"Excellent Hotel for visiting Eastern Crete"
We spent 2 weeks here over Easter 2017, just a sight-seeing type holiday. The Elounda Village is an excellent hotel and firmly deserves its Thomson 5-star rating. The hotel is essentially in two sections: the main block that has conventional guest rooms on corridors, and the bungalows that have individual units for guests. We were in the main block. Our room was very large (ceilings 3m high took a bit of getting used to), well decorated, clean, well maintained and with good facilities. There is a safe/strong box in the room (f.o.c.) as well as minibar/fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Our bathroom area had a lovely walk-in shower and separate toilet. We also had a patio with chairs, table and a hammock. The hotel staff are helpful and keen to impress. When we arrived the weather was cool; one mention to the reception desk and an engineer arrived quickly to turn our air-con into heating mode. We thought an extra easy chair would be nice; one call to reception and a chair speedily arrived. Each day the room was 'made up' and cleaned immaculately. You have to place a card on the bed otherwise you get clean bedding every day - they clearly care about the environment (or the cost of washing). The restaurant is attractive and the food, for me, is the best part of the experience. The food is buffet-style and there is a huge choice for each meal. The food is imaginative and tasty. There is a mixture of Greek dishes and international ones. I gained 3kg during our stay. There is ONE problem with the restaurant; the price of a bottle of wine. The wine list contains some very good wines, both local and international. The prices are ridiculously high. The cheapest bottle is just under 20 euros. There is very little at this price level. The AVERAGE bottle is around 50 euros. There are lots of bottles in excess of 100 euros. In a tourist hotel, even with five stars, you cannot charge this for wine. The result of this was that in a restaurant of over 50 tables, maybe just 2 or 3 tables had a bottle of wine on them. Make the average price 20 to 25 euros and every table would have a bottle on it. Somebody has misjudged the pricing badly. Rant over. Other facilities like sun lounging and swimming were more than well catered for and there is diving and boat-hire on site. The local town is Elounda but the walk from the hotel is at least half an hour. Best to hire a car or use a taxi. We would use this hotel again if visiting this part of Crete.
"FIRST CLASS SERVICE ,"
This hotel is first class ,please ignore any bad reviews ,this is a hotel to die for , I have been here 7 times ,and it does seem to get better each time I go there,I have stayed half board and all inclusive,if you can afford the all inclusive ,please do it will save you a lot of money
Great place, good ambience. Amazing food and service. Friendly and helpful staff. The spa treatments are reasonably priced and we 4 treatments that left us rejuvenated. The only drawback is that the evening activities are lacking, so an early night is quite the only option if you don't want to sit at the bar.
"Excellent food,Location "
We spent two weeks here in October 2016. The location is great but isolated from main towns. There are Taxis available by booking at reception. The food and staff were 5 star and the location also. The room was European 3 star and the most annoying thing was little things like coffee and milk were not replaced on a daily basis. The drinks in the Bar are Central European prices so it's expensive. There is a shop in the hotel and if you fancy a walk there is a small shop at the top of the hill. We would have gone back here but the return flight from the Heraklion airport was horrific. For a location that's economy is based on tourism the Airport is ran like something from the Third World and all my distressing at the Sensimar was washed away on the return. So thanks to the Sensimar but your Airport has this year sent us elsewhere.
My wife and I stayed here at the end of May 2016 ,all the staff were excellent the hotel is spotless , we stayed all inclusive and it's the best ever excellent food and branded drinks no cheap rubbish. I have traveled extensively and have never gone back to the same place but I have just booked for my wife and myself to return on 25th of May for 10 nights and I can't wait ,if you are looking for a great location great food and lovely staff this is the place .
