"Nice stay in Stockholm"
We stayed at the Berns for 3 nights, over a long weekend break in Stockholm. Overall we had a good stay- the rooms were contemporary, clean, great club and bar/restaurant on site. I'd probably consider stay in the Old Town next time - which will most likely be more expensive. Only downside for us, was that the rooms were on the small size and a little pricey - but this seems consistent across Stockholm, and given we were only there for a few days it wasn't a problem.
The service at the hotel was excellent! The room was small but more than adequate and comfortable. Heat warmer for the towels was a nice perk! Great central location - close to the harbor to catch a boat tour, walking distance to Old Town and other parts of the city. Would stay there again.
"Great Location, Hotel Needs Help."
The common public spaces of the hotel are gorgeous. Very old world and elegant. The location is great too. I feel like they are confused about what this place really is. They don't operate or work like a professional hotel but more like an event venue. The service was very spotty. The rooms are very small and basic for a "luxury" hotel and prices. No basic amenities in the room such as converters, iron, etc but you can call for it. The bathroom smelled like a backed up sewer system and overall the entire room needs to be refurbished and upgraded. It took 304 very strong pushes of the flush to actually get it to work. The heated towel rack was a nice touch. We had a balcony which was a nice touch but the room is small and not luxurious at all. Tried to use the gym only to find it closed after dragging myself out of bed at 7 am. Guests should be notified of construction etc unless its an emergency before hand so you don't waste your time and lose sleep. The restaurant where breakfast is served is lovely and turns into a nice Asian restaurant and lounge in the eventing, The surrounding area has very nice shops, cafes and a nice walk to the trendy old town of Gamla Stan and the Royal Palace. I would recommend staying in this area and visiting the hotel for a drink at the bar downstairs but save your money and don't stay here.
"Nice room and fantastic brunch"
When you stay here you must have in mind that they have a nightclub in the same building. It's no problem if you ask for a room on the 4th floor, 401-409. The breakfast is very good and the brunch they serve at Asiatiska during weekends is fantastic for 395 sek. Very good location very close to both shopping and the Royal Castle etc. etc.
"Lots of pros + and cons - on this one"
We visited Hotel Berns in Stockholm in January. After checking through multiple hotels we ended up choosing this as it had an interesting history and we wanted to try something else than just something basic and safe. Plus I was interested to see how it was as the hotel had been chosen as the best boutique hotel in Stockholm. Still it was not that high in Tripadvisor's list, at place 62 of all the hotels in Stockholm. I did not get how this combination could be but now I do. Pros + A hotel with a history, there is a hard cover book (in Swedish but with pics) in the room showing how the place has developed + Possibility to upgrade the room at check-in for a reasonable price. So do ask for options, if rooms are available. + LOCATION. Right in the center but still a lovely park in front of the hotel. + Good restaurants (also a con as they can be really full) + Funny party music in the elevators, not your usual lame laadidaa-music. + Great breakfast + Lovely dining and party halls - do walk around the little corridors to see the whole place. + Absolutely lovely view to the park and city, especially from the upper floors + Deluxe room 608 had a great balcony, I can only imagine how good this is during summer! + Great bed + Spacious room (we had Deluxe with balcony) + Good bathroom, bathtub was also nice. It is not in all the rooms but I guess in most of them' + Cheeky hotel, with moderately sexy book in the room. I guess these vary from room to room but we thought it is a fun idea. + If you are a party goer, this is a hotel for you! And if you book your room through their web site you should get a ticket to other popular clubs in Stockholm also. Shame we did not use this possibility but maybe other time. + A possibility to use a spa close by, that's where the swimming pool is + Gym + Room service delivered good food from the hotel's bistro + Reasonable prices for rooms with breakfest (reservations made through hotel's own site), compared to some other high end hotels in Stockholm Cons - It is a club. A popular one, so: - You will hear noice, especially bass, even if your room is in the 6th floor. Do check how active the hotel's nightlife program is during your stay if you are looking to relax. - Room service might forget to bring you forks and knives when ordering food and it can take a while to wait for them. They said those were supposed to be in the room but nope, there was none. - Parts of the hotel seem quite used, like the elevators. But it can also feel charming. - Room cleaning is not that great. There were dirty coffee cups on the balcony and used cigarettes all over the balcony floor. - Room cleaning also forgot to check and clean the bathroom before we arrived. There were used soap bottles etc in the bathroom. Also only one coffee capsule... All this was fixed after a phone call though. - The room service menu showed that there was a delivery fee during the late hours (Night menu). We ordered food earlier but still ended up paying the fee. The menu is either badly made in this sense, or even they don't know when to charge for the delivery and when not to. - No tea in the room. You will have to ask the kitchen (') for these. - The tea on breakfast is quite mild but smells like perfume. Tested two qualities. But this is a matter of taste, still got the sense this is a hotel for coffee drinkers, not tea. - Restaurant is crowded or full during brunch, not sure about other times but it is mentioned in their info that you should come there with a table booked. - Hassle in the check-out. We payed the room service as we left BUT they made an extra charge from my card, claiming that we took a champagne bottle and an extra water. We did not. I got my money back quickly after a phone call but still. - Read the labels on the water bottles on the room tables. First one is free, but not the second one offered. We bought our own, but was still charged for a water bottle. Again, got the money back after a phone call. I would and will propably visit again, but for a party trip, not for family trip and not to relax.
