"Great location for Xmas markets, fun break in Cologne"
Stayed here for 2 nights, couple in our 30s. L'art hotel is a modern style with a young trendy clientele, friendly staff to greet you at the main desk. The location on the river was great for sightseeing, shopping and the Christmas markets. We enjoyed the walk into the centre of Cologne stopping off at a couple of markets beforehand. Taxis to the station/airport were straightforward. The room was a good size, clean, very bright and I loved the shower with the bright funky artwork. The double bed had two single duvets, typical in Germany but a bit odd for us. Things that let the hotel down, breakfast at 20 euros each for a lukewarm buffet with bad coffee. In hindsight this was a waste when we had a variety of nice places right on our doorstep. On the first day none of the toiletries were replenished and one of the wet towels was taken and not replaced so I had to request both from reception. I expected the housekeeping to check/refresh the room.
"Our regular hotel in Cologne"
Again, a great stay at the Art'otel in Cologne. Nice hotel, great breakfast, great restaurant and friendly staff. The rooms are nice and clean, beds are very comfortable. Two small points 1) Our cocktail waiters could do with a bit of training (oh - and what you list as a Black Russian cocktail - is actually a White Russian!) 2) The food in the restaurant is very good, but the options if you dont like sushi are somewhat limited. The choices could be expanded a little Regardless of these two very small points, I look forward to my next visit to this hotel!
"Let down by room service"
Lovely hotel, great rooms, great breakfast, nice staff. However, on more than one occasion our room was not cleaned until after 5pm. Told by staff that other rooms took priority because of people checking out, not good enough, we were booked in for 7days.
"A fine option"
This is a very nice place to stay, as far as friendly helpful staff, clean rooms, a lively bar and restaurant and useful computer station with internet access. It seems to be a better option for business than for travelers visiting the city, due to its location - although we had no problem walking to Heumarkt square for all the basics when needed. After hours the options are quite limited however, and the nearest food outside the restaurant is at least several blocks. On the plus side, because if its location we had the option of walking southwest away from the typical tourist area and experienced a fantastic part of Cologne. Also on the plus side, the hotel was immaculate, and every staff member spoke amazingly good English with us making it quite easy to figure out anything that came up, such as locating the nearest metro, grocery, and arranging taxi service to the airport. The breakfast was fine as far as buffets go, and very convenient if you were on a time-crunch and couldn't get towards the city center or another area that has more (and likely cheaper) breakfast options. I'd say the location is nice with it being on the river with the Shokolad factory next door and quite quiet. The nearest metro we used was about 10-12 minutes walk which was fine for our situation but again if time was an issue it would have been a bit inconvenient. We didn't mind the walk along the river even in the middle of the night which was typical for our stay, as we were attending a concert on the other side of the river that would go well past midnight. We would stay there again, and recommend it to others, just factoring in whether the location makes sense for the particular stay. We would also look around and consider options closer to metro stations and activities and food options and consider what is most important for our stay.
"A Wonderful stay"
I have just come back from cologne. I stayed in Art'Otel for seven nights..I chose it after I read the positive reviews.. It has a perfect location on the Rhine river, next to the bus station and chocolate museum, five minutes walk to tram station, ten minutes walk to the dome and shopping streets.. My room was an Art queen Rhine view, It was capacious, clean, and tidy. The window was big with very nice pink curtains.. Breakfast buffet was very good with different types of food, drinks, coffee and tea. I specially want to thank the frond disk employee Haider Naif, he was always there for my questions about every thing in the hotel or cologne, and he gave me a lot of help and support....The negative things that you have to ask for slipper or bath robe, and there is no complementary water in the room except for the first day. .
