Situated in the central Eixample area between Barcelona's two busiest business areas, Plaza Catalunya and Las Glorias, the hotel is 5 minutes from the city centre and 20 minutes from the airport.
Ayre Hotel Caspe is also just a short walk from various tourist sights, such as Gaudí's modern architecture on Passeig de Gracia, la Pedrera and Casa Batllò.
Tetuán metro station (Line 2), Arc de Triomf (Line 1) and the bus stops of many urban routes, are nearby the hotel.
"A Christmas to remember "
Our stay was phenomenal. The staff (especially Sarah) quickly became our "surrogate" holiday family. Always available and always suggesting what we should see or where we should go next. One of the gentleman (I wish I remembered his name) made our Christmas dinner reservations at Neyras and he must have said something because our treatment was beyond our wildest dreams. The property is central to all the places we wanted to visit. Just a walk's distance from La Sagrada Familia, Plaza Catunyas, Las Ramblas and more than I can mention. Never a need for public transportation unless you plan to travel a distance from the hotel, at that, I'd suggest using their bicycles. Breakfast buffet was a bit pricey but it gave us a reason to savor the local bakery (Oriol) just around the block. Although the staff worked during Christmas Eve and Christmas day everyone was so cheerful we treated them to desserts, as I said they were our family. In fact they're all invited to our home should they ever travel to the US. When we go back we'll definitely stay there. But more importantly, we'll stay at other Ayre properties because of our pleasant experience in Barcelona. Bon Nadal, indeed!
"Excellent and practical stay"
The location of the hotel is very good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel design is very practical and nice. It is 10mn walking distance from Sagrada Familia. I recommend it for friends and couples (not on honeymoon), although the couple rooms are upgraded with bathrobes and espresso machine.
On arrival I found the reception staff to be cold and a little snooty. The rooms were clean and modern, practical and suited the purpose given what we paid. The toiletries were nice. We arrived quite late on the first night so ate in the bar/cafeteria. The food was quirky, but super cheap. Bright lights made it feel a little like a work canteen, but actually, it was a great stop. We all ate our food with enjoyment and went to bed feeling relaxed. The bar offered a really excellent selection of gins, wines and other beverages and the prices were very reasonable - the cheapest we found in the whole of Barcelona. The breakfast buffet was a treat. Great bread selection, delicious pastries and a healthy array of hot and cold to suit all palates. The hotel is situated in a neighbourhood but is walking distance from all the major tourist attractions. So easy to find everywhere, a great location! I would stay again, but would ask the reception staff to smile a little....
"Well located hotel for a good price!"
I visited this hotel with my partner for 3 nights at the beginning of January. We were overall very pleased with our stay. The hotel is very clean and we liked how there were 2 showers as well as a bath in our room as this made getting ready a lot easier! The room was plain but nice with a comfortable bed. The staff were polite and helpful, and we were really pleased with the fact they let us leave our luggage in the hotel for a day after we had checked out as our flight was late at night. We didn't eat in the hotel so cannot comment on that but the restaurant looked nice. The location was great, just a 15 minute walk from La Sagrada Familia and about a 30 minute walk from the beach (we walked through the arc de triomf and the parc de ciutadella which was lovely!). Also close to metro/bus stations. Plenty of restaurants/cafes/bars around too! Our favourite was Firebug, which I would highly recommend if you stay here. There were a few things that stopped me giving it 4 stars; firstly the walls are very thin so you can hear everything going on around you, I would recommend earplugs if you want an early night. Didn't bother us too much but it could be a little annoying. Also there was no natural light in the room at all. There were windows but they just faced onto the inside the hotel which I found quite strange. I think if I had stayed in summer I especially wouldn't have liked this as it gave the feel that it was night-time during the day. Again though, not a huge inconvenience as we were not in the hotel a huge amount. Finally, though we couldn't smell it in our room, the hallways and lift absolutely stank of cigarette smoke which was quite unpleasant. However, other than these minor things we had a very enjoyable stay and would most likely stay again, especially for the great location. Definitely good value for money!
"Just a few tweaks would make it really 4*"
Can't complain at the location. Really easy to walk or get the metro all around Barcelona. The room was lovely.. Good heating/air conditioning system. Free shampoo etc, hair dryer, fridge with complimentary water, BUT needed tea and coffee making facilities. I hate getting up without my morning coffee and these days I do expect this facility in the room. There are two levels of breakfast. The €4 and the €13. The cheaper one is available in the cafeteria and is basically orange juice, coffee and a piece of toast. The €13 euro is a buffet in a roped off dining room and it was very varied and beautifully presented. The staff were lovely and helpful and we really can't fault the breakfast - hot, cold, fruit, pastries, bread, toast etc. However, the hotel states it has a restaurant but I think that is an ambitious statement! In the evening you eat in what I'd call a cafeteria. No ambiance and a basic menu - we double checked to make sure we hadn't somehow missed the restaurant and maybe greater things happened in the roped off area but it didn't. We ate out both nights. We would stay again as it location suited us and if I could just have coffee making facilities in the room I really don't mind eating out at night.
