"Decent hotel, a couple of small letdowns"
The hotel is clean an conveniently located 5 minutes walk from an underground station. The ride to the city center is not short, but given the terrific metro system of Madrid, this is not a big problem (although you have to well plan your trip, since there will not be such a thing as "quickly resting and getting changed at the hotel" if you were roaming in the city center). The rooms were not particularly big, but acceptably sized, while the bathrooms were spacious and with a nice shower and amenities. We asked for toothbrush and toothpaste and they were promptly delivered to our room in a couple of minutes. In essence, everything was fine, besides a couple of small letdowns: there was no coffee or tea facility in the rooms and the air conditioning system (at least in our room) was rather noisy. If you can live with it and with the subway ride to go to the city center, then, I would strongly advise it!
Our room was rather small and cramped. There was good hanging space but almost no shelf or drawer space. There were however good storage space for suitcases. A small but adequate work space and good light and sockets. The bathroom made up for the bedroom, a great walk-in shower with water tight sliding doors and plenty of space for toiletries. Safe and hairdryer but no tea or coffee making facilities. The hotel is in two buildings which can be confusing when looking for restaurants etc.
"A decent hotel - a bit confusing to begin with!"
This hotel comprises of 2 buildings connected by a walkway. On arrival, our taxi dropped us off and as we had heavy luggage we followed the ramp signs but could not locate the ramp. So we then had to lug our bags up the stairs without assistance. At the check in desk we were informed that we had come to the wrong building, but from then on the staff were helpful in taking our bags, checking us in, and directing us to the other building. The rooms were quite nice with modern bathrooms (we did not have a bath although our children had one), and the heated towel racks was a nice addition. The food at the restaurant on site was quite good (although the bar and restaurant was in the other building to where our room was). I would prefer to be closer to the city centre, but this was a reasonable choice overall. We had to leave at 6.30am on our final day, and the staff were helpful in booking us a large taxi (as there was 4 of us plus luggage) and offered us breakfast packs.
"Average hotel but great location"
Stayed at the hotel to attend business meetings. Was allotted room in the America building (there is a Europa section as well). Room was not very spacious but clean. The room air conditioner worked ok but gave a whirring sound once in a while. Biggest disappointment for me was there was no coffee machine in the room since I need an early morning coffee - room service starts only after 7 am and this is another dampener. The bed was very comfy and had no difficulty in getting good sleep. Bathroom amenities was excellent. Breakfast is average - breads, fruit, yoghurt, fritters, etc. Omelette was served one of the days rest it was only scrambled eggs and my request for omelette was turned down.. Wonder why serving omelette is such a big deal! The cons of being a vegetarian! The business lunch buffet was ok but again not much vegetarian fare so had to settle for breads, salads and fruit and on the plus side some very good wine! Close to Retiro park is a plus. Taxis are available aplenty so well connected. Did not try the metro though. Had time for a hop in hop out short trip to visit a few places..Of course did visit some of the tapas Carlos Tartiere was fantastic for good wine and local spanish fare. Overall average stay...would have rated this place higher had it not been for the food.
