"A Must experience"
This is an awesome property. A must if you are visiting the Riviera Maya. You must take the eco tour and eat at Saffron. The culture is something that you will never forget. I highly recommend Banyan Tree
"The most luxurious vacation we have ever had....."
Pictures do not do this property justice. The property and the people do. Just a wonderful vacation with fantastic service and food. What a delight. Every detail was perfect and customized. I would highly recommend!
Highly recommend Banyan Tree for any occasion. My fiancé and I got engaged here and had a very romantic time with both the Ixchel and in-villa dining. She also had an amazing time at the spa. As a fit couple we also got a good workout in at the gym. This place was a 10/10!
Like most 5-start resorts, the Banyan Tree Mayakoba looks great on the web. Unlike most, however, the reality is even better. This resort has taken the top spot in our hearts for now. We can't wait to return. The setting is magical amongst the jungle and waterways of the Mayakoba preserve. The nature trail and pathways are inviting and well maintained. The villa is beyond belief with a pool that is much more useful than the pictures and description suggest; the pool is large (maybe 30' x 4' x 4.5') and is really a fully useful swimming pool suitable for laps. Coming home from time away golfing or riding bikes or at the beach and dipping into the cooling pool was simply heaven. Although all the units are close together, the feeling of privacy is complete. We never saw or heard another guest in any way that wasn't friendly and welcome. The restaurants were good but pricey. We spent $200/day is extra charges we really didn't anticipate; plan on doing the same. The entire Mayakoba resort complex (four 5-star resorts on property) is integrated so all the restaurants are available to everyone as are activities. Golf at El Chamaleón is incredible and must be done. Above all, the service is incredible. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and somehow managed to delight us again and again with little service touches we didn't expect. Even staff we never personally worked with seemed to know us and be happy to see us. We wish we could be part of the Banyan Tree Mayakoba family all the time. If you're thinking about going and wondering whether this resort is worth the money, or whether it's the right one in Mayakoba, stop looking and book the trip. You will be very happy you did.
"Beautiful, private, truly nice hotel"
This is a tough one to rate. My husband and I went with our 18 month old. After a LOT of deliberation between the Rosewood and Banyan Tree we chose BT because the pools looked a lot bigger, so did the villas and overall it seemed a bit more baby friendly. Rosewood is priced a tiny bit higher but anyone who can afford to stay at BT can definitely afford Rosewood as well so I would guess price isn't a consideration for most people who stay here. Speaking of price be prepared to be mildly shocked at your checks from restaurants but again, if you are staying here money is likely no object since the room rate itself isn't for the faint of heart. On to the great: My husband and I have had the pleasure of staying at some truly nice hotels as well as some hostels, inns, and everything in between. This is a *truly* nice hotel. With a nice hotel usually comes nice clientele and we enjoyed the friendly polite guests as much as we enjoyed the lovely staff. We were here for 5 nights so got to experience quite a bit of service as we tended to vegetate by the pool and order in morning through late night. The grounds are beautiful, the villas are private with the privacy punctuated by boats passing by every so often that we could see from our pool but my little girl enjoyed even those. For reference we were in a Spa Villa. The staff seemed to be ever present for any requests and 'no' isn't in their vocabulary so if you need something they will likely make it happen. Cannot say enough nice things about each person we encountered- Denny, Ricardo, Marco, Jose and the numerous others who made our stay very pleasant. Now for the not so great: 1. There is a review right before mine that talks about the rooms not being super clean. I kind of agree with that. It wasn't the interior necessarily but the exterior that didn't seem scrubbed before the room was handed over to us. I get that we are in nature and there are some trees surrounding the villa but that's no excuse for cobwebs, assorted furries floating in the pool, water stains on the outdoor bathtub and just the tiles not being wiped well. The pool boys did a great job every day while we were there trying to keep the pool clean but it didn't feel deeply cleaned right before we got the key. We even changed our villa but the next one felt similar so I gave up. 2. They also managed to get several of our orders wrong on day 2 and 3. Chicken quesadillas showed up instead of beef after a specific conversation with the person taking the order about "steak or ground beef." Virgin colada served in place of a pina colada after a 25 minute wait for someone to even take our order at the beach. Then Lattes instead of drip coffee after a 40 min wait for breakfast. By this point we decided to leave feedback because we did not want to be completely irritated by the time we left feedback and it was clearly headed in the wrong direction. So we gave feedback and got a call apologizing for the gaffes. They also insisted we dine at their Italian restaurant because we'd find it great. So we did- and did not find the food great after about 400USD worth of food. In contrast Saffron had amazing food. We returned to the beach after having given feedback about slow service at the beach, got the same guy who came quickly enough this time, returned when we wanted to repeat our order but then never showed up again after serving the second round. Not to check for food, not to present the bill, nothing. We eventually got up and walked out hoping to be stopped on our way out to sign the check, but, nothing. I also got a previously opened jar of blueberry preserve with my breakfast after the feedback was given. A coffee cup with lipstick marks also arrived another time. I was told the staff was aware we had given feedback so would have expected a bit extra caution. Since we were only there for a handful of days these errors appeared to come very regularly which was very disappointing. 3. Another thing which we did not correct them for was our names. My passport is in my maiden last name but the booking was under my husbands name. So I get why staff would want to address me by my maiden last name and my husband by his. But, what was curious was that there was no standard- I was addressed intermittently as "Senorita husband's last name" and then 2 mins later as "Senorita maiden name" but most surprisingly my husband quite a few times was addressed as "Senor my maiden name"!!!!! Amusing at best for us but I can imagine some people being quite irritated with something like that. 4. Housekeeping did not show up until 4pm on our second to last day despite turning privacy light off and that was after I called. 5. Now to the one thing that really made me really upset: we did not have a car seat going to the hotel so the driver suggested we request one coming back which we did. We were told the car seat will be requested. When we boarded our vehicle to the airport the driver informed us he had no idea we had a baby with us so did not get a car seat which is entirely unacceptable. 6. This was was quite irritating to me and all the ladies will relate. I have a skirt that for some reason my husband thought was ok to throw a bottle of orange pedialyte over in the suitcase last minute. You guessed it, the pedialyte leaked. I gave the skirt and a pullover to be DRY CLEANED but later got a call from housekeeping that they laundered the skirt but the stain wouldn't come out. I was alarmed and told them that it wasn't supposed to be laundered but dry cleaned. Which they then proceeded to do but any one who has had a stain on a silk garment would know that unless you catch the stain while it's still fresh, you absolutely cannot try to launder it since it will set the stain which happened in this case. I also got the pullover back with pilling which was upsetting. We try to be respectful of the staff and the hotel as much as possible when we travel so we don't constantly want to be giving feedback while we are staying there but some of these things were entirely unacceptable even from a mid range hotel let alone a hotel in the class of BT. I still can't say I won't return but at some point just an apology feels very insufficient when you are paying these prices and expecting a flawless stay; it feels like that's exactly what we got- lip service with not too many corrections made even after we tried to nudge them in the right direction. Overall I still recommend BT and will probably go back at some point I just wish we'd have better luck with things the next time.
