of TripAdvisor Travelers recommend this hotel
I was honestly apprehensive when booking this property as by the pictures it seemed different then what I am used to when traveling. I was pleasantly surprised and this hotel exceeded my expectations! The front desk was warm and welcoming. The housekeeping team was pleasant and the bartenders were fun and friendly. Breakfast was lovely and high tea was incredible! Such a fun experience. Make sure you have a reservation! I really can't think of anything negative to say about this property or my experience. Some people who visit Cape Town want to stay by the water as I did also but I am so glad we chose Belmond Mount Nelson. I actually preferred the location over being by the water. It was too busy and congested down there and Belmond was a breath of fresh air! Thank you for a wonderful four days! If I ever have the opportunity to stay in Cape Town again I will definitely choose Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel!
"Beautiful Stay in the Grand Dame of Cape Hospitality"
There is no doubt in my experience that staying at the Mount Nelson should be a bucket list item for anyone who loves travel and exploration. You are enveloped in old world charm and ambiance the moment you drive through the beautiful formal entrance and that is where the magic begins. The valet team, porters and front desk staff are superbly trained and professionally attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them. Our suite was beautifully decorated and maintained and our view of Table mountain, awe inspiring. Breakfast and lunch in the Oasis is a real treat, with items from fresh oysters to an incredible artisan bread selection and so much more. The gardens are glorious and the high tea a cannot miss. There is also a beautiful little boutique store, called Christoff, in the hotel run by Anne Trip whose wares you will salivate over. Just buy something! We did. We were there for 5 nights for a family wedding and we left, thoroughly spoiled and looking forward to another visit. A special shout out to Ashley at the front desk and to the super human Elcke who made everything so special. Thank you to your whole team. Bravo!
We heard about hi tea at this hotel from our hop on hop off bus tours. They said it had been rated as one of the best hi tea in the world, we beg to differ. We went there for hi tea and It was below expectation for a hotel of this standard. Nothing special. The service lack attention to detail. The Scone was a bit stodgy! Very disappointing.
This is a must do. Afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson--you must pre-book. The hotel has lovely grounds to wander through before and after tea. Dress smartly, shorts are allowed but it is nice to get the slacks and white shirt out of case . You are superbly attended to when escorted to your table.Tea is delivered and "prepared" by your attendant--Glass teapot into which they soak your tea leaves --saying they will return in 5 minutes to complete the tea making process. Sandwiches , pasties, assorted meat accompaniments arrive and later scones too plus you may go to the large table indoors to select your cakes. Refills of tea/coffee or alcoholic drinks readily available too. It is a wonderful experience and very good value especially if you are , like me in from the UK, due to good exchange rate.
"Excellent hotel, some minor issues but still top notch"
Historic Cape Town hotel is still one of the best, despite competition from hotels in the Waterfront area. The room was very spacious and well equipped. Beautiful gardens and I loved the way the life inside the hotel spilled out into tthe gardens. I found the staff at Reception aloof, arrogant, and not very efficient, whereas most of the other staff members (waiters, cleaners etc) were very friendly.
