This is a very nice and peaceful colonial hotel not far from the center of the town. The pick-up service is professionally organized. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with balcony facing the swimming pool which was the best part of the hotel. So green and incorporated in nature that it seemed like the part of the jungle. The food at the pool and at breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent. Breakfast is served inside and outside and although the hotel was full we received all our meals very fast. We had no complaints what so ever. We didn’t have time to try the SPA, but we’ve used the gym which was small, but well equipped. The hotel is 10 minute walk from the center of the town, but there are always a lot of tuk-tuks parked in front of it, so if you don’t feel like walking, you can drive to the center for not more than 2USD.
"Great place to relax after the temples"
Fantastic pool for cooling down and swimming; albeit sometimes a struggle to get a sun bed. Breakfast good, staff great, lunch was good. Drinks well priced for 5* hotel. Rooms (jnr suite) well appointed, huge bathroom, lots of hanging space. Hotel organised car and guide for the temples (Mr Meun) was excellent. Would recommend. Invited to two GMs drinks whilst there but did not attend. Nicely presented hotel, a modern interpretation of the tradtional Cambodia wooden houses. Very peaceful. I like the way they incorporated the ancient Angkor architecture into the hotel pool area.
"Pretty and comfortable"
I stayed here two nights, Jan 12&13 kind of a last minute detour. I'd recommend staying longer and nit trying to do too many of the sites and yours in one day like I did. To be honest it was way too overwhelming with the massive beauty and historical overload around every corner. Back to the hotel though. It's stunning and has an authentic feel, it's on the small side, so it's all in what you want. The service is okay, they try and everyone is extremely friendly. We were picked up at the airport and given a bottle of water and a cold towel which was very nice the driver spoke fairly good English and was extremely friendly. Check in was easy and seamless . The rooms are comfortable a little on the small side but the bathrooms are beautiful and the shower has a feel of an indoor outdoor shower which I liked . The food is just OK - it is difficult if not impossible to get someone to serve you a drink by the pool. The pool is gorgeous but it's not for laying out because the majority is in the shade and there are very few lounge chairs it's one of those places you basically have to hope someone leaves so you can throw your towel down - it's very close to town and very close to some of the famous sites . We were able to arrange a private tour for a couple hundred dollars I think it's well worth it if you'd like to have a little more privacy . I would also suggest because there are so many tourists , i'm talking busloads and busloads of loud abonixous oblivious tourists, I would suggest getting up at the crack of dawn and being at the site you'd like to see before it opens so you can be first in if I had to do it all over again I would absolutely be there first . It's is some how not the same to see sacred Temple's and places of worship while you have busloads of inappropriate people climbing the walls of these temples and speaking loudly even though you were told to keep hush tones and to not climb -
Belmond, once again, did not disappoint. La Residence d'Angkor provides that type of understated luxury that may not be appreciated by some. Service is super friendly but not invasive. Room are beautiful, but not overwhelming. We truly enjoyed our time there.
"The second of 4 stops "
Probably the least impressive of our 4 stops of Saigon,Siem Reap, Koh Samui & Hong Kong . An oasis of peace, beauty & tranquility amongst some very primitive surroundings in Siem Reap - that's as good as it gets. The hotel proposition does not however match the property and most notably needs investment & renewal. The rooms are OK albeit not great (wooden floor was not very clean); the food is poor to say the least ; the gym is pitiful & general service standards are amateur. Senior management was nowhere to be seen which given a 4 night stay in 3 rooms over the all expensive Christmas period was particularly disappointing. Interestingly, in all other properties visited, the GM met us on arrival & saw us off on departure. As a family of 5 ,when touring all day in a relatively primitive location and staying in a hotel of this standing, one would expect to be able to look forward to returning in the evening to some outstanding International cuisine. We ate in the Hotel on at least 4 occasions & almost each & every one was a disappointment . All in all I sense the hotel is trading on its name & needs to focus on the small nuances between good & great.
