"Great stay as always!"
Stayed in a family room for one night on 18th Feb for a birthday visit to my son who is at Bristol Uni. The staff are so friendly and very very helpful. Talking to one of the girls working in the bar who asked about my trip and just mentioned why we were visiting, next thing we knew a birthday cake arrived for my son, so thoughtful! This is not the first time this has happened, we stayed last year at the same time and the same thing happened!!! The staff really make you feel special and make it personal which is great!! We will definitely be staying here EVERY time we visit Bristol, this was our 3rd time staying here and we are looking forward to staying many more times! Thank you !!!!
"Ruined - disgraceful"
Receptionist was lovely and did a great job. She upgraded us from double to king but it was outside the lift & after waiting 5 mins for lift, we arrived on our floor to find about 20 people outside the lifts shouting at each other. People going in & out of each other's rooms banging the doors. We asked to move & were told we could be downgraded to a quieter room so we took it. mistake! On the other side of hotel. Constant traffic noise & sirens. 1.30am woke by shouting & banging doors again which continued on & off until 3.30am by which time we were exhausted. Ruined our stay completely. Reception was sympathetic & offered to waive our parking fee £17 but nothing more. I paid £100 for the room. Disgraceful to allow such behaviour, disgusted. Ruined my anniversary - had to go home to bed instead of spending day with my family. V upset.
"Not very suitable for families"
There aren't any places in the hotel to relax as a family or couple. The bar in the hotel is actually a Sports Bar, that insisted on showing football on huge screens even on Valentines Day (despite numerous complaints from those in the bar, who all had to leave). This is particularly a problem as the hotel is quite a walk from most restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. There is no jacuzzi. The staff were nice and friendly, though the management were always unavailable giving the impression that they didn't really care about the guests. Not the best Marriott by a long long way.
"Cold and hungry - cut short stay"
Booked a family room for two nights. Arrival fine, extra pillows brought on request but room cold so I attempted to follow the instructions and increase the temperature. Came back from lunch and it was still very chilly so notified housekeeping and two friendly chaps came and adjusted the control and told me it had to have the fan on for warmer air. The fan was noisy but if that was required then okay. Came back after a walk and the fan if anything seemed to be blowing out cold air. Went to the bar terrace with daughter for snacks and when simple olives and hummus failed to arrive in 45 minutes and daughter very hungry I went to the bar to pay for the drinks and cancel the snacks so we could go elsewhere and the bar man said just a minute and went away. After ten minutes the American waiting behind me said I think he's had his minute at which point I notified reception that I had been unable to pay. The room was still cold when we returned and we had to switch off the noisy 'hot fan' to sleep. I had to put a coat over the duvet, homeless style. The next day we checked out. Reading the other reviews (okay, I should have done so beforehand!) about chilly rooms it is clear that the hotel has a heating problem and shouldn't be open in this cold weather.
Staff and manager fantastic. food is the worst I have ever had in a hotel. They charge about 17.50 for breakfast the bread laid out on the day was frozen sliced bread asked for unfrozen but we're unable to provide scrambled egg swimming in water, hash browns and black pudding dried out asked for fresh but never turned up. Had meal in restaurant night before lamb steak covered in onion sent it back as it was so bad. They replaced it with a steak which was asked to be medium well came out rare by this time could tell it would not matter how many times we sent back they would not get it right so payed the bill and tipped the waitress £10 as she was brilliant as the rest of the staff through out the hotel. Did not stay the second night as planed which we were refunded for. The first night B&b and evening meal we paid in full
