"Relaxation, Beautiful Beaches, Wonderful Service and Amazing Food and Drink!"
This was my 3rd trip to the Maldives and I have to say that I was mightily impressed by many aspects of our visit to Angsana Velavaru. Our package was for 9 nights in a Beachfront VIlla on All Inclusive Basis. Upon arrival at Male we were promptly greeted by a member of staff from Angsana and promptly whisked off to the Angsana lounge at the domestic terminal. Facilities are great there with showers, drinks and cold handtowels to freshen up after a long flight from the UK. The wait for the seaplane was only 30mins and we were in resort after a 1hr journey (including stop at a seperate island). Angsana Velavaru has 2 distinct and very seperate parts of the resort - the land based side and the in-ocean villas. The speedboat pick up is outside of the in-ocean villas and going past them gives you a glimpse into how the other half live with private pool and steps into the crystal clear waters. Although we didn't stay in the in-ocean villas we did eat at the restaurant which was fantastic and I will go into more detail later. The Beachfront properties (some with small pools) were spread all around the island and everywhere you walked there seemed to be no-one around even though the occupancy was 90% when we were there. The rooms themselves were just big enough and the beds face the beach with privacy in the form of bushes either side of the other accommodations. Each property has 2 sun loungers on the beach and then it's only a few metres to the warm, crystal clear waters! There is also a small decking area with a table and chairs attached to the room facing the beach should you want some shade. A dividing wall keeps the bed one side of the room and the sink and wardrobe the other side. This use of space was key and felt like we had a decent amount of room. Sliding back doors opened out to the back where there was an outdoor shower and outdoor space. If I'm being hyper critical this seemed a little like a waste of space and could have been used better with say a jacuzzi area or main room extension. The rooms also have a minibar (replenished every day for soft drinks and every 3 days for alcoholic drinks) and spirits cabinet. The rooms were cleaned regularly and to a very high standard. We were very impressed by the beautiful bed decoration upon checking in to herald our anniversary :) The resort itself is small and very natural. It only takes around 10-15 mins to walk around the island and the beach around rooms 140 - 120 is superb. The other side of the island does have a lack of sand in some areas, but still has good privacy and water access. Being on All Inclusive meant that we could eat in any of the restaurants - The main restaurant served buffet food for breakfast, lunch and dinner whereas the Kuredhi Bar served a la carte lunches and dinners (Starter, Main and Dessert) and the Azzuro Restaurant and Bar (situated amongst the in-ocean villas) served a la carte dinner. Many of the guests were on HB or FB and were restricted to eating at the buffet restaurant which was nice, but geared more towards Chinese guests. We tended to make the most of being on all inclusive and regularly ate at the Kuredhi Bar where the menu was extensive and the setting very peaceful and romantic. I have to say that the food here was exceptional and I was able to try dishes like whole lobster, sirloin steaks, wagyu burgers etc that I hadn't had at home before. There was also a massive drinks menu and the mocktails and fruit juices were incredible. The Funa Restaurant was under renovation while we were there, but we did have access to in room dining included in the all inclusive package and the Azzuro restaurant was available even though we were staying on the land side. Every trip on the almost hourly boat trip to Azzuro felt like we were going somewhere very special and that proved to be the case. The quality of food here was simply superb and we felt like royalty for our 9 days. The service throughout the resort is exceptional. Reception staff eager to help and always smiling. The cleaners did a great job, the watersports/dive staff were really helpful and the bar/restaurant staff were first class. Special mention to Adil and Monday who were always on hand and provided exceptional service throughout. The island is very natural, but I wasn't bitten by mossies once, which is the first time that has ever happened to me. You will hear bird sound, which again is rare on the resort islands in the Maldives. There is an aviary here where lovebirds and other colourful birds hang out which is a lovely touch. You will see geckos and lizards while walking around and there were some juvenile turtles about to be transferred to the larger Angsana to continue their journey towards being released into the ocean. The Marine centre girls were great to talk to and very enthusiastic about their jobs. The water outside the beachfront properties was teaming with a variety of fish life, but the corals was quite damaged in the lagoon from el nino. We'd often see baby black tip sharks and baby stingrays in the shallows as well as the much bigger stingrays at 6pm feeding time from the jetty, The best snorkeling is where the in ocean villas are situated and there is a daily trip there at 11.30 - 1 and this is a must! The snorkeling is superb here and you will hopefully see one of the resident turtles while moving along with a gentle drift along the coral wall. The coral here is in much better condition and a real highlight of our day. Again the staff on these trips were great and very patient with many who were weak swimmers. My wife was very keen to visit the spa and the experience here was again superb. The spa menu has plenty of options and although quite expensive we were able to get a 30% discount which made it a bit less painful. It was worth every penny though, the masseuses were brilliant and the lady in reception was really helpful and happy. We really didn't do much else either than have a go at water ski-ing, which I was horrendous at, but I know that All Inclusive guests do get access to all motorised watersports once per day (apart from jet ski) and all non motorised watersports. It was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye, but having enjoyed our stay so much we hope to come back one day. Thank you all at Angsana for being brilliant and making our anniversary so special.
It is with a sad and heavy heart that I write this review, as this is our last night here, at the Angsana Velavaru. I don't know how to put into words how special this place is. First off, the video on their website is spot on. This place is truly as good as advertised. Not only is the resort gorgeous, but the staff have made it an unforgettable holiday for us. We had some "miscommunication/ misinterpretation" from our advertised special with our travel agent, but managers Riyaz and Amjad worked everything out for us. We appreciate all their work on accommodating us. They also communicated with our travel agent to add an extra day at our prearranged rate, as we arrived at the resort a day early. We stayed in a beach jetted tub villa for our first four days. Our villa was 114 and it is ideally located just a short walk from the bar, restaurant, reception, spa and dive center. We had a nice large sandy area just outside our villa. We pulled our lounge chairs out a little to get a better view of the beach and in-ocean villas across the water. We also stayed four nights at a sunset in-ocean villa, #323. Again, the pictures don't lie, it's beautiful! It's great to have your own pool and access to ocean which is just a few steps down from your deck. I'm really glad we experienced the in-ocean villa, as it is truly breathtaking, but I think we'd be just fine staying on the island in a beach villa. The only reason I say this is because you don't have the worry of catching the boat to get to the island. Again, both villas were great, we have no complaints. We went to the spa twice. The first time we did the "dreams" package and it was very relaxing. We went a second time and I experienced the "Top to Toe", which was heavenly!!!! My husband did an aloe wrap and 60 minute massage. I highly recommend visiting! Nang helped to set up our appointments and suggested the perfect options for us. She is a special lady with a big heart. When she found out my husband wasn't feeling well, she made him some hot ginger tea and gave him some extra to take to our room. Plang was my therapist and I, unfortunately, can't remember the name of my husbands therapist. Both were fantastic. We ate most of our dinners in the Kuredi bar. It is a la carte here (as our plan only included breakfast). We found the food here to be really good!! There wasn't a meal we didn't like. Some of our repeat orders included the Greek salad and pasta dishes. We are so grateful for the superior hospitality from Siby, Mandoo, Adil and Biben. They made us feel like friends instantly, and it is for this reason that we kept eating on the island. The in-ocean restaurant was good and Ramiz served us there. The front desk staff was also very helpful, including locating my missing shoe! A special thanks to Nura, Crystal, Cathy and Dhahu. I can't forget Vidah, at the airport lounge, she was lovely. We will miss this beautiful island and the wonderful people who made our stay here so enjoyable. We rarely visit the same place twice, but this is definitely a place we hope to return to! "Second Visit Amazing Yet Again"
This was our second visit to Angsana Velavaru, we traveled with our 3 adult children as we were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Our arrival and check in at the sea plane lounge for the resort was flawless, as the flight to the resort was full we were asked if some of our bags could go on a later flight, that was not an issue as all the other couples on the plane were on their honey moon and there bags were more important than ours. ( our bags arrived a couple of hours later ) Upon arrival at the resort it was great to see familiar faces and be welcomed back so warmly. All the staff across the resort were always smiling and always said hello and were more than help full with any requests. As with our last stay the villa was great (361 ) and comfortably slept 5 adults. You can snorkel from the steps off the bottom of the salsa deck straight thru the small coral channel to the edge of the reef and see vast arrays of sea life ( only if you are a confident swimmer ) we were lucky enough to have a pod of dolphins swim past. The food at all the various areas of the resort is good, with various selections available. We were treated to a sunset cruise around the island, many thanks to all the staff that helped in this especially the guys on the boat, they were terrific. And again we were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins. The sunset cruise is highly recommended as it is an amazing site the sunset from the boat. My only complaint about the time on the island was not the rooms, food, or any of the staff they are all amazing, it is rude guests. When you sit outside the bar and would like another drink or some more food don't wave your hands around and yell out, have some manners and walk up and ask nicely, when other people are waiting to be seated for breakfast or dinner don't push past like there is no tomorrow. Yes i know you have paid good money for your holiday, and the staff are there to serve you, but the staff are all great and need to be shown some manners at all times. We will definitely be back to stay at this great resort. David
We stayed at the resort for one week in late September. The staff were so helpful and friendly, our room was next to quite noisy neighbours so we had an upgrade to a villa with a pool as we were inconvenienced. The food was great, the views were amazing, I definitely recommend staying at Angsana.
