"Great modern hotel"
I stayed here for three nights with my boyfriend. It is a stylish, modern, clean hotel. Spread over 8 levels with a bar, restaurant, under ground parking & free wifi. We had a supreme double room, this had two double beds, TV, iron, safe & shower. The bathroom was to a great standard with black tiles throughout & a light up mirror. It is about 45 mins from the centre of Amsterdam. Ten mins walk is the Tram number 2 stop, hop on there and within half an hour you at outside Central Station. Between the hotel and the station is the museum district & the IAMSTERDAM sign. I would recommend buying a GVB travel card from the IAMSTERDAM shop opposite the station as it provides travel across trams & buses.
"Best hotel I've stayed in "
This hotel is so clean and very big! It's not convenient for travelers because it's quite far from anything fun, it might be like 20 or 30 min in the tram to the downtown but over all best breakfast buffet and best room! Great AC and good wifi connection. Staff did not tell us which way our room was but other than that it was great!
"A smile would go a long way"
Did not appreciate the general attitude of the staff. Had the feeling smiles were definitely not included in the price. We were a group of 11 people who'd booked 7 rooms in the hotel. On the first evening, we had drinks on the terrace outside and the (German) waiter was not friendly, even refusing to bring the menu over (because only one of us was asking for it). Service was slow and organised badly even though the terrace was not full at all. When ordering refills, he took the order only for the people who were asking for refills without taking the time to ask if anyone else at the table wanted anything. This resulted in him having to go back and forth several times, which - in turn - did not improve his general attitude. Same thing at the reception desk: checking in took more than 15 minutes (only one person before us) and when my colleague took a bottle of water and paid the receptionist, she was obviously annoyed by this interruption of her work and held out her hand. No smiles, no "thank you". On the first morning, at breakfast, no one asked for our room numbers and the cutlery was already on the table. On day 2, no cutlery on the table but the person who noted down our room number did not automatically give forks and knives. So you arrive, give your room number, take a plate and fill it up, go to the table and you have to go ask for cutlery. Two of the staff were obviously discussing a very serious topic, making it difficult to interrupt them to call their attention to the fact that both (!) coffee machines were not working. The room itself was ok, but when I share a room with a colleague, I do appreciate that last little bit of privacy of a non-transparant bathroom door that can be closed completely. It was a disappointing experience in general. Got the vibe that staff was there to earn their wages, not to take care of the customers, let alone "go the extra mile".
"Not in the thick of it"
Having got our passes for a lads weekend away, we chose this hotel based on its consistently good reviews and its wallet friendly tariff. It is no secret the Dutch design hotel is in the middle of nowhere. On the plus side it is easy to get to/from schiphol. The bus ride I took to the hotel upon arrival and the uber journey back after checkout were both quick and hassle free. Again, as you can see from the map this hotel is not right next door to public transport. Both tram and bus stops are a good 10min walk. Once in, the hotel is quite modern and the decor in the lobby and restaurant areas justify the “design” tag. Good place to meet and greet, The room was on the smaller side to be honest. Bed wasn't the most comfortable either. Coffee making facilities surprisingly did not have cream or milk in any form. May be an european thing, give the benefit of doubt . Room on the first floor was quite noisy and u could hear the hotel courtesy oach and other vehicles arriving at the entrance directly beneath the window. No generous supply of toiletries either in the bathroom, and the shower cubicle was quite small too. Had the chance to use the fitness room once. Took a combination of tram, bus or taxi to get to/from central amsterdam. Nothing particularly against the hotel, but given its location was it really worth staying that far out' I suppose we could return back to our families and safely claim we werent too extravagant with our stay.
Incompetent, rude staff that couldnt do their jobs properly. Reception charged me almost £200 at check in after I was told by their reservations department that the balance was fully paid. They then put us in a disabled room (neither myself or my partner are disabled) and when we tried to get the room we originally tried to book, we were told none of those rooms were available and that the only way we were getting a different room was to pay to upgrade! They then charged me for unpaid fees, which i enquired about months ago and was told there was none. So raging with this hotel and the staff, wish I'd read the negative reviews before I booked! Absolutely will not be returning and will be warning future friends and family not to attend!
