"Excellent hotel, would stay again."
This hotel was pretty much ideal for us. Visited with my boyfriend for 4 nights, upon arrival we were given a choice of smoking or non smoking room and a map of the area, the receptionist told us where everything was and how to get there which I thought was very helpful. Room was modern, large and comfortable with lots of storage space, was cleaned every day and was immaculate every time we came back. Bathroom was also spotless with towels and toiletries replaced every time they were used. Only downside to room was I would have liked an ironing board but reception were happy to assist when we asked for one. Ordered room service once and it was nice but very expensive in comparison to restaurants we had been to. Hotel is around 30/40 minutes walk from city centre, not far from retiro park and there is a bus stop around 5 minutes away and 2 metro stops around 5 minutes away so it is close to transport links but since me and my boyfriend are quite young and like to stay out late sometimes I wish it was a little closer. Madrid is a beautiful city and I would recommend this hotel.
Room was very small, bed was a nightmare to sleep in as it was a double mattress laid across 2 single metal frames - every time either my husband or I moved, it felt like sleeping on a water bed! The en suite bathroom was actually just boxed in with opaque glass - so when either of us went to the bathroom during the night and put the light on, it lit up the whole bedroom and woke the other person. We hardly slept a wink over the 4 nights! Breakfast was just awful beyond belief - served in what felt like a school canteen, and the "hot" food was cold. It was definitely not the sort of place to relax in. The only saving grace was that the location suited us. Just a short bus or metro ride from the city centre, or a leisurely 45 minute walk through Retiro Park.
"Decent hotel, a couple of small letdowns"
The hotel is clean an conveniently located 5 minutes walk from an underground station. The ride to the city center is not short, but given the terrific metro system of Madrid, this is not a big problem (although you have to well plan your trip, since there will not be such a thing as "quickly resting and getting changed at the hotel" if you were roaming in the city center). The rooms were not particularly big, but acceptably sized, while the bathrooms were spacious and with a nice shower and amenities. We asked for toothbrush and toothpaste and they were promptly delivered to our room in a couple of minutes. In essence, everything was fine, besides a couple of small letdowns: there was no coffee or tea facility in the rooms and the air conditioning system (at least in our room) was rather noisy. If you can live with it and with the subway ride to go to the city center, then, I would strongly advise it!
Our room was rather small and cramped. There was good hanging space but almost no shelf or drawer space. There were however good storage space for suitcases. A small but adequate work space and good light and sockets. The bathroom made up for the bedroom, a great walk-in shower with water tight sliding doors and plenty of space for toiletries. Safe and hairdryer but no tea or coffee making facilities. The hotel is in two buildings which can be confusing when looking for restaurants etc.
"A decent hotel - a bit confusing to begin with!"
This hotel comprises of 2 buildings connected by a walkway. On arrival, our taxi dropped us off and as we had heavy luggage we followed the ramp signs but could not locate the ramp. So we then had to lug our bags up the stairs without assistance. At the check in desk we were informed that we had come to the wrong building, but from then on the staff were helpful in taking our bags, checking us in, and directing us to the other building. The rooms were quite nice with modern bathrooms (we did not have a bath although our children had one), and the heated towel racks was a nice addition. The food at the restaurant on site was quite good (although the bar and restaurant was in the other building to where our room was). I would prefer to be closer to the city centre, but this was a reasonable choice overall. We had to leave at 6.30am on our final day, and the staff were helpful in booking us a large taxi (as there was 4 of us plus luggage) and offered us breakfast packs.
