The hotel is located in the heart of Venice, two minutes walking distance from St Mark's Square and shopping and cultural area.
"ex convent, offshore, spacious accomodation views of canal & gardens"
enjoyable autumn retreat, spacious breakfast restaurant, lounge areas, gardens. Certainly a worthy choice while staying in Venice. Boating - Canal, to & from San Marcos (directly across Canal) and go to Burano count on meal & transport 100 Euros
"Mellow and elegant"
Our first visit to the Bauer was enhanced by an unexpected early check in facility which was most welcome. Occasionally, one does rather get the impression that hotels, even five star hotels, delay check in/ are stingy about late check out unnecessarily. There was no fuss here - an early check in and a suite upgrade were offered courteously and without fuss. This is a traditional Venetian hotel but comfortable and well appointed. The corridors remind me of a hospital or other institution but an excess of marble can do that. Our suite overlooking the Grand Canal was a little noisy but this is to be expected from weekend waterway travellers carousing in the early hours. It was not the fault of the hotel. The staff are truly charming. Italians do charm so well - not obsequious- not familiar, just charm! We had only two issues. The wifi internet in our suite was pretty dreadful but seemed to work well in public areas. The second issue was the bar between the Bauer and the Palazzo which is a corridor between the two hotels and is not, in our view, a pleasant place to sit. This is a shame because when we wanted to have a light meal in the hotel in a rainy evening, this was the only location available. We quickly determined that room service was a better option ( and, happily, the room service was prompt and tasty). It is hard to beat the location of the Palazzo and the service is memorable. Prices are relatively high but this is the norm for Venice and we got used to ten euro cups of coffee! We will return and would recommend - I should add that the Bauer itself in its 40s style is not for me but the Palazzo wing where we stayed is the better choice - a personal preference.
"Fabulous Hotel in a Terrific Location"
My husband and I have stayed at the Bauer before but not in Il Palazzo. The rooms was terrific, very large with a view of the side canal and grand canal. The bathroom was huge! It was really a wonderful experience to be woken up each morning by the gondoliers singing on the side canal. Breakfast was free and eaten outdoors on the canal which was fabulous! The hotel location is near everything. Worth the money to stay in this hotel!
"Beautiful and First class service"
We visited this Hotel and had a delightful time. It was a special occasion for my wife. Drinks on the Roof terrace were a delight with spectacular views. We decided to have dinner on the terrace. It was a truly delightful experience enhanced by the waiter Matteo. In actual fact the food ambiance and the waiter Matteo made it a very enjoyable experience the second evening as well. Our room was beautiful and we also had a terrace to sit out on to. Breakfast was also a high standard. Please be careful that the carrier you chose does not suggest the new part of the hotel the 'Casa Nova suites' it is not new. But separate to the hotel and does share the quality or ambiance the hotel so richly enjoys. Please be warned otherwise you will end up being very upset with your carrier and this will not live up to your expectations. This is not the fault of the hotel but the lack clarity by the tour operator. We would go back tomorrow! We fully recommend the Hotel as five star luxury. One other recommendation make sure when you up grade to a water taxi it starts from the Airport Marco Polo and ends at your destination and that you are not driven all the way with a 5 minute water taxi to the destination at the end. Make sure this is written and very explicit. Again it may not meet your expectation. Be warned.
We had a wonderful stay at Bauer Palazzo with wonderful views of the Grand Canal and so close to San Marco. The buffet breakfast was 1st class and the room we stayed in was fantastic. All the staff were very friendly and helpful which made for a truly memorable trip in Venice. If you want to treat someone special this is the place to come.
