"Attention to detail was amazing"
My stay at the Charleston Place can be summed up in one word, first class. We stayed on the seventh floor which is the club level and the amenities speak for themselves. Complimentary continental breakfast every morning starting at 6:30 AM till 10:30 AM. Cocktails, coffee, and tea served between 11 AM and 2 PM. After 3 PM it was free drinks, appetizers and desert till 11 PM. The club level staff was exceptional in making sure all of our wants were met. Shout out to Dan and Amanda - thank you for everything! Every night guaranteed us with a turn down service which I thought was a great touch. Side note: the room was exceptionally clean. Housekeeping did a phenomenal job on the room & bathroom.
I came on a girls' trip to Charleston. The staff was unfailingly friendly and courteous. The facility and room was beautiful. We paid extra for the club level and it was worth every penny. Breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour (with open bar) and dessert were included and the food and service were terrific. We ate appetizers at the Thoroughbred club the first night because we arrived late, and were not disappointed. I highly recommend the short rib grilled cheese and the lobster roll. The Palmetto Grill is only open for lunch and breakfast but worth making the effort. We ate a lobster roll and crab brioche sandwich incredible. We had a late night snack at Meeting at Market Pub that was delicious. Every place we went to eat had impeccable service, just like the hotel staff. I will definitely return one day.
"Best hotel staff anywhere you may travel!!"
Charleston Place is beautiful!! All the amenities you could need!! You really don't need to leave the hotel other than for the activities that the City of Charleston offers!!!!! The hotel staff are fantastic!!! AND they are a pet friendly hotel!!
"First class stay"
I visited the hotel with my mother in law for a girls weekend. Everyone from the front desk to the turn down service was so accommodating and friendly! You are met when you walk in with a grand chandelier and a double staircase, which sets the tone for the entire hotel. All luxe! The breakfast at the Palmetto Cafe is not to be missed. Great experience, would recommend to friends!
We just returned yesterday from 2 nights at the Belmond Charleston Place Hotel. A large number of our family were at the hotel for the Citadel homecoming weekend for families. The Belmond is in a great location, tucked back in the middle of the heart of downtown Charleston. The good: Location is fabulous. The Charleston grill is a very good Resteraunt. The hotel is lovely with nice sized rooms, attentive staff, a beautiful heated salt water roof top pool, fantastic stores and beautifully decorated. The not-so-good: This was the first night- The fitted sheet on my daughters bed had had a large X shaped tear about 1/2 way down the sheet. It was frayed so it looked like it was just old wear but this was a LARGE tear ( approx 6"x6" ). I called down to the desk to which they said a sheet would be sent up. Which it was... handed to me. Now, I am not a pampered woman who does not ever change her own sheets but this is an expensive hotel that prides itself on its service. To be handed a sheet so that I had to strip the whole bed and re-make it was annoying after a long day of travel. Another issue was when I checked into the hotel my room was very warm. I set the air conditioner to 65 and went to dinner. When we returned the room was still hot and it was obvious that while the fan worked, the air conditioner did not. I called the front desk and they sent a hotel engineer up shortly. He was able to take the ceiling panels off and after about 20 minutes, fix the air conditioner. He was very nice and apologetic and had the desk send up a fan to help. Finally, The check- in was confused about our reservations. We had a number of rooms for our family and for some reason this took quite some time for the desk to figure out. One family member did not come in until late that night and the desk was made aware she would be arriving later in the night ( the desk had her name ). When she arrived at 2:30am the front desk staff insisted on calling a member of our party to make sure she was a part of our party. The desk wanted to call my parents- they are in their 80's! My sister insisted they call me if they felt they needed to call anyone. Being woken at 2:30am was very startling, my 10 year old was woken too. The front desk clerk launched right into the 'problem' and it took me a few minutes to figure out what he was talking about. I finally was able to get him to the point and assured him, yes, she was a member of our party 😣. I was unable to get back to sleep for quite some time. When I checked in I was never asked for my drivers license or ID so I could have been anyone- the hotel knew that there was an unclaimed hotel room in our party but at 2:30 am is when they decided on an excess of caution' Lastly, the Cafe', where we had one breakfast and a lunch. Both times the Cafe' was fairly empty but both times it took excessive time to get seated ( we were asked to have a seat in the hall while they set our tables ). Yes, our party included 4 children and 5 adults but watching through the glass windows it was obvious the staff was not too concerned with setting up the tables with any haste. Truly, no less than 15 minutes. It wouldn't have been annoying if the staff was busy but there were 3 waiters and a bar person standing around, chatting. This continued through our meal with long waits before we were served drinks and then waiting for our meals. At one point my father, who is usually fairly laid back about such things, got up and approached a staff member to ask if they forgot about us. The buffet breakfast the second day, obviously, didn't have the serving problem the waiter was quite nice. Little things but they distract from the experience- I missed there not being a coffee station in the room- I don't think I have ever been in a hotel over 3 stars that did not have one in the room. There was no ice machine even close to my room ( a different floor and a fairly long walk from the elevator ) which was quite inconvenient. We were approached frequently to buy sea grass 'roses' by men who would come through the hotel common areas. This was frequent enough to be disruptive. I am not sure what the hotel management can do about that but it would be a good idea to dissuade that. For the most part the staff was very pleasant and attentive. There are plenty of towels in the bathroom and a nice shower with good water pressure. The room was clean and smelled fresh. Room service was fine. The common areas are pretty and well maintained.
