"Great place to get away from it all"
Ayara is laid beautifully in the hilltops overlooking Surin Beach in Phuket. We stayed in a gorgeous, very large suite with a great terrace, outdoor shower and splash pool. The suite could not have been any better. You really feel you have your own little flat. In the evening you hear the frogs quack and in the morning you wake up to the chirps of birds. The resort has a great spa, gym and large pool with its own restaurant. The food is good albeit service a little slow. Try the (local) crab quesadilla as this is really good. The staff is super sweet. However, the concierge is not really helpful, try the reception instead. You need to rent a car to make the most of your stay. We used Avis, which was fine. Walking on the road near the resort is not pleasant because of the traffic. Make sure you stay in a suite high up and away from the road as traffic can be noisy at time. Overall, the Ayara is a really great place. It is unpretentious and unsnobby and boasts the same amenities as all the other 5 star resorts on the island.
This was such an unexpected surprise! We couldn't have been happier with our room - they surprised us by upgrading to the very top of the hill. It's the kind of resort where you never want to leave your room because it's so luxurious. The deck chairs with the view of the Andaman sea and our own private dipping pool. Heaven!! Would recommend this adults only haven to anyone looking for a romantic spot. Also walkable to great restaurants.
"Lovely resort, but very quiet atmosphere"
My sister and I booked for 7 nights at Ayara Hilltops mid-December for a relaxing holiday before returning to Australia for the holiday season! We had adjoining Grand Deluxe Suites (843 and 844) which had an internal door that we left open. We both had our own space but could wander in and out. The rooms are beautiful - each one had a private plunge bath and a deck, an outdoor shower (perfect for the climate), a small kitchenette and separate living room. The view was lovely, with a view of the treetops, other villas and the sea in the distance. The staff at Ayara are just lovely - very helpful, especially when we were trying to book a tour around the islands, as well as organising a taxi and shuttle for us when we wanted to go out to dinner or for the day. For example, we went to Beach HQ one evening at Kalama Beach (for some overpriced trendy food, albeit in a beautiful beachside setting). A nice touch was the turn down service in the evenings - that little extra luxury really made the stay feel special. The buffet breakfast was great. There was a wide selection of asian breakfast options as well as western items such as eggs, muesli and yoghurt. The fruit was lovely and fresh - you must try mango when in Thailand, it's amazing! They also offer loose leaf tea (black, green, mint) in teapots which is perfect, or espresso-style coffee. Note that they had soy milk and even had some gluten free bread available which was appreciated. The pool area is beautiful and we really enjoyed relaxing there. The on-site Spice Restaurant had a number of happy hours (one during the day around 1pm, and two in the evening) where you could order snacks and cocktails at a very good price (cocktails were around 120 Baht or approx. AUD $6). The resort staff came around to your lounge by the pool and took your order which was a great touch. We also had a great treatment our first day at the onsite spa. They had a buy one, get the second treatment free deal, so that made the treatment especially affordable for a resort-spa experience. We also had treatments at the nearby resort spas at Twin Palms (wonderful - highly recommended!) and Manathai (also good). The only downside for this place would be the ambience. We booked Ayara knowing it didn't allow children, which was ideal for us as we wanted quiet, relaxation and that touch of luxury. We certainly didn't regret that choice! It was lovely to feel so private and secluded in our suites. However, it seemed that at any given time there weren't many people staying at the resort. While this was nice as we wanted relaxation, it did make us wonder if there was something wrong with the resort. The pool area was often empty apart for one or two other couples, and we barely saw anyone at the Spice Restaurant in the evenings. We came down for happy hour (between 5:30 and 6:30) so we could have some drinks before dinner, so perhaps other people ate a little later, but we honestly didn't see many people at all. The resort was either not booked up or people were choosing to eat elsewhere. Ayara could do well to market it more, as the setting is really beautiful - especially with all the Christmas and New Year lights around the pool. The food was nice but not especially exciting compared to other places in the area (we ate at Oriental Spoon down at Twin Palms a few times, which had wonderful food). However, all in all, our stay at Ayara was lovely and we would recommend the place to anyone who was planning a trip to the Surin Beach area who wanted some peace, quiet and that touch of luxury.
"Just love this place!"
A memorable two-week stay back in late 2013 secured a further visit to Ayara Hilltops in December 2016. Mentioning my previous visit when booking, we were delighted to be given on-arrival the same room 838 as 2013, offering great views and spacious accommodation. Higher up the resort's hillside and further away from the buzz of the road, the location is in may opinion one of the best available. The previous criticism of a hard bed was overcome with additional padding ensuring a much better sleep than previously! The beach restaurants have now closed, but two restaurants tried on the road behind the beach called 'D' and 'Audy' were good value and worth a visit. HQ Beach Club was a free buggy transfer away for a wallet-ripping experience, but worthwhile nonetheless and the similarly owned 'Catch Beach Club' has also now reopened so also worth a visit for a laid-back Ibiza-beach type experience. The main pool area was very relaxing and a regular 'Happy Hour' with an attentive waiting team was a great way to spend an afternoon or five. Yes, I love this place and offering such a fantastic package am sure we will be back.
We stayed at Ayara Hilltops for five nights and we enjoyed it a lot!! The two bedroom villa has a stunning view which you can enjoy while swimming at the infinity pool! The villas are located on the top of the hills with a beautiful traditional architecture and garden landscape. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful! All in all this was a memorial stay at Phuket!!
