"Family option: junior suit + double"
We were traveling as a family of 4 adults and a four year old one and booked the family room option. The entry to the "Appartement/suit" is one, but than it separates into two separate rooms (JS and DB). Both rooms have lockable doors, which makes it very convenient, if you want some privacy sometimes. One major accident/inconvenience was with the room service. On one of the days around 9am he knocked at the door, after not getting an answer opened the door to our JS, called out "room service" and moved forward towards the bedroom. Since we were all still asleep and woke up to a total stranger standing next to our bed, got scared as hell. He apologized of course and left, but this was a really weird situation and our little one was anxious afterwards. Junior Suit (Room 519): Very specious, big storage for the clothing in the corridor, a sitting area with a sofa, desk and a TV. The sofa can be used as a bed, but the main bed itself is very specious (two queens together'!), so the child can sleep in. The bathroom is of a nice size, with a walk-in rainforest shower. The only downside is, that there is absolutely no privacy in the shower. It's ok with the hubby, but with the child around was a bit tricky. The cleanness was good, but not spotless. Especially shower mold (the shower head holder, etc) and the furniture dust can be taken better care of. The coffee machine definitely is a plus, but the coffee is so-la-la (matter of taste of course). Tea supply was also nice. A giant plus are 10+ windows. The room is floating with the light. Also the office buildings around give a kind of Manhattan feeling (and again matter of taste). The robes and the slippers are a nice touch. I am not sure, if they are in all rooms, but the suits definitely have them. Location: Location is perfect. Right next to Binnenalster, shopping area, city center. For further destinations we look car2gos and driveNow (car sharing around Europe), which were plenty Hamburg. Food: We didn't take breakfast, since we were not planing on getting up before 10 am (yes we are lucky and our kid still sleeps till 9am, if we let him :-D ). So no comments there. But we did have dinner one time in the hotel and it was good. A little tip for the late breakfasters. There is a very good cafe in Jungfernstieg (opposite to Alex). The entrance is through the Vodafone shop, 2nd floor. They do serve brunch till pretty late and the options are very nice there. Parking: Parking is tricky on the street. We got fees on 2 days (10€ and 35€ (they came over twice in one hour)), so I guess putting the car in the garage is a better choice. Double Room (Room 520): Good size room with a desk to work, walk-in shower, big bed. The only major downside for me was, that directly look into the glass door shower from the entrance door. So there is no way to have private shower and not worry that somebody might come in. Would I recommend this hotel: definitely, would I stay again: maybe ;-)
Very nice hotel which is very well located close to the train station and convenient for my meetings I will definitely stay at this hotel again if I go to Hamburg again on business it's a good place to stay
"Amazing trip & even better stay!"
This was mine & my partners first time travelling around Christmas time (we was aiming for Christmas markets) and we definitely got them in Hamburg! We stayed at the Barceló from the 24th - 27th of November 2016 and honestly can't say we had any faults in the slightest. Our room was on level 3, at the front of the hotel (with a door inside the bedroom that opened so you could see outside) which was a nice view. The location is ideal, literally a five minute walk into a shopping centre that caters all of your needs and if you walk right the way through this shopping centre you come out at the main Hamburg Christmas market. On arrival we was greeted by a man (apologies I didn't take your name) but was extremely helpful with maps advising where to visit for the best Christmas vibes and nightlife and we always received service with a smile. The rooms are lovely with big beds & a pillow menu! Nice powerful strong showers and the complete layout with the sink in the middle of the room is stunning. The hotel is approximately 10-15 minute walk away from the station. All in all this was a fantastic trip and if we ever return to Hamburg we will be checking back in at the Barceló!
"Pleasant hotel and great location"
*Very pleasant & helpful front desk staff. *Great location for the Christmas markets and city centre shopping. *Extensive range of offerings at breakfast. *Great shower - hot and powerful. Can anyone solve the mystery of where the steam goes to' There doesn't appear to be any extraction fans and even though steam is generated, it disappears rapidly! This hotel is just a couple of minutes from the city centre, but Ferdinandstrasse is very quiet. To get from the hotel to the airport by train (S1 S-Bahn metro rail network) via the Hamburg's Hauptbahnhof (central railway station) takes just short of one hour (from check out to check in) and costs just EUR 3.20. It is not worth taking a taxi between the railway station and the hotel as it is less than 5 minutes' walk away, even when trailing luggage. NOTE: Use one of the first three carriages as the train splits before reaching the airport and the rear three carriages go to another destination. The hotel information boasts an impressive wine collection, but when we were there it looked as though it was not being maintained.
