The very first Banyan Tree resort is 22 years old but not showing signs of advanced age, thanks to very well kept villas and a staff that is tireless in their effort to please guests. While food in the resort are a bit pricey and yes I agree, not out of this world great, there are more options to choose from than some of the reviewers suggested. There's also a short shuttle bus ride to the Laguna property entrance where loads of restaurants, both Thai and other cuisines, can be found. But it was great going there, having the Turtle Club for the children was magnificent and we always retreated to our villa's pool to unwind towards the end of the day. There were small problems here and there and overtime I brought it up, they were quickly met with efficient handling and a resort rep assuring us that we're taken care of. Lastly, we had to last minute extend our stay due to typhoon fears around the region, thankfully we were given the option to and gladly had 2 more days of bliss in Banyan Tree Phuket. Literally the only thing that counts as a regret is the season we arrived in (October) is at the end of the rainy season and beach waves were choppy so we weren't able to enjoy the beach much or go out to sea...but we'll be back and we'll come stay with you again Banyan Tree, my daughter left a memory leaf and we look forward to spotting it when we come back!
The resort and room size is much larger and better maintained than I expected. Gym has satae-of-the-art equipments that you can really enjoy. The resort is perfect place for all the family. There are a variety of options in a number of restaurants.
Spent 5 nights in a single villa could not have been more satisfied, staff were great always there to make our stay great always with a smile. Food first class as was service. Each villa has bikes you can use and the resort has golf buggies to drive you around. The entire Laguna area is also serviced by a free bus service to take you to other resorts and some shops. We were given a free shuttle to Patong where we spent a day again the driver was great greasing us with a huge smile. Could not find a friendlier place. Will return. Rick C
"Good, almost great."
First time back to the Banyan Tree Phuket in nearly 10 years left me feeling that whilst its still a really good resort, it was not quite as amazing as I remembered it being. The good The villas have been, are being, updated since our last visit. My family of 4 were in a 2 bedroom spa\pool villa and it was very modern and well appointed. The only issue with it was noise from both adjoining villas and the construction site opposite. Soundproofing between villas needs to be improved; construction - will get onto that later. The staff are, mostly, as warm and friendly as I remember them being. The resort was completely full from what I could tell, but they kept their smiles going and everything seemed to tick along efficiently. The less good Food across the resort was disappointing. There was nothing specifically bad about anything, but it was not out of this world and the choices were very limited. The Japanese restaurant was especially ordinary and we could have been eating in any suburban location. Not to say the food was bad in any way, it just seemed very, very average. Waterfall was ok and where we ate most evenings but again the selection of food was not great and most of it was imported. The quality was good, however, and the staff really great. The in-villa BBQ was really good; portions were not huge but it was very professionally run and we had a great evening. Saffron was the biggest disappointment; I have very vivid and fond memories of it from my last visit but this time around it had really fallen. The first issue, which has been raised by many, its is combination of dress-code and location. It used to be located inside an air-conditioned room near the resort shop but is now partially open air. Its very uncomfortable in formal clothing (not that all followed the rules) in that humidity. There is small inside area, but we were not offered that as an option. The resort has expanded a lot over the years, but facilities have not. In short, lots more people all using the same number of facilities. Given the nature of the villas, its probably that most don't venture to the public areas, but the ambience of the resort as a whole has been lost. Its now a relatively large, family destination. Let me repeat, a "family" destination. If you are a couple looking for tranquility, keep looking, especially as construction appears to be ongoing. Throughout our stay, the staff were constantly apologising for it being Golden Week; my wife is Chinese, my extended family is Chinese, my children are half-Chinese, but I'd never heard of this before. In short, its the biggest national holiday in China and the resort was flooded with mainland Chinese visitors. We were told to get to breakfast before 8:30 or expect delays. We never made it to breakfast and opted for in-villa dining instead. As a general note for travellers, check for Golden Week, if its on, plan your trip some other time if possible. Conclusion Its a good resort that offers solid service, but is no longer the exclusive oasis of tranquility it once was. If you are a family looking for a decent break, I would recommend it, but if you are expecting a total luxury experience, that ship has sailed.
"A perfect place for events!"
Need a place to conduct training or workshop' Banyan Tree Phuket is one of the best location to do it! The Banquet Team is very flexible and accommodating all our request to make it a successful one. K. Tom & K. May from Banquet Team and other F&B Team member under the guidance of K. Boyd always ensure our event is carrying out smoothly. The teabreak is another highlight. They have prepared different theme for every teabreak ie Healthy menu, Lemon theme, Mango theme, Dimsum theme, etc. The foods are yummilicious😄😆😃 Very creative and presentable! Thanks to Chef Alfonso and the F&B Culinary Team! We will definitely be back to organize other workshop @ Banyan Tree Phuket!
