"Better views than wifi."
A once very luxurious hotel, now needs repair and updating, which hasn't been done in the past year. There is wifi in the room, but I don't know if it were better they didn't have any, as it comes and goes several times during the minutes you can catch hold of it. Then you go through the process of logging in again. The buffet breakfast is great and has a spectacular view of the 10th century roof tops, after which you can take a walk through the old town and see these buildings down up. The hotel is 2 blocks from the "Old" center of the city. It has been taken well care of so you can feel the history behind the majestic buildings and the narrow streets from the past. The staff is very helpful and friendly.
"A 4 star hotel which does not deserve all of them"
We all know, stars do not mean that an hotel is good, but that it offers a certain set of features. Yet we think that a 4 star is generally better than a 3 star. In my opinion this was not the case for Ayre Astoria especially because of the condition of the bathroom. The bathroom door had a few dents and missing bits, the bathtub had grime in the corners and the showerhead holder was also broken (see pics). In general the hotel looks impressive from the outside and the reception area is airy and full of light, but the rooms need a makeover.
Stayed for 4 nights in Superior room. It was very comfortable and clean. Location could not be better. Lovely breakfast on 9th Floor, with good selection of food. The only issue that bothered us slightly was the fact that there was no door in the bathroom. The toilet was however partitioned by a flimsy partition. This could possibly be a problem if staying with friends.
"Comfortable Relaxed Hotel"
The hotel is comfortable and relaxed. The rooms are not too large but, by inner-city continental standards, pretty well sized. Things going for it are that it is very clean with comfortable amenities and the staff are friendly and willing to help. The other great plus is, of course, its location: close to most of the sight-seeing standard locations of the city, right in the centre of the bar and restaurant zone and within comfortable walking distance of every type of shop that you might need. Travel time to and from the airport is acceptable and even at 9.00 a.m. on a weekday, I managed to make the airport in less than 30 minutes. One thing they can certainly improve on is English-speaking TV programs. For somebody like me who just cannot sleep unless the TV is on, the offerings seemed to cover every language in Europe and beyond with the exception of English !!!!
This property is located right in the heart of the city center. Outdoor cafes and restaurants steps away. Shopping within a short walking distance. The room furnishings are outdated and the bathrooms need renovating. The staff was very attentive and supportive. Overall, good value.
