"Worst place in all of costa rica"
We have been in Costa Rica for two months and have stayed in a variety of hotels and vacation rentals. We have also stayed in other Barcelo properties in Mexico and our friends that were with us stay at the Barcelo in San Jose and loved them. This was not the case at the Barcelo Tambor. This hotel was by far the WORST PLACE we stayed in Costa Rica. The rooms were very old and outdated also had a damp feel to them. The staff are all very rude and no one paid any attention to use because we did not speak Spanish. The line up for breakfast was 40 people long at 8:30 am so we asked if we could grab a coffee and sit out by the pool while we waited for the line up to die down. we were yelled at for walking out with a coffee, they told us the snack bar had coffee in paper cups and we couldn't use the porcelain cups outside. so we put our cups down, walked across the pool deck, grabbed paper cups, filled them with luke warm coffee only to realize there was no cream or sugar and we would have to go back into the main dining hall to get these items. Once again we were told we could not enter the dining hall and would have to wait in line.. even just to get cream and sugar! There are two pool bars that constantly have a lineup. The drinks at the pool bar are all sickly sweet and if you try and ask the bartender to make them without the syrupy fruit juice they just ignore you and move on to a Spanish speaking customer instead. The pool itself is packed full of people and kids and is very dirty with plastic straws floating everywhere. The morning we checked out our room key stopped working before we were able to enter the room to collect our bags. We went to the front desk and asked them to fix our key, walked back to our room to find out that the key still didn't work. Went back to the front desk 2 more times before the key actually worked. By this time we had had enough and just wanted to leave, we asked the front desk when we were getting our key to work if we had to line up in the 20+ person line to check out, they said no we could just leave as long as our room was already paid for. We pack our bags into the car and get up to the front gate only to be told we would have to turn around and get an exit paper from reception. They would not open the "Exit" gate so we could re-enter through the "Enter" gate, they made the 5 cars and a greyhound bus behind us back up and then made us reverse down the one lane 500m long driveway. Once I got to reception the man behind the counter simply asked for my room number and gave me a tiny white piece of paper. All of that for a little piece of paper! This resort is not for tourists, it is only for Spanish speaking customers DO NOT STAY HERE if you want a relaxing beach holiday in Costa Rica,
Barceló Tambor is a Great family place, It is an older Hotel. But has everything you need. Alexander at the front desk is the most helpful person at any Hotel that I ever been to on vacation!!. At the main bar,The bartender Esqurado (sp) is fabulous!!! Always a smile on his face & quite entertaining!! The beach is long & great to take walks. Again black sand & rocky, you need water shoes. At times my husband & myself were the only 2 people in the ocean. Loved the waves!! Great pool area, but could get crowded on the weekends.. Food was ok.. always could have more variety. Really not a lot of English speaking people here, Working here, or on vacation. Always something to do at this place. If you love Hot & sunny weather Costa Rica is your place. We took the small plane from the Liberia airport, was safe & fast. I would subject this otherwise about a 3 hour drive. Our first time in Cost Rica. We will be back..
"Great all inclusive beach vacation"
The hotel is modern and clean. Great location right on the beach. The staff is friendly and efficient. We stayed in one of the rooms with a superior view and it was well worth it. Food was first rate included drinks are only of the local variety but they are good, not cheap but worth it.
"Barcelo resort at Tambor beach, Costa Rica"
Excellent place to stay, good rooms and a feast to eat every day!!! Very nice pool and great entertainment at night, beach is good !! We love this place... can't wait to go back!!!! James C Denver Colorado
This all inclusive resort provides a very good experience for your money. The best dinner we had was at the steakhouse restaurant. The Japanese restaurant is nothing special. The salad bar could vary way more than what it was. The buffet lacked a chef grilling during lunch and dinner. There was only one night that a chef was grilling meat. One day no red wine available. The flavour of the food was very good. You have to pay extra for premium alcohol. The beach is one of the best we've walked. Very wide and very long. A great work out! The resort has kayaks and boogie boards for water fun. Not sure why they don't have small catamarans as the wind is absolutely perfect for such recreation. Not much good for snorkeling. The wildlife is abundant and we saw mackaws, monkeys, racoon, anteater, numerous iguana, crocodile, deer and lots of other tropical birds. The room was standard and the bed was okay. Beach towels were available all the time which was nice. Pool was kept clean and lots of available loungers. Free wifi would have been nice. The evening shows are not very exciting. Front staff were very helpful and friendly. Overall a good week and worth a visit.
