Located in the closest neighbourhood of the ancient Roman road Aurelia, the Black hotel is only a few kilometres away from the Vatican City and 10 min by car from a golf course.
The hotel enjoys an easy access to the sea and the city.
"Great trip! "
Modern hotel that on first impression, is like a nightclub a lot of black decor. Breakfast and breakfast room amazing! 👍Place would be brighter with more of the green on corridors and stairways, black bit oppressive..Place is immaculate though!! 👍👍 Place brighter with Evelyn!!! Evelyn on reception is so helpful and friendly. She made our stay! Travelling into Cornelia to catch Metro is free then €1.50 for 100 mins.. To be honest walking you can see most historical sites. We did hop on hop off bus to give another view of whole city. Didn't need fast pass in the Vatican this time of year. Also audio guide €7 useless, map confusing to where you actually are whilst in the Vatican. Great city, great trip. Clean and quiet hotel !!
"Too far from the city. Moved hotels"
My partner and I booked a weekend break through wowcher and weekender breaks to Rome and where allocated this hotel, unfortunately for us we were told the hotel was right in the centre of Rome, by that we thought literally near the historical areas, when we arrived after paying 50euros taxi from the airport, our stomachs sank as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere! We stayed and had a drink while we decided what to do. We then decided to take our bags and get a taxi in to the centre of Rome costing 35euros, the Spanish steps and find a hotel. To our delight we found a wonderful hotel one street away from the Spanish steps 'Condotti Hotel' highly recommended. Although the hotel wasn't for us the staff were very polite and they did show us the shuttle bus service, we evaluated the costs and decided we were better off getting a hotel in the centre than mess around getting a shuttle bus to then get the train to pay to get a taxi to where every we were going, to then get one back to the hotel later. My partner and I like to go for walks and have a few drinks on an evening, but situated at this hotel there is no option other than to stay in as there are no bars around the area and the roads are not great to walk in the dark.
This hotel offered us everything we needed for our stay in Rome. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, especially the morning staff. Breakfast was extensive and fresh. Included eggs and bacon. It is a little far from city but this wasn't a problem for us. The hotel provides a shuttle car to Metro and then It was a short journey and cost 1.5 euros for travel. We had dinner at hotel on one evening and again found this very good, it was buffet style with hot - cold food with pudding and for 15 euros each we found this reasonable. We would stay here again.
I've read many reviews on here about how poor the Hotel is but actually I found the Hotel fine for the long weekend break that we had. Yes its a budget Hotel so you cant expect to much, its something on a par, crossed between a Premier Inn and a Travel lodge. The hotel is very dark but then again it is called Hotel Black after all. The reception and bar area were small but it catered well for our needs. The Bedroom was quite large but not much room for hanging your clothes, so once again a short stay is probably what it is used for. The Breakfast was a continental breakfast although there is a selection of bacon sausage and egg, but you cant call it a full English. The Hotel is dog friendly. The location of the hotel is quite a distance out it cost by taxi into Rome about £20 using Uber app. Using the white cabs in Rome back worked out a little cheaper. Due to being in a party of 4 this was the cheapest way to travel. At night if you fancy eating out local to the hotel there is a couple of restaurants. We tried a Cowboy themed Diner. Now I must point out the restaurants I think cater for passing motorists due to the fact there are no public footpaths down into the restaurant you have to walk part of the way on a busy dual carriageway. One other thing that I found when we walked away from the restaurant around 10pm to our right there were 3 young ladies of the night plying there trade. So take note what kind of area this is. In general if you want a budget hotel then don't let the area put you off.
"Ideal for city break, very helpful staff!"
Potentially very stylish hotel, although needs some TLC. The hotel's greatest assets were the charming and extremely helpful staff. Particularly my thanks to Evlina, Elena (front desk) Franco (bar/restaurant) and Carmine (courtesy driver), they contributed greatly to my first visit to Rome. Hotel ideally located for Fiumicino airport (20 mins). Free courtesy bus to Metro at Cornelia (10mins), leaves at 8.30, 9.30 and 10.30. Although you need to make your own way back from Cornelia on a 246 or 247 bus It does however need greater attention to detail to warrant 4 stars!. The mini bar fridge was noisy and useless, not a huge problem though in December, and Evlina did offer to swop it. Housekeeing was good and discrete. The rooms were well maintained and the bedding clean, which is not always the case when booking city breaks I always travel with a mini kettle and corkscrew, (the two essentials). I understand that only the superior rooms have tea/coffee making facilities. This is an oversight that should be corrected, particularly for us Brits! Breakfast was certainly adequate, although the scrambled eggs were poor. The chafing heaters were not always lit, and consequently what should be hot, was not. Cold eggs and bacon don't always appeal! I cannot comment on the evening buffet, although it again looked adequate, and at €15, not expensive. They could however make this a much more appealing option by displaying that evenings menu and main dish on the front desk. Local options for eating are not that extensive. Overall it was very good value for money. I had booked through Broadway Travel, so it was a good deal. Would I be as happy if I'd paid 'rack rate'. I'm afraid not!
