"From Very Good to Excellent"
I stayed here with my partner last October and we had a lovely time, just one minor niggle on my last review ! In December I made a booking for a family member and their 5 month old baby. This was a special treat I liaised with Fredrique at the hotel directly and the customer service was fantastic My niece had a great time, there was an upgrade to a bigger room, a cot provided and they were well looked after Thank you
"A Jewel among gems"
After a recent visit to Dean Court York I wanted to express my thanks to the team that made this short stay very memorable. This was my second visit to York, albeit 24 years apart, so the ideal positioning of the hotel provided the perfect base to explore this mysterious city, admire historical architecture along with York's friendly and charming atmosphere. A special mention must be made to Miss Sandu (F&B Assistant Manager.) Her generous smile and refreshing company was a welcoming start to each day. Her team were attentive and ensured all needs were met. The breakfast menu prepared by the kitchen was simple but effective and very enjoyable. Restaurant Tip: For a picture postcard spot overlooking the tremendous York Minster, try the far left corner window seat with the days paper and coffee. Perfect table to view this architectural splendour at sunrise. It was my personal daily experience. I would be remiss if I did not point out a few maintenance issues. As a finishing carpenter I take pride in the details and the finished product. Unfortunately baseboards, doors, architraves etc. in room 30 as well as the passage from the elevator require attention, updating and replacing. The timber floor should be inspected and reinforced. The floorboards squeak throughout the room and were annoying, it must be pretty unbearable for the occupants in the room below. A damp patch at the far right ceiling above the window requires investigation and repairing. The hot water tap, basin, requires more than 2 full turns before water flows and it's likely the valve or cartridge needs replacing. A shelf or 2 in the wardrobe for folded clothes would also be helpful. Apart from this the room was well appointed, cleanliness was excellent throughout, furnishings were adequate for a short stay and the bed was absolutely perfect. As a permanent resident of the UK I’m looking forward to my next visit to your hotel; confident that I will be met with the same warm welcome and professionalism that I have experienced. David Gore
We stayed here for two nights and could not have been happier with our choice. Key to our choice was the availability of parking because we are driving around England. While there is a considerable cost for parking, the convenience of valet parking far outweighed the cost. A view of the magnificent York Minster from our window was a bonus. While not huge, the room was spacious enough, tastefully decorated and comfortable. All of the sights are within walking distance. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York.
"Absolutely fantastic! "
I booked this hotel through the best western website with the special offer for b&b and it was absolutely excellent! We were upgraded free of charge and when we decided to stay an extra night it was no problem at all. The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff were extremely helpful, professional and nothing was a problem - even a midnight snack! We were so impressed and grateful the hotel were so accommodating and made our stay so good. The breakfast was brilliant and we were seated next to the window with an incredible view of the Minster while we ate. The valet parking is so convenient and would definitely recommend. Overall the experience we had here was second to none, especially such amazing service from the staff - a credit to the hotel. Perhaps the only negative would be the slight shabbiness of some very minor areas of paintwork - but I only mention this as I feel I should try to be balanced in my review but really it was superficial and in no way impacted our stay. I would 100% stay here again and will recommend to my friends. Thanks Dean Court hotel! We had a great time!!
"location first class, disappointing meal"
We booked for the Gala dinner on New Years eve a table for four and found ourselves on a table for eight, not really a problem as while strangers to us they were good company. The hotel location could not be bettered directly across from the Minster where all the crowds gather to hear the bells at midnight making for a lovely atmosphere. The staff were first class being helpful and attentive. The only disappointing part of our Gala dinner was the main course, the lamb (if it was lamb) was uneatable being very tough and grisly, I thought at first it was only my meal but chatting to other guests later it seems everyone had the same experience of a poorly prepared main course, shame really as the rest of the evening and the other courses were fine.
