy and immediate variety of experience, beaches, pools, dining, sports, movement across all three islands by free 3min pontoon boat, or kayak, or snorkel, or swim. This was smart choice, as we appreciated dining on different islands by day or night on a whim, kayaking to nearby nearly deserted "PicNic island" for the afternoon, and riding free bikes on sandy paths around Dhigu island, the variety delivered a freeing experience. 3. Easy Access: Only 35min speedboat from Male Int'l Airport, we had twice been recommended by friends to avoid an additional expensive and time-delaying seaplane transfer to the many other wonderful but far-flung islands, and instead enjoy the easy boat access to so many top resorts closer to Male Int'l Airport. This was a successful decision. At Male Airport, we got directly into a waiting luxury cabin-cruiser power yacht, staffed by 4-5 uniformed friendly hotel staff transporting only 2 couples, providing us ice-cold clean face towels and cold bottles of Anantara water. 4. Surfing: One of the best resorts for easy access to great surfing immediately surrounding the islands and nearby neighbor islands, from beginner to pro levels, with professional surf school lessons available. 5. Anantara 5-Star Quality: Having previously visited 3 Anantara hotels in Abu Dhabi (Desert Islands and Eastern Mangroves) and Dubai (The Palm), we had full confidence in Anantara's delivery of 5-star luxury in areas of Service, Rooms, and Food. 6. Activities: In addition to enjoying the adventurous surfing, daily scuba dive missions became addictively easy and rewarding, and though not an early riser, I couldn't help but start each day with the free morning Yoga sessions overlooking the peeling ocean waves of the Indian Ocean. Ridings cruiser bikes on the sandy paths of nearby Dhigu island was relaxing. Snorkling directly off our water villa across the lagoon and from our beach to a small deserted sandy islet 50 meters away in center of lagoon. Boules/Bocci sand court available, as well as volleyball. Service Team: Your kindness and thoughtfulness continued to surprise and impress us throughout our wonderful stay on your island. Your effort and work is greatly appreciated! Special Thanks: Mari as Scuba Instructor, across several dives, her commitment to always focusing her calm attention on me while underwater made me very comfortable in progressing my skills. Also, to Antoine and Marta as dive instructors. Josh as Surf Instructor whose relaxed but focused demeanor made for an enjoyable and safe first experience surfing a reef break. Prashrit in Front Office for enabling top-class experience. Mikael at Reception for his kindness. Jimmy in Housekeeping for his attentive help and an always-perfect room. Joe waiter at Thai restaurant for his friendly attentive service.
Went here with the family in summer. Perfect escape, Worth the price point. Great food variety. Beautiful villas. Good snorkelling. Staff go above and beyond. No flaws or complaints with this one, it will not disappoint.
Wow. Just wow. First of all, I want to start out by mentioning that this review may be lengthy but its worth the read. I also want to preface by saying that we are from USA (Texas), which is a very long way from the Maldives - it took us two days to get there, two days to return. Having the Maldives sit on our bucket lists for so long, we took a chance on Anantara Veli to ring in 2017. We honestly hadn't ever heard of Anantara, but I feel it necessary to mention that when we travel, our usual choices are One & Only, Aman, Rosewood, Ritz, St. Regis, etc. - I mention this only to parallel our experience with the caliber, so take it as you may. We had the bar set high. Was it worth the time and money, as well the gamble on an entirely new resort company' ABSOLUTELY. Read on, please. Obviously, Maldives in itself is something very special. It's a place everyone puts on their bucket list at one point or another I'm sure. What a lot of people may not realize is that there are 26 islands (atolls), so your selection is spread out and can vary from place to place. Yes there is a One & Only, yes there is a Four Seasons, etc. Again, we took a shot and chose something different. And bravo to our travel agent! Here we go: SERVICE/STAFF: I find this to be the most important because you can be in the world's most magical place, but if the service/staff is bad, your experience is hindered. The service and staff at Anantara (at both Veli and Dhigu) - words cannot describe how fabulous and lovely this category is. They nailed it! Everyone treats you like you are a part of their family! And, being from Texas, words can't express what this means to us - it's how we like to treat people (hospitality is key), so of course we felt right at 'home.' Everyone is very welcoming, attentive and friendly without being intrusive or annoying. From the minute you pull up in the boat from Male (where you fly into), you realize - you aren't just another client checking in; you are 'home' for however long you are on the island. Their front staff is there dancing with drums, but not in an annoying way. Moreover, they know you've been traveling for hours and hours (or you could see it in our faces, ha) so everyone is so gentle - nothing 'in your face' which drives me crazy. Our deluxe over-water-with-pool bungalow came with 24/7 access to our 'resort assistant' with a cell phone dedicated to him whenever we needed anything. Maybe they offer this to the other bungalows - regardless, it's fantastic. They give you the personalized mobile, which is a very convenient, appreciative and useful amenity especially since you can jump from island to island (another perk of staying at Anantara!), and need things that aren't right at your fingertips at that very moment. We carried the little phone everywhere - it was our 'genie in a bottle.' FOOD: Delicious! You can opt in their program where breakfasts and dinners are included (aside from alcohol), which we did. I can't stand the word 'all-inclusive' or the like - it reminds me of a bad college frat party vacation or something along the lines of a Carnival cruise line vacation. But this is far from that so don't take it that way - they offer it out of convenience for you, not cuisine level. They had many restaurants to choose from, all delectable. Plus, I'm severely (deathly) allergic to peanuts, and it was almost as if all of Anantara had my face plastered in their many kitchens because they were beyond careful with me. Our travel agent gave them the heads-up, and they took it very seriously. It made me feel so safe and worry-free, and my partner J felt at ease as well. Great food, awesome wine lists, top shelf liquor, etc. SPA: The true meaning of what it should be - relaxation for your mind, body and spirit. Dr. Avinash Tiwari manages the spa at Veli...I could talk to him all day and pick his brain. He is very smart, in tune with the human body and knows his area of expertise very well. His entire staff is finely curated and fantastic. No noisy gyms next door, no industrial equipment - you are there for the organic, genuine meaning of relaxation and that is exactly what you get. Pure bliss. Do not miss the spa!! ACTIVITIES: We came here to disconnect and relax, as our lives are hectic in America and it's go-go-go all the time. But they do have a private island where you can have the best snorkeling - don't miss it! They take you, it's easy, you don't have to stay long and it's gorgeous. That's really about all we did by choice. There are a million other things to do - we just chose to be low-key. OTHER: I feel it is my duty (on behalf of myself and my partner mister J) to call out some special friends at Anantara, and if any are excluded its only because my mind escapes - every single person there cares about you and your experience. But, if you can snag the following unforgettable people, please ask for them! Mohair - Our 'genie in a bottle' friend/assistant/magic-maker! I hope I'm not spelling this gentleman's name wrong, but this awesome man was our "go-to" the entire time. We called him for everything (spa, food, activities, events, etc). What a friendly, helpful soul. J and I spent New Year's at the party the island had (so much fun), and Mohair took the time to come find us, give us a hug and wish us a happy new year when he easily could have been in bed. Ask for him - trust me. He's one of the reasons I cried when we left - he's precious and goes above and beyond expectations. Anantara found a great one with Mohair. Coetzer Deysel - general manager of Anantara Maldives. Handsome, fun, smart, attentive and runs a very smooth operation. You can obviously see how his staff respects him and why there isn't much turnover at this resort. You'll meet him - he's awesome and everywhere! He looks you straight in the eye and makes you feel like you're at his personal island as a VIP. Claudio - food and beverage director, and Firaq Adam - food and beverage manager. Incredibly talented, personable men that have a wonderful work repertoire. Not many can get Michelin Star-rated chefs to come cook for 30 people two nights in a row on a private beach, which is what they made happen for a handful of us - they do this often, so definitely do this if available at the time. It's worth it. Miss Era and Mister Dome (I hope I'm not spelling these wrong either!) - our INCREDIBLE masseuses throughout our stay. My partner had Miss Era and I had Dome, who is also the yoga instructor. Kind, professional, works of wonder - both of our bodies felt completely changed in the best way possible. We booked bespoke massages every other day so they tended to our bodies' needs. Amazing experience. Book them if you can. Jully - you will see her smiling, adoring, friendly face at any of the resorts' restaurants. She is a ball of energy and has the upmost respect for everyone with wonderful manners to match. You feel like you've known her for years.... Again, the review is long, but its necessary because this place was magic. It touched a part of our souls to the point of tears when leaving. Hopefully our return is sooner than later, as it felt like a part of me heart is still there. After all, 'wherever you go, go with all your heart.' And that's what we did.... XOXO Miss Mary (Lainie) and Mister J
"Best stay ever"
It has been our first time in the Maldives, with our couple of best friends, from Portugal, a country with the best beaches / sea in the World; we are astonished with the Maldives (a paradise on Earth) and with Anantara´s quality; ambiance, facilities, staff made us the four Maldiva's best fans! The only negative remark is the price of non fresh items: if for the fresh products we do understand high prices, in non fresh ones it's quite exaggerated to have prices more than 500% the average price in other five stars hotels. Also water activities are out of price. Nervertheless, go there! We will return!
