"An exceptional extravagance!"
We just returned from a four day visit to Banyan Tree and it ranks among our top hotels ever. Upon arriving and driving through the secluded natural grounds to the entrance, you immediately feel yourself being removed from civilization, taken to pure relaxation and peace. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and offered a cool towel and refreshing juice, and then taken to our Bliss Pool Villa. It was simply stunning, the pictures do not lie. The private pool is HUGE, especially for two people, and the temperature was surprisingly warm, yet refreshing. The decor in the villa is classy and intricate, all giving the inspired vibe that Banyan Tree strives for. In addition to the pool, there is an outdoor hammock, outdoor lounge chairs and table, plus another set of lounge chairs under a shaded deck. There is also an outdoor bathtub with romantic lighting to use at your leisure (but note it takes about 45 minutes to fill up!). While the room itself was worth the price alone, the other amenities set this hotel in the top tier for us. The breakfast buffet was by far the best I have ever experienced, and we definitely overate every morning thanks to the wide selection of delicacies offered. There were also free mimosas, which we very much enjoyed (Our waiters even learned to give us one "to go" when we'd finish up breakfast!). We tried Saffron and Tamarind too, the other restaurants on site. Both were very good, especially for not being Mexican food. The settings of both restaurants is very serene and elegant. We attended the manager's meet and greet one evening where we enjoyed complimentary cocktails and so many food items that we were almost too full to even eat dinner! That was a fun little option and a good chance to talk to the employees of the hotel. Later that night we ate in the hotel bar, which offers simple foods like quesadillas, mini tacos, guacamole, etc. and it was all delicious. Our last night we took advantage of the In-Villa barbecue. The food was absolutely amazing, although a word of caution that it is A LOT OF FOOD. My fiance and I are not light eaters, and by the time we got to the main course, even we couldn't handle more than a few bites. The chef was very friendly and made sure everything was to our liking, plus he set up a nice arrangement with table decorations and tiki lights to create a romantic atmosphere. We didn't eat at the Sands Beach club but we did try many of their cocktails, which were all great. The beach is more or less swimmable, although it can be a bit choppy. The water felt wonderful though! Probably the biggest takeaway from our trip was the customer service, which was absolutely phenomenal. Every employee was overly attentive, friendly, and gracious, making sure we had everything we needed. On our last day at breakfast, they brought out a piece of cheesecake with "Have a nice trip!" written on the plate, and at the beach they gave us complimentary glasses of champagne to wish us well on our journey home. The drivers of the golf carts and boats were also very friendly and more than happy to educate us about various aspects of Banyan Tree. Since people always want to know any negatives in advance of a trip, I will address a couple concerns, although they pale in comparison to the rest of the trip: 1. The prices -- yes, they are extremely high, especially the food/beverage taxes. However, they don't hide this fact from you, so you know upfront about the added charges. Plus many of the added taxes go towards tips for the staff, and after you meet them, you know they deserve ever single penny. We did end up tipping on top of the pre-assigned service fee, but we didn't mind since they worked so hard to keep us happy. 2. The rooms could use bigger fridges that aren't just mini bars -- since the resort is very secluded, we brought some alcohol and mixers after leaving the airport so we could have drinks in our room. There was very little room to store any of this, plus we had to continually request ice be delivered to the room. 3. There isn't really a little convenience store on site to buy some snacks or sodas -- everything is only available through the mini-bar or room service, and therefore extremely expensive. For being so removed from everything, it would have been nice to have the option to buy some essentials as the need arose. 4. Both our coffeemaker and iron didn't really work, and the shampoo/conditioner/body gel jars were often empty or hard to use. The conditioner was definitely of cheap quality. Overall though I would highly recommend the Banyan Tree Mayakoba to anyone looking to get away from it all, experience some top-notch customer service, and enjoy amazing food. We definitely hope to go back!
Absolutely one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The Serenity Pool Villa was out of this world, huge interior room space, an additional detached glass enclosed pavilion with tv, minibar, coffee, etc, and a heated pool and whirlpool that was fabulous. In addition to the massive interior, you get a large exterior patio/yard with complete privacy. One of the best features about the Banyan Tree Villas (over the other Mayakoba resorts) is the privacy. While the mangroves are more overgrown, it provides you with your own peaceful paradise which is a plus. The staff, no matter who they are, welcome you with smiles and great enthusiasm. The service was outstanding. Special thanks to Pablo and Alejandra at La Copa, Bernardito, and Jose Manuel. Also a special shout-out and thanks to Gena our very special and memorable host. We ate at Saffron, Tamarind, Oriente, Sands, La Copa and the Ixchel boat and all were fabulous. While the beach is a bit away from the main hotel, they provide you with bicycles to roam about which is great exercise after all those big meals. You can also go by boat. We enjoyed ourselves so much here we have already booked next year's vacation and plan to stay longer.
"Great in every way possible"
We absolutely loved staying here. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by Mauricio Garcia who was the best of many wonderful employees. He helped us with all of our needs and followed up every detail. Our room was beyond wonderful, with its own private heated pool and hot tub, so much so that we barely wanted to leave it even for the beach. Eat a meal outside on the deck of Saffron, the Thai restaurant. We were skeptical about Thai food in Mexico, but the setting is magical at night and the food lived up to NYC standards. Thanks Mauricio, and to everyone at Banyan Tree Mayakoba for making our trip so special.
Stayed 3 nights after the PGA event a few week ago. The villas, main hotel and restaurants, the beach club/pool, golf course...all amazing. Splurge for the villa with private pool as it's so worth it for couples. Restaurants were great, but pricey. But, if $$$ is your main concern, you shouldn't be staying here. If not, well worth it.
"Quiet and serene "
Beautiful, relaxing and excellent private villas with well kept natural landscaping giving a feeling of seclusion. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, maybe a little over the top. Easy to get around on their staff driven carts. Food was excellent.
