I cant say enough good things about this hotel..the staff is so nice and L'Occitane bath products. The location is fantastic and the rooms feel fresh and clean. I hadn't been here since 2014 but got a nice note thanking me for my return visit, and a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries..
"Beautifully appointed "
The Belmont is a gem. Beautifully appointed with a super friendly staff. Very luxurious. Turndown service on room added a nice touch. Was very impressed with the fresh flowers in the lobby. Every thing here is top notch.
"I really want to say 5 stars - but can't"
Overall the Charleston Place is a wonderful place to stay as you explore the heart of historic Charleston. But, there was one critical miss which prevents me from saying it was an excellent stay. First, the positives. The hotel and room is very nice. The room is beautiful and, with one major exception, very comfortable and large. The lobby and public areas are very nice. We were staying just prior to Christmas and the decorations, especially the LARGE Christmas train, put you in the spirit. Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is also excellent - you can walk all over the historic and shopping areas of Charleston easily. Getting in and out by car to explore the wider area is also very easy. Now the exception - the bed was not comfortable. Somehow, in their recent renovation, they seemed to have missed the trend of upgrading the bed and bedding. It isn't that it was just wasn't great, it was uncomfortable - you could feel the springs on the side of the bed. We complained and were told all the beds are the same so we asked if they could add some sort of padding (like a comforter or thicker mattress padding) to the bed which they did - but it took 2 calls to request for it to actually happen. This points out another minor annoyance - housekeeping was a little hit or miss. It always happened (at wildly different times of the day; one day very late in the afternoon) but there were little misses - toilet lid left up, not updating the shower amenities, etc. I would really like to say I would be back since most of the Charleston Place experience as good but my wife isn't going to return until they do something about the uncomfortable bed situation.
"Great place, great location"
The hotel was a great place to stay. Great location, nice rooms and I booked through TripAdvisor and got a great price (about half off). They let us check in early and the concierge was very helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
"Fantastic if you can expense it"
I did not pay for my stay here (my client did), so -it's easier to praise when money is no concern. Now I stay at luxury hotels every week for work (Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, etc). The Belmond was absolutely fantastic. From the beautiful pool, sun drenched under a veranda, the elegant rooms with lavish bathrooms, the excellent location and room service which accommodated my request for a diet friendly meal, everything was perfect. Truly a gem.
