"Nice stay but not out of this world"
This hotel was nice, it was done out modern, rooms were nice and clean. The staff were nice enough but there was nothing to impressive about the hotel. We checked in and didn't really see anyone until we checked out. No really complaints but also nothing to praise about.
"Well located place "
The Bilderberg Garden Hotel is well located if you want to explore Amsterdam. Not very impressive from the outside but a nice and warm service with an relaxed atmosphere and comfortable rooms. I stayed here for two nights and I would definitely consider the place again for the next trip to Amsterdam.
"Nice hotel but the valet had an accident with my car and I still haven't been reimbursed the damage after 4 months"
The hotel is nice but has no parking. The only option is to leave your car and the keys with a valet who feeds the parking meter. For some reasons they had to move my car and had an accident. The hotel apologized. Assured me that they would take car of everything. I gave them the information they request and after 4 months I still haven't been paid for the damage. I emailed and called a few time. Very polite staff is assuring me that someone will get back to me. I'm still waiting.
"Left slightly underwhelmed"
Needing a hotel in Amsterdam at short notice, I attempted to book the sister hotel Bilderberg Jan Luyken where I had previously enjoyed a weekend visit. With no availability I opted for an executive room at the Garden Hotel and was interested to see how they compared. First the obvious fact that this hotel is further out from the city centre, means either a 5-10 minute walk to the Number 5 tram stop on Beethovenstraat or a 30 minute walk through the pleasant neighbourhood and Vondelpark to reach the southern end of Leidsestraat. Guess it depends on if you want the exercise and the weather! The executive room - Comfortable bed, very clean, quiet (on the residential street side), free mini bar in a fridge which did not work and generally well appointed BUT the aircon! With the large picture windows (which don't open) allowing sunlight to beat into the room even in May, one needs the option of a serviceable aircon system. Despite my best efforts to adjust the console I could not cool the room down, resulting in 3 very warm, stuffy, sleepless nights. More disappointing was the fact that I approached reception staff on 3 occasions to have it checked out only to be told it was a new system and that was as good as it gets, surely not in a 5 star establishment!!! Breakfast - On our first morning we opted to eat in, until acquainting ourselves with the neighbourhood. Not cheap at 19 euros when pre-booked (even more if not) and was expecting a hearty spread, only to be disappointed with a very limited choice of cold and hot dishes made worse by having to ask staff if the empty bacon and ham servers were to be replenished and being presented with tea/coffee which was most definitely not freshly made. Other cafe / coffee shops are available 5 -10 minutes away. Add on a confusing billing system where 50 euros deposit per night is added to the credit card authorisation at check in, to be deducted on check out and you have a recipe for lots of confused guests at reception querying their bills. For a 5 star hotel I was expecting a stay with fewer issues and got the impression it was aimed at the corporate market where appearance is everything and the finer points important to the independent tourist were less important. For that reason I personally will be staying at the more boutique style Jan Luyken when next in town.
"Comfortable bed, quiet room are conducive to restful sleep after touring most of the day."
The hotel room is spacious with comfortable bed and quiet environment. The toiletries it provided were high end, L'Occutane products. I did find it difficult to get the hang of the thermostat control, partly because I'm not used to using Celsius measurement. The hotel has a turn down service also. The bar in the lobby offers tasty & good food; the restaurant in the lobby is a Japanese fusion tapa style restaurant, pricy but very good. The location is in a nice residential area, grocery store and restaurants are within easy walking distance though.
