Stayed for the second time recently and was very glad to be back. Anywhere warm coming from cold and wet Britain in March would be nice but the Nellie is a world apart. It can't compete with the most recent additions to the Cape Town hotel scene on the Waterfront if you like your hotels modern and with some bling. However, if you like your hotels traditional with historical patina and charm in extensive gardens then this is hard to beat. Beautiful building/rooms/pool/grounds. Warm/helpful staff. Great breakfast/afternoon tea/room service menu. Great staff in the kids club. Good wifi, free parking. My only proviso is that we were there just before the Easter rush. The hotel was relatively quiet and we had the pool to ourselves for much of the time. When the hotel is full as it was the last time we were there breakfast and the pool area can be pretty raucous which our kids probably prefer but it's not everyone's cup of tea.
"A new favorite"
After my 4-night stay here, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Cape Town. Very British in feel. The staff is excellent. The expansive grounds have lots of outdoor seating options and are beautiful. The pool that we used outside of the breakfast area was quiet and relaxing. Our room (517) was the most spacious room I've ever stayed in (complete with separate reading area closed off by French doors). Both the shower and bath are great. We didn't try the famed High Tea, but breakfast every morning was a consistently high-quality buffet. The spa is also very nice (my wife and I each had massages). As for location, I loved that it wasn't at the waterfront but that waterfront access was an easy and quick drive away. You're also steps away from some good restaurants on Kloof. We noticed, too, that the hotel appeared very kid friendly, which can be unusual for such a high end property.
What a lovely, charming hotel! We loved every moment here: from checking in, high tea (amazing, couldn't manage to taste everything!), breakfast. Our room was perfect, tastefully decorated, comfortable bed and with all the amenities you could need. Had dinner twice at Planet and loved the food, wine and service. Actually, what makes MN better than other hotels in Cape Town is service: very attentive and friendly. It was an unforgettable stay and will be back!
"Coffee and criosant on the terrace"
Brunch visit to the Hotel worm farm and herb garden had Coffee on the terrace served with excellence that is the Nellie's reputation. great attention to detail complimentary smacks was sublime service was on point defiantly popping in for the high tea soon
Visited the Mount Nelson for Evening Tea which was splendid but beware you get masses of food, but what you do not eat you can take away with you. Great setting on the Tea Terrace and the service was brilliant.
