"Breathtaking resort grounds, nice room, great pools and cool private beach, but expensive!!!"
My husband and I decided to treat ourselves and stay out last night in Bali at the Ayana Resort and Spa. Overall it was a good experience, the grounds of the resort are really beautiful. There is so much to see that you really don't need to leave the resort, it's close to the airport, this is a really good option to do for your last night as a last treat before returning back home, back to work, back to reality :( do you get a real Bali experience here....no, it feels like a resort in the Carribean/Mexico. The room is very spacious and beautiful, we opted for the least expensive room (and it was still very expensive) The resort has a trolley service that picks you up at the entrance and takes you to the other 2 resorts on the property (Rimba and Ayana Villas) they also take you to the private beach (Kubu beach) that's a very nice feature, it's a really beautiful beach, but I imagine for the elderly this is not an ideal beach as there are over 100 stairs to climb when you are leaving the beach. We had one really troubling incident happen while we were there, we opted to do the buffet breakfast (additional charge FYI) it was really wonderful, there was so much selection, many types of cuisines. But my husband got a dumpling to try, it said on the sign at the buffet "chicken dumpling" but when he bit into it there ended up being shrimp in it! (He is deathly allergic to shrimp- throat will swell up and restrict his breathing) Luckily he spit it out right away and washed his mouth out! He ended up taking some Benadryl because he was feeling itchy and not well, this made him so tired and sleepy for the rest of the day, our last day in Bali. The hotel was nice enough to let us keep our room until we left, we got a later check out. However, this could have really ended badly, and we are so lucky he ended up being ok. The really strange part of this is when we checked into the hotel one of the first questions they ask you is if you have any allergies, and he did tell them about the shellfish allergy. I would not have been as disappointed, but considering you asked initially about allergies and this slipped past the resort was frustrating to say the least. The other things that I would mention that were negative about the resort is that the spa was extremely over priced (I would have loved to have a spa service, but after the price we paid for the room this was not affordable) so instead we went outside of the resort and got massages for $15 at a nearby spa. (Compared to the resort spa that was over $100 American) the cheapest item on the menu was $65 American to go into the spa pools filled with salt water for 2 hours (there is a private beach you can go to for free to be in salt water and there are 13 pools on property you can swim in for free as well) so that's ridiculous honestly. The restaurants were expensive too, we ended up stopping at a restaurant outside of the resort on our way to the airport. The drinks were really really expensive, way overpriced! How is the beer or alcohol any different at this resort than other places in Bali'' I can get the same beer off property for a quarter of the price. The poolside service was good, the staff are very attentive. I can't complain about any staff members as they were all very nice! Would I go back...I don't know, it's hard to justify because it's so expensive and many other places we stayed at in Bali were one sixth of the price and we had a better overall experience.
AYANA is very nice hotel. rock bar is very beautiful. and nice staff. he name is gungdit. he is nice guy. and very interesting. he make happy time. thank-you.
We had a wonderful time at the Ayana. Definitely recommend booking the Club room as Club access is worth it if you intend to drink and eat a lot, which is what we did. Buffet breakfast was delicious and we loved the view. We would not hesitate to recommend this place and we'd stay here again.
"The People of Bali are Even More Wonderful than this Stunning Resort"
My wife and I do not often write reviews but we feel compelled to write about the Ayana Resort and especially its staff. The views at the resort were exceptional and the resort was gracious enough to upgrade us to a villa which was simply incredible. But what makes Ayana truly special are the people that work there. Honestly, every staff member that we made contact with went out of their way to make our stay special but there are a few people that we need to acknowledge. Our driver to/from the airport was I Ketut Swastika. He was so friendly, knowledgable and engaging. We had such an enjoyable conversation about the history of the island. If we had more time during our stay, we would have taken him up on his offer to drive us to so many of the beautiful temples in Bali. We ate breakfast every day at Dava. The food was delicious and was only surpassed by the service of the staff, especially Gus Wira. Dava was a great start to each of our days at Ayana. The butler/concierge service was also exceptional. We spent most of our time with Yandi, who truly went above and beyond to assist us. They not only drove us all around the resort but were so helpful in making dinner reservations at the Rock Bar and answering any and all questions we had about the resort. We had dinner at the Rock Bar on Feb. 13th and it was incredible. We had our own private booth and our server Wina was fantastic. She took pictures for us, taught us some key phrases in Balinese (which we butchered I'm sure) and just allowed us to relax and enjoy a memorable sunset. I ran into Wina the next night and she immediately remembered my name and we share some laughs about the night before . . . . simply incredible customer service. The staff at the Club Lounge was also amazing. Ari was there to greet us with a smile and provide us with cold drinks when we needed a break from the sun. Once again, I cannot recommend this resort enough. As beautiful as the resort was, the people who work there are even more so. Bali is a very long way from home for us, but if we are ever lucky enough to make the trip again, we will certainly visit our friends again at the Ayana Resort. Thank you so much, Mark and Heather C. "Amazing upgrade "
A truly once in a lifetime experience, upon arrival we were told of ongoing building works and upgraded to a private ocean view villa. Complete with our own butler and large private pool. This really made our time here and we were over whelmed by the generosity and kindness of the staff. Many nights were enjoyed at the sky bar , and if you are staying at the private villas you are given the best seats in the bar where you can watch epic sunsets Overall the complex was lovely with a beautiful private beach, although this wasn't open in January as the sea was very rough. If you are after a chilled beach resort than this is the place for you.
