"Even below the chinese standards"
I've staid at Ariva almost every week over the last 8 months, simply because it is near the office. The hotel is poorly managed from every perspective: from the effectiveness of reception to the design of the rooms, from the breakfast to the look&feel.
"A four star property in Haidian district"
Stayed 3 nights on a business trip to beijing. Though there are very good international hotels in Beijing, the north western district of Beijing (Haidian) doesnt provide planty of good choices. Ariva hotels, although is a local chinese chain, it tries to position itself as satisfactory international hotel. I stayed in a special duplex room (bedroom in upper level) which totally gives spacious room, but the the bathroom was oddly small! Breakfast buffet mostly provides chinese foods however, one can survive with choices of non-chinese items, as well. Hotel amenities were satisfactory and I could confirm that amenities and facilities are beyond a standard 4-star hotel In summary, I guess I will choose the same hotel if I again return to the same district of Beijing.
"Poor service, bad design of apartments"
It's surprisingly bad. I have not seen such kind of designs in any hotel or apartments. The staircase to your bedroom are designs for anyone to fall easily specially kids. Beams are exactly over your head and if you are not careful u will going to hit as they are at the height less than 175. The location is bad enough to find any good restaurants near by. Restaurants in-house are closed in afternoon and making it difficult to eat things. Rooms are not well cleaned and you can have a little smell. I am blessed that I just have to stay one night. Totally not a place to stay.
Despite its western name, this hotel is managed in a Chinese way (so don't expect Western-style service). It has a loft room, so it's nice to separate the bedroom area from the rest. I like the bathrooms located upstairs and downstairs. The huge tall window offers a good view of the neighbourhood if the air quality is good enough for you to see anything. Hotel is a little old, lights are not bright enough, room decors are dated and cleanliness could be improved, such as its carpet. From memory, the wifi is rather spotty. But it's very close to Renmin University, and not too far from other universities in the district. The swimming pool and fitness center are handy if you want to get some exercise.
Loft Rooms spacious & great and are best place to stay in this hotel...one advantage very close to a subway station but quite far from the main shopping hub area of the city Beijing. I stayed there for 4 nights this June 2016......
