Now that I've experienced Ayana I can't imagine staying anywhere else...well maybe Rhimba. I did not want to leave the resort although we did for a few hours while visiting Nusa Dua for a few more souvenirs. The Rock Bar is a must do as well as the unique experience of the aqua tonic therapy. We came to relax and it was mission accomplished. We started in a Garden View Room which was beautiful but then upgraded to Club and was not disappointed. The Ocean View Suite was breath taking and the Club Room was a hit with lovely food and great cocktails. The Staff in the club were awesome especially Ardi who remembered our names and was so friendly. I totally recommend the club and will upgrade again during any future stays. We did the golf buggy tour early in our stay which got us familiar with our surroundings and I recommend first timers to Ayana to book this free golf buggy tour of the grounds.
Faultless resort. Beautifully designed, welcoming staff, huge amount of restaurant choices serving delicious food from all over the world. The most incredible location and views. Very comfortable bed. Highly recommend a stay here.
"Ayana is a special corner of the world."
My husband and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary @ the Ayana. We booked our room before we even had airline tickets, thankfully Singapore Airlines got us there in comfort. Ayana was welcoming from the get go with a beautiful flower lei and a tropical cocktail at the check in desk. We were breath-taken by the gorgeous grounds as soon as we arrived, since the reception had an open air concept. The tranquil music playing in the background of most of the hotel grounds added to its' charm. We had been to Hawaii so many times from SF, but the trek out to Bali was well worth it. Our first night, we went down to the Rock Bar,which was situated dramatically on the cliffs down to the ocean - with a glass/clear floor. the more tropical drinks we had, the 'trip'ier' the atmosphere became. it was stunning. The next morning, we woke up to a spectacular view from the room balcony and an amazing breakfast spread was waiting for us at the outdoor breakfast terrace. I have never had such perfect tropical fruit, fresh coconut juice ( right out of the coconut) and food choices in one place. It was perhaps one of the best breakfasts in any hotel i've visited worldwide. Then, we took the trip down to Kubu beach. The hotel staff warned us it was 197 steps down, but , we didn't mind. It was so worth it. The cliffs are dramatic and the final destination, the beach itself is small, but picturesque . Warming: we swam and there was a serious riptide - and the rocks/coral were sharp so it was easy to cut your toes/feet if you weren't careful. But, the beach itself was unmatched, so unique. . The hotel helped us organize a tour of the island with a private driver, Mr. Artu. We booked our tour for 8 am, and lo and behold at 7 am , there was a major earthquake. It was the largest earthquake we had ever experienced, yet the hotel was safe and undamaged. The hotel staff took extra care in making sure everyone was fine and that the facilities were safe. Nothing happened at the hotel, and the driver arrived ontime saying there was no reason to cancel the tour. Sure enough, since most buildings are built with NATURE in mind. The hotel also arranged for us to have dinner(s) at Jimbaran beach - a close drive to the hotel. This was also an experience not to be missed. Dining at the hotel was also spectacular, but of course, leaving the premises made for a much cheaper dinner option. The hotel spa is also immaculate and the therapists are world class. This is a special corner of the world, and if you have the good fortune to go visit, do so. You will live to tell many Ayana resort stories. PS:make sure to buy the music CD and the special oils sold at the spa to bring a bit of the resort back home with you. An investment that will help extend your Ayana experience.
"expensive, but probably worth every penny!"
I stayed here for a friend's wedding, and goodness me it was really pricey! however, this was probably the best hotel I've stayed in so far and i'll definitely return again in the future! The view from my room was just breath taking, and shows you the beauty of Bali!
Before booking this places, please know that Ayana at Jimbaran is a pretty secluded resort. If you are looking for a vacation that is far away from the crowds, just want to relax by the pools, enjoy the private beach, pamper yourself with world class SPA like honeymooners, then this place is definitely for you. Ayana was our last hotel in Bali before heading back to LA (we had stayed in Seminyak for 4 days, Ubud for 3 days and then Ayana for 4 days). The positives: - They have 11 pools altogether. - Ayana is close to the beach and have splendid views especially from their ocean view pool. - The room is super comfortable and amenities were excellent. - Dining experience at Kisik seafood grill was beautiful and excellent. Prices were reasonable and foods were delicious (we regretted it that we tried this place on out last night, if we found it sooner, we would have all our meals here everyday). - Security is excellent (they checked every single cars, they have police dogs and even a military-uniformed guy at night time by their entrance). - They provide free shuttles to SPA, Rimba (their sister's hotel), their private beach and villas). - Every staffs are friendly, helpful and knowledgable (except... For this one lady named Min who escorted us to our room. As we arrived there during the sunset time and they put flowers around our necks, my husband asked the lady if she could take picture of our arrival with the sunset background, and to our surprise, she rejected us. She looked at her watches then said she couldn't do that because she needed to take us to our room immediately. She told us to go take pictures by ourselves after she showed us the room. But after waiting for our luggages, we missed the sunset. She seemed to be in hurry as well when she handed us resort maps, like....here it is, cost of breakfast, time of operations, shuttles and bye... We were like, wow, what an attitude in a service industry. Even if it was your time to clock out, you shouldn't do in front of guests). She was the only one who lack manners so we didn't feel welcome at all on our arrivals. We even had problems finding restaurants at night time in the dark and got lost because of her lack explanations. The negatives: - Everything is expensive. Prices weren't problems for us but it became problems when the prices didn't correlate with the quality they served (please keep reading.....) - Food at Honzen was terrible (we ordered stir fry udon, soba, 2 waters and an appetizer which costs us almost Rp. 650,000 ++) - If you didn't purchase the room packet with breakfast buffet, I would suggest you to skip it because it costs Rp. 365,000 ++ per person and worst of all even though they offered variety of food (Japanese, Chinese, Western, Indonesian, etc), the foods were terrible. We tried every single food there and they tasted very bad that at the end, we tried to fill our belly with fruits (I guess nothing can go wrong with fruits, right'). If you stay here for several days like us and hated their breakfast then you are stuck with nothing to eat in the morning. - The foods by the pools (again) were terrible. We spent most of our time in the pool so we chose to order our foods and drinks there. They have very limited menu (pizza, burger, sandwich, satay). Since we were in Indonesia, we chose satay but trust me it was probably one of the worst satay meals I've ever had in my life. - The resort is far and secluded and if you want to dine outside of the resort or explore other part of Jimbaran, be prepared to negotiate the high taxi price (bluebirds were not allowed to operate there, only Jimbaran taxi). - Airport transfers were priced per person (not per car like all other hotels) and I've found it to be ridiculous and they costed Rp. 350,000 ++ per head. - All pools are closed at 7 pm daily. Some maybe closed early for wedding (this disappointed my husband a lot because he likes hanging out in the pool. All other hotels we stayed have their pools' hours until 9-10 pm and one of them even open 24 hours. C'mon it's a secluded resort, how could you close the pool so early''!''). - AC in the room wasn't cold enough and we set it to the lowest temp with their ceiling fan turned on and we were still sweating at night and kicking our blankets. Will we go back to this place' Probably not after this one experience. I think even if we are looking for relaxing quiet resorts, we would choose staying in Nusa Dua area over Jimbaran. We went to Nusa Dua during our trip and did some comparisons, and we both like Nusa Dus better than Jimbaran. Our factors are mostly due to the location and what the location can provide us during our stays. Will we recommend this place to you folks' Yes, I guess...... For one time experience, for the views, the pools, the honeymooners. One thing for sure is that Asians love this place as there were a lot of tourists from Japan, Korea and mainland China.
