"Not what we where expecting"
Our family (all adults) of 5 stayed in 2 one bedroom signature villas for 5 nights early April. We were all really looking forward to staying at the Banyan Tree but left underwhelmed. The villas were tired and in my view badly designed, with an outside bath, which nobody used for fear of getting bitten by mosquitos. We did however, like the complimentary soft drinks and snacks. The beach towels provided and sunbeds outside were in poor condition. The Wi-Fi was poor and having to continually keep entering the password was a pain. Breakfast was ok with a good selection but the service was poor - coffee took 15 minutes to arrive every day and when it did it was cold. The gym was very small and annoyingly allowed young children in. Our bikes were in poor condition and went missing on two occasions. The hotel is not set on the beach meaning you have to walk over a road to get to it and the beach facilities were poor. The grounds are very nice and well manicured and all the staff were friendly and greeted you with a smile. In summary, I was expecting much more from this hotel - at no stage did we feel special, so as a consequence I would not recommend it.
We have stayed 2 nights at the the Banyan tree Phuket as part of our honeymoon trip to Thailand. We dont know where to start from! First of all, they have upgraded our reservation to a bigger villa (signature pool villa), the service and hospitality at arrival can not be better, welcoming drinks, biscuits, and cold towels with amazing flowered smell. They have took us in a tour around the resort, to introduce all places, restaurants, bars, etc,. Once we reached our villa, we found a welcoming gift from the guest service manager with a nice welcoming note as well as a cold coconut drink. We have also been offered a complimentary mini bar drinks and snacks. We have to admit that there were very responsive to us, once we were enjoying our private pool, we found a lizard (which is very common in Thailand), my wife get very scary of it, but as soon as she called the guest service, they came across and took it out from the back yard, to make her feel safer, the security and duty persons came back again to check all over the place again. Soooooo kind of them :) Finally, we have enjoyed our stay to the maxxxx, we highly recommended this fantastic place for those whom looking for an enjoyable, romantic, and unforgettable trip. We will definitely be back and will recommend it to our friends. The food was excellent, they have variety of food, international, Italian, Japanese,, with an asian and thai flavored. One last thing, this resort is not a five starts one, no, its a SEVEN starts one :) We would like to thank you all for everything and for making our trip an unforgettable one. Nadine & Maher
Our initial feeling upon arrival at our villa was one of being underwhelmed. We had high expectations for Banyan Tree but sadly our Pool Villa did not live up to this. I think the pictures on the website made it look much larger than it actually is and this may in part have something to do with how we felt. The outside area felt quite cramped and was lacking any space or wow factor. Positives Check-in was seamless and professional. Golf course opposite is excellent and all the staff here are a credit. I played/practiced here every day and received a very warm welcome every time. Lovely people! Breakfast is very good. Not the best we have experienced on our travels but still good. Would like to mention though that there is definitely no champagne at breakfast as some have mentioned. It is in fact a very cheap sparkling wine (not exactly 5* star! You can have a 1/2 bottle of Moët in your room for £110 though!!). Bikes to get around the resort are good however if you try to leave the resort area you will be stopped by security! I understand this is a safety thing but it's a shame for most people. The beach is nice but Banyan area is small and therefore crowded and not very peaceful so we didn't use it. There are a couple of Thai beach bars that serve food and drink at much cheaper rates than Banyan tree. They do take away too so would recommend getting your water, beers, food etc from here and taking back to your villa. Laguna area is very nice and lots of choice. I would suggest using some of the restaurants that are not affiliated with the hotels though. You will get a much better deal and the food is excellent. I can highly recommend Cut restaurant. Food is great as is the wine. They also have a free pickup and drop off service. Give it a go! Service is mostly excellent and in keeping with a true 5 star hotel. Some of the guest services staff speak better English than others though and it can take a few times explaining what you are after if you call them. Turn down gifts. Everyday you will receive a little gift during turn down. We had a bookmark, candle, purse, fan etc. Nice touch! Negatives Would agree with some other reviewers that villas are starting to show signs of wear and tear. Decking in our Pool villa was damaged, as was the glass surround for the pool which leaked constantly (have pictures). Mosquito's!! We spent a couple of weeks in other parts of Thailand before arriving at Banyan tree and did not have one bite. After a few days here we are covered. It's mostly down to the lagoon location I guess but very annoying! Didn't notice any 'fogging' here like we saw at other resorts. Class system is very apparent. The bigger your villa the better service you will receive. Which said another way, the more money you spend with them the more attention you get. You could suggest that's fair enough but not if you're on the receiving end and we don't want any part of that thanks. This will undoubtedly leave some guests feeling unloved. Poor internet/wifi. Very intermittent connection and speed. Quite frustrating overall. They have 3/4G dongles available to borrow. These are much better! The price of food and drink here is ludicrous! It just isn't in touch with reality, similar to Dubai but we are in Thailand! Get a grip!!. A few examples would be: 1. Fillet steak on room service menu is £50!! At an excellent restaurant about a mile away (Cut) it's £20. 2. At the beach bar we were charged £4 for a 500ml bottle of water. It's not about the money it's the principle. Who likes being ripped off' I know we don't. I just don't get why they have decided to do it. You just end up annoying people and sending them outside the hotel to eat/drink. Apart from a few things from room service we didn't eat or drink at the hotel, that should tell you something. We actually went to sister hotel next door for some lunches as was about 25% cheaper! 3. Another example would be a glass of my favourite wine. We stayed at Angsana (sister hotel) and the brand wine was £10 per glass, at Banyan Tree for exactly the same thing it's £14! I'm sorry but things like this just leave a very sour taste (no pun intended). 'Of course because you can afford a better hotel we are going to charge you extra for everything!' Service is exactly the same, glasses are the same etc. It's just pure greed! We had an unfortunate experience with some biting insects in our bed. We reported to the management who were very apologetic and moved us to a new (nicer) villa. This villa (signature) is more what we were expecting from the outset. They also sent us a bottle of that cheap sparking wine and a letter of apology. There isn't a huge amount the hotel can do to prevent bed bugs/fleas, they can only react when an issue is reported. However a manger tried to appease my wife by saying it was sand fleas from the beach. It really wasn't as she had them all over her abdomen in clusters and we did not use the beach for sunbathing at all. Didn't have the bites before going to bed but wake up with them and tummy under the covers all night. Don't have to be Einstein to work this one out. We also took pictures of tiny flea looking bugs and eggs in our bed, which I am happy to share! Overall we would not return to Banyan tree. I feel it may slightly be trading on its reputation. I'm not saying it's bad, far from it, I just expected more given the industry reputation/hype. We have stayed in better villas in Tenerife (Villa Suite Maria) and in Koh Samui (Kirikayan) and Maldives (Kuredu) all of which are same price or better. What a shame...
"Luxury resort with great service"
Stayed June 2016 in the off season, resort was very quiet. (sorry for late review!) we had a 2 bedroom villa (4 adults and baby) and when we realised there was no tv in the lounge I rang to see if they can do anything about it and the lovely staff upgraded us to a deluxe 2 bedroom villa which was even better and with an extra study. (Although seriously how is it possible not to have a TV in the lounge room'!'!) The pools at the villa were well maintained and the main pool was incredible. We hung out by both all day long. Resort close to airport which was handy as we got in late but not close to Patong which we didn't mind. There are some awesome restaurants within a 10 min drive which the hotel put us in touch with. We were checking out at 5pm and the again the lovely staff put us in a small villa for the day at no extra charge so we could at least be comfortable for the plane journey home. Overall a great holiday and hopefully plan to return soon!
"Our first family vacation"
We stayed in the spa pool villa. We never left the villa other than to go to the beach. We had friends staying at the lagoona, and they would come over every night for a swim and for a bbq in our villa. It was the best way to travel with a new born, ulitmate privacy when you are figuring out the new born thing. The daily breakfast was set up in our villa, over looking the lagoon. And daily massages, I never wanted to leave. Amazing amazing amazing Banyan Tree Phuket, you could be one of my favorite resorts ever!
