"Romantic or what"
Catch the dedicated boat across the inlet, land at the private hotel landing stage, walk through to the comfotable seating area, just relax with a drink in one hand, a special person beside you, watch the sun go down, and let all your troubles melt away. The food is gjood, the waiters attentive, and the prices not too expensive for the experience.
My wife and I recently spent a weekend at the Al Wadi Desert Resort. We were in town for the RAK Half Marathon and chose this location mostly for the R&R it offered post-race. The location is easy to find, especially with the newly completed road construction of E611 all the way to the resort. As the road construction is completed from E611 towards the coast/city/E11 it will only improve this location's accessibility. The hotel is currently operated by RAK National Hotels and will officially become a Ritz-Carlton in Q3 2017. The smallest villas are very large (1700sq ft, including deck) with large bathrooms. They are also spaced out well enough that we never heard anyone else. Inside the villa there was ample water to drink, plenty of espresso, and a nice fruit tray upon arrival. The bathrooms have very nice amenities, Ritz-Carlton quality, that were refreshed each morning and at turn-down. Our stay (1960 AED per night) had breakfast and several activities included - archery and a nature walk (both led by Gabriel who was very professional, kind and knowledgeable) and the falcon and owl show which we enjoyed in it's temporary space while the permanent space is undergoing renovation. There was plenty of time to take photos and even volunteer to feed the birds. During our stay we enjoyed a meal on the rooftop cafe - they serve tapas and drinks plus shisha. We had two glasses of wine, a beef slider and squid ink risotto for 320 AED. One night we had room service as well. The menu is a bit limited but the service was quick and kind. We had greek salad, tenderloin, and chicken tagine for 443 AED. The Pros of our stay: The staff! They were so friendly, welcoming and kind. We never were passed by a cart that didn't offer us a ride. Everyone said hello every single time. Fast, free, and reliable internet all throughout the resort. The rain forest aqua therapy - this was incredible, we have never experienced anything like it. You reserve the area for 1 hour (2 adults, AED 264) and you have 14 stations of aqua bliss. They range from cold showers to saunas to a hammam to foot baths, etc. You can spend as long or as little time as you want at each station. It felt great after a good hard run that morning. I'd return to the hotel for this alone and have already told my friends about it. The cons of the stay: As many people have said, the property feels a bit dated. While we enjoyed the availability of water, it would be nice to see a more eco-conscious solution rather than all of the plastic bottles everywhere. There were certain times of the day that there were too many buggies/golf carts on the pathways – walking is not relaxing as you were dodging carts all the time. And finally, as wonderful as the hydrotherapy was, it has to be booked, and then is only available for one hour. It would be nice if it was available as long as you wanted it. We would definitely stay at this resort again and look forward to all that Ritz-Carlton ownership brings to the property.
"Amazing place, 100% commitment to hospitality"
First the very few negative points: it used to be own by Banyan Tree and only a few months ago became a Ritz-Carlton propriety. So the new management is doing the utmost to upgrade the place in the shortest time ( a few months they claim and I believe so). But the points to improve are just a few and the accommodation in villas with a large individual swimming pool and big rooms, the landscape and the acres of private desert, the tranquility, the few but interesting activities make this place a really special place. But the most important asset of Al Wadi Desert are the people working here. I am traveling constantly around the world for my last 40 years and I never found a place with 100% super nice people as this one. Starting from Ryme, the lady from the USA Ritz-Carlton company: she was in charge 25 hours a day and always very kind and very professional; the rest of the people were just the continuation of her kindness and professionalism. We will be back for sure, bringing friends and daughters.
