"Hotel is quiet and nice, but front desk staff extremely disorganized, unhelpful"
No idea how a hotel of this level continues to survive under this kind of management. The front desk supervisor Joey Donker, must be the densest person I have ever met. I book ahead for a double room with two beds. On check-in, we reiterate that two beds are required in the double room. The front desk manager gives me a key and sends us upstairs with luggage, whereupon we arrive in a room with one single (not even double) bed. Back downstairs we explain the problem. He fixes it and gives us another room. Next morning, we go back downstairs to ask him to turn on the sauna. We wait an hour for it to heat up while we workout. The sauna never heats up. We go back to reception ask him if he turned it on: oh, no he says, I forgot and will do it now. We wait another hour. Nothing happens. Meanwhile the cleaning staff knock on our door not once but four times: first to ask if we want the room cleaned, which we don't. I point to the 'do not disturb sign' on the door and the woman leaves. Shortly thereafter, there is another knock asking if our room has beeen cleaned. I point once again to the sign on the door and state that we do not need our room cleaned. Apparently this is the cleaning manager checking if the rooms have been cleaned. But then not more than a half hour later, another staff member - oblivious to the first two - comes along and wants to clean our room. But first she has to check to see if we have taken anything out of the minibar. I say: we don't checkout until tomorrow! And she says, those are my instructions. After this, a final woman comes by to see if we still want our room cleaned. At this point we politely state we like our privacy as I need to finish making business calls. I could tell similar stories about the breakfast staff. If this is the standard of a 4* hotel in Rotterdam, I hate to concur with the other reviewers who would say there is something wrong here with the management.
We thee have used the Park Hotel twice now and it wont bet of a mix i the last. The hotel is a mix of three buildings form outside but inside you would never know. The desk staff are very helpful and friendly as were all of the staff. There is a Metro station just outside the hotel, which is useful if you need to go further afield. The car park is to the rear of the hotel through a passage in front of hotel. Breakfast was very busy due to a coach party leaving early but the staff were filling up with food constantly. Well worth a visit.
"Disappointing hotel with poor service"
I visit the Netherlands often for short breaks and the hotels are usually of a good standard. I thought this one would be too from some of the reviews I saw on Tripadvisor but I was wrong. When I arrived reception thought that I was just staying one night when in fact I had booked for three nights. Luckily I had remembered to bring the agent's voucher with this information on it. The receptionist rang the agent and confirmed that it was three nights but offered no apology for their mistake. The next day I came back to my room and my key card would not work - they had obviously forgotten to activate it for three days instead of one - so I had to go back to reception to get it sorted. When I got back to my room I got a phone call from the head receptionist telling me that there seemed to be a problem with my booking as they had only got me down for one night. Trying not to sound too annoyed, I explained that I thought all this had been cleared up the day before. Then the next day when I came back to my room my key card would not work again meaning another trip back to reception! The minibar in my room was locked and there was no key. I asked at reception about this and was told that there should be a key in the room. I said I would look again later, which I did, and could not find a key anywhere. So I went back to reception and they were looking in drawers trying to find a spare key. Then I was told that they couldn't give me a key then but they would bring one to the room later. Much later the same lady came to the room with a key but said that it was only a spare key and had to go back to reception - would I like her to open the minibar now' I said yes please and she opened it and left the door open. Thinking that it would stay unlocked now, I decided not to have a drink just then and shut the door which promptly locked again. Exasperated, I went out that evening searching for a supermarket which seemed to have disappeared, then eventually found an off-licence store where I stocked up with my own drinks. On the last day I got flea bites all over my hands. I don't know how but I know that the hotel allows pets so it seems a bit suspicious! Even the decor is drab and boring. The reception area is stuck in the 1970s and the open-plan bar has no atmosphere. My room was adequate but very plain for a four star hotel. Breakfast was very good but I'd advise you to be early as it gets really busy. Dinner was good but not exceptional and the restaurant has no atmosphere. You can book for the restaurant online but you won't receive a confirmation (or I didn't anyway). I also couldn't get a table for dinner on the Saturday night even though the restaurant didn't seem especially busy. Having tried to book online, I tried by phone but the girl at the other end said she'd look to see if there was a table and then hung up on me so I rang again and she sounded really disinterested before hanging up again! Some of the staff in the restaurant and bar were friendly but most of them, while they were not rude, didn't really seem that bothered. There must be better hotels in Rotterdam than this!
"Beautiful hotel, well situated"
We stayed at the Bilderberg for the weekend and found it delightful. The check in staff upgraded our room upon arrival and the place was immaculate. Service was great and the price, given the level of accommodation, is reasonable. We love the city of Rotterdam and the Bilderberg is perfectly situated, in easy reach of all the main attractions. Highly recommended
"Not exactly the hotel I will pick for my next stay in Rotterdam"
Check in took more than 15 minutes, and the staff incorrectly informed me that breakfast was not included although I was part of a group for which is was indeed. The room was spacy and fine but the temperature was 30 degrees + which is unacceptable for a businesshotel at that price. Offering a suite with aircon at an extra fee is not the solution at this level and price. No coffee machine at the room. So although the breakfast was good I left with the feeling that this was clearly below the expectations for a hotel at this level and far below what I usually meet around the world and in Europe particular. Not a hotel I would choose my self next time I visit Rotterdam.
