Excellent position across from York minster and in walking distance of all the main sights of York. Our room at the back was quiet and a good size, though very warm. Staff very helpful. Breakfast good, again pleasant, helpful staff.
Yet again another lovely stay at Dean Court, the room was fantastic, overlooking the Minster, service was exceptional, especially Frank he was wonderful and couldn't do enough to help, breakfast was excellent as usual, we will definitely becoming back Thank you for a lovely break.
We stayed here for a joint celebration of my 60th birthday and our anniversary, between the 7th and 10th of March and it was a fabulous choice made by my wife. The hotel is located directly opposite the Minster (don't worry, the bells don't chime all night) and has valet parking available for a nightly charge. We were greeted very warmly and the on-duty manager took our luggage, gave us a brief introductory tour, then showed us to our room (No.,36) on the third (top) floor. It was spacious, extremely clean and very well apportioned with above average tea/coffee making facilities, also a large bright, well decorated bathroom and a large bed of two singles fixed together. We ate out on our first evening so breakfast was our first meal in the hotel restaurant on the morning of my birthday. As we waited to be shown to our table my wife pointed out a printed info sheet at the desk. It had the weather forecast, a "did you know" fact and at the bottom was a birthday wish from the staff which made me feel really special. There was a smaller version on every table in the restaurant. We were greeted by the waiter, Ronnie, who wished me Happy Birthday, as did the rest of the staff and he took our order. While waiting for our food, the same on-duty manager came to wish me Happy Birthday and also gave me a birthday card and a box of complimentary fudge. A wonderful gesture and very much appreciated. After breakfast we left the hotel to look around the Minster and had another small surprise when we got back to the room. The cleaning staff had left a bar of rich chocolate near the tea facilities. Another great gesture. We were dining in that evening so got ready and went down to the bar where again I received birthday greetings. After a pre-dinner drink we were shown to our table, once more greeted by the evening dining room staff with birthday wishes. My son and his girlfriend arrived which was a great and welcome surprise as I knew nothing about them coming (planned by my wife and son in secret). We ordered dinner which didn't take an age arriving and enjoyed a lovely two course meal with no room for desert. The food was exquisite, the sauce for each meal complimented the dish and in short we really enjoyed our evening. Next morning, once again we were warmly greeted by the dining room staff, enjoyed a wonderful breakfast and left to visit Scarborough on a blustery but bright day. In summary, the hotel was fantastic, if you get chance and can afford it for a special occasion it is well recommended. The rooms are great, the valet parking is a bonus, just give the staff 15 minutes notice. The entire staff made our visit and celebrations totally wonderful and memorable and we would like to thank all the management and staff at the Dene Court Hotel very much for such a marvellous time.
"Superb location, friendly, can't imagine better place to stay in York"
First, of course, the location can't be improved on. An easy 10-minute walk from the York rail station, and directly across from York Minster. You can walk almost anywhere from here, including the National Railway Museum. There are also car-rental offices near the rail station. The staff is extraordinarily friendly, and helped carrying/navigating our luggage both coming and going. We had a lovely, recently renovated (early 2017) first-floor room looking directly at the facade of the Minster, with a window seat so you can spend as much time as you want looking at it day and night. (There's a large tree that may interfere with this a bit once spring comes and it leafs out. See photo.) We didn't use the restaurant for breakfast or meals so can't comment on it. There's also a small bar in the lobby if you want a nightcap.
"Nice hotel: Outstanding Quality of Service"
I stayed here midweek needing a quiet room to work on an assignment. It really is an excellent hotel. It is right in the heart of York's central area and some rooms look out over the Minster. Within a few steps you are in the the heart of the Medieval city with its bustling pedestrianised area and abundance of cafés etc. The railway station is less than ten minutes walk away and there is a taxi rank opposite the hotel. My room was charming with a view of the Minster. Two aspects stood out. Firstly, the quality of service from all the staff was impeccable. They were all friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. When I arrived, the duty manager personally showed me a couple of rooms to make sure I got the one that best suited my requirements. Secondly, the food was excellent and accompanied by excellent service too. The smoked haddock and poached egg at breakfast were the best I have ever eaten. I was impressed by this hotel and as a regular visitor to York will definitlely use this hotel again.
