I spent in this hotel one night with my friend. First, a short story with how I decided to stay at this hotel. I used to stay at another hotel of ARCOTEL chain and collected nights on they client loyalty program (good night pass). So I was eligible to stay in a comfort room for one night at any of ARCOTEL hotels. I had to book via hotel I got a good night pass from. This was not a problem though. I called the reservation and said that I would love to stay in John F in Berlin. In a few hours I had a confirmation from the John F about my reservation. Once we arrived we were welcomed by a nice staff. Check in was done very fast and we got into the room. First impression - a spacious room, good beds, a clean bathroom. We slept very well - the hotel is quiet. On the next day we had a breakfast - standard European buffet with everything one might need for a breakfast. As of location - all the times we took a cab. But we also walked around once. The Berliner Dom and the Museumsinsel is very close to the hotel. There is also a a U Bahn station. All in one - that was a right choice to stay at this hotel.
"Trip to Berlin"
We booked a double room and this was very spacious however, the bed was not a double mattress it was two singles pushed together. I went to the reception desk to ask about this and got told very sternly that this was "the German way" and they didn't have American beds here. She did not offer an apology and was quite rude to me at the time which I did not think was an appropriate response, as I was a paying guest. However, the hotel was in a great location and it was great to be able to use the sauna and steam room after a cold day outside exploring the city. The staff also leave apples in your room everyday which I thought was a lovely touch! All in all a good hotel in a great location just a shame that one of the staff members was so rude.
"Family visit to Berlin with young grandchildren"
The hotel is perfectly situated close to the Museum Island and within walking distance ( or scooting distance in the case of the four year old ) of all the main attractions of the city. We have just spent two nights in this hotel and would certainly stay again. We had three rooms on the fifth floor at the front of the hotel which was a great advantage. The rooms are just what you would expect in a four star hotel and have a sofa which easily converts into a bed, giving an extra bed in the room. The children loved the fact that you can chose not to have your room serviced and then the money saved would go towards looking after the bees which are on the roofs of the hotels in Hamburg and Vienna. This environmental aspect appeals greatly to us. The breakfast is very good indeed and if you book the night before you will receive a discount of a few euros. There is no charge for children. We ate out in the evenings and you will find there are good restaurants within easy walking distance if you chose to eat away from the hotel. The reception was manned by three members of staff each time we returned to the hotel who were all very pleasant. All in all a most enjoyable weekend and one which we would hope to repeat on our next visit to Berlin.
"Super Helpful Staff in This Attractive and Comfortable Hotel"
If you're a fan of Kimpton Hotels in the U.S., you'll love this hotel (and it's cheaper than most Kimptons!). It has a very similar modern design and comfortable furnishings. The staff are very accommodating. I've stayed here twice. On this most recent occasion, I came in with a reservation for one kind of room (with a big view) and decided I'd rather have a different kind (with a tub), and that was no problem. I also had a couple of odd requests during my stay (including wanting to find those vaccuumable sweater storage bags to use for my return packing -- that's what a little clothing shopping will do!). They were sometimes puzzled but always helpful and consulted with each other to figure out how to help me. I had to leave too early to attend the included breakfast on my final day, so they packed me up some to go. The rooms are clean and comfortable. My room for my first stay, a couple of years ago, had a little view of the Dom. On this occasion, I had a very quiet room on a back courtyard (be sure to ask for this if you really want quiet; it was very peaceful). Breakfast is fantastic, with some hot foods (eggs, bacon, baked beans), cold cuts, cereals (including a nice Bircher Muesli), pastries and breads, and more. The coffee is even good. (Berlin is a great coffee town!)
"Hot night in Berlin. "
Don't stay at the Arcotel John F in October because the rooms are insufferably hot. Someone from the front desk came to our room and said the air conditioner was putting out warm air due to cooler temperatures outside. What'''' Other than the unbearable heat, the room is pleasant. A big window lets in lots of light and makes the small room seem larger. The front desk staff tries very hard to be helpful and the extremely hot room was not their fault. You may want to consider a room on the lower floors because our 5th floor room windows would not open, due to safety reasons I presume. I booked the room through a tour company. We have tours scheduled tomorrow so I won't be free to try to find another property. Tomorrow night I'll stay at one of the lovely nearby cafes until they close!
