"Buddha without the pest"
Stayed here for 2 nights for work- organised an expensive but good pick up from the airport through the very efficient hotel website ( don't believe the hype airport taxis are fine I was just lazy and on expenses). Overall an excellent stay- welcome was friendly and efficient - always good to have a bit of light banter. The hotel itself has obviously been done on a theme which overall was very tastefully done. The only thing that irked me was it was so dark everywhere so you constantly felt like you are in a night club ( very minor gripe). Really lovely room - super comfy bed fantastic shower - heated toilet seat ( bit weird) and underfloor heating in bathroom ( which was handy as my shower flooded the floor). Great sound system in the room too with a media hub so ( in theory) you can connect devices to the tv or audio- my Bluetooth didn't work but a handy man gave me a work around very quickly.. the " ambient "music became a bit too elevator within 5 mins. I did not use the spa but I did use the Asian fusion Restuarant ajoining the hotel which was fantastic - the reception told me to book but it was pretty empty ( Tuesday night). Had a really good GnT in the bar ( I rate bars on how good they do a Hendricks with cucumber and it's was 10/10 :). There is a nightclub joined to the hotel which you can hear from your room (243 in my case) but I didn't notice past midnight - probably not the hotel for families but good for young couples or a funky midweek work trip. Breakfast was a good spread with additional cooked options for a small menu ( I.e pancakes and eggs). Very central for Budapest - walked most places , when it got too cold used a fantastic app - city taxi Budapest which is basically the uber equivalent. Overall great stay- thanks :)
"Nice but not 5 star"
Good points Great location Great size rooms Lovely warm heated floor in bathroom Nice toiletries Nice staff Comfy beds Good choice for breakfast Not so good:- Rooms very dark and could do with a good duster Some parts of hotel need updating Poor lighting in the rooms
I have stayed in some prestigious palaces around the world, and I have to say that this hotel is far from my definition of a "palace" and the standards of a 5 stars hotel. Appart from being located in a very beautiful building at the heart of the city, the whole experience was extremely disappointing. In fact, my understanding of the situation is that the hotel, its bars and restaurants were probably great at a time but unfortunately the services, the atmosphere, the infrastructures and the decor have aged very poorly to become outdated. Just a few examples to illustrate my experience. We were visiting Budapest for the first time with my husband and we chose Christmas and New Year Eve time to visit this beautiful city. I wanted to make our journey special, so I organized a surprise for him: a 2 hours massage at the spa. I had communicated with the hotel my wish to keep it "secret" until the "D" day in more than 3 emails. The hotel had replied positively to my request several times. However, as soon as we arrived at the reception desk and while checking in, we were both told: "well, congratulation, I see that you have booked a massage at our spa!"... Really' Yes, the spa and the reception desk didn't communicate about my request - which is the basics for a so called "Palace". Our journey started with an extremely disappointing first impression. Then, we spent our first night in our first bedroom. Except the fact we felt like sleeping with the trafic, the curtains were broken, tv did not work properly and each time you took a shower a swimming pool was taking place in the bathroom. We were "upgraded" and moved in our second bedroom, from the 3rd to 4th floor. It was still very noisy and fixtures, devices and walls were in poor conditions (broken rubbish, broken face mirror, scratches all over the fixtures and walls, dirt marks on the walls, fridge not cool, TV out of service for more than 12 hours, dysfunctional tap). We also regret the size of the spa and the breakfast room which is far too small considering the number of bedrooms occupied in full capacity. It made us feel overwhelmed in crowded and noisy spaces. Finally and last but not least, we had booked a taxi in the evening before our departure while checking out as we were leaving to the airport very early in the morning, that's to say 4:45am. Once at the reception desk at 4:45, we asked for our taxi, they both looked at each other and a question mark appeared on their faces. In fact, they had no clue of what we were talking about. After a call with the taxi company, one of them realized there was a taxi waiting for us outside. It was nearly 5am. First impression, last impression. This is the reason why I strongly not recommend you this hotel if you are looking for a pleasant and qualitative stay in a Palace.
"simply stunning - excellent hotel"
Firstly - you have to visit Budapest and stay at this hotel!!! It is superb and we shall be returning!!! MY boyfired and myself visited here from the 3rd January - 6th January. We arrived very late and the reception staff were lovely and efficient. The room was amazing!!! we had an executive room (205) and it was large, extremely comfortable and had everything you needed! The bed was huge as were the pillows, the bathroom door actually doubles up as a full length mirror when you close it, the mini bar was really well stocked and the room had masses of storage! The bathroom was superb, underfloor heating, his and her sinks, huge mirror, huge bath with a rain shower over the top. The toilet had a heated seat, glowed in the dark and came with it's own remote control! Some comments have said that they thought the room was quite dark - i didn't think this at all, the decor was really nice, high ceilings and considering we were facing a busy main road - we didn't hear a thing. This was a really comfortable room..more than comfortable which was perfect after a day of exploring! The hotel itself is just everything you would want and more. Immaculately clean, amazing decor throughout and the staff are very helpful, accommodating, smiley and always happy to help. We had breakfast included and i have to say the spread was excellent. A good selection of breads, cold meats, cheeses, waffles, juices, yogurts and cereals. You order your hot breakfast which i found was a welcome change to the normal buffet feast that hotels generally offer. The hot breakfasts were excellent. I can be a fussy eater but out waitress was more than happy to let me choose exactly what i wanted etc... my boyfriend said that he has never had better eggs than there! We didn't eat in the main restaurant at night but...wow! it looked amazing!! The hotel has 2 bars - a lobby bar and also the buddah bar on the first floor. The buddah bar is a must! a really chilled out vibe, again the decor was lovely and fantastic cocktails. The Spa - we went to the spa each night - it was just a nice way to relax after a full on 10 hour day in freezing conditions. The Gym is small yet the cardio machines are state of the art. We used the Sauna and plunge pool which were lovely - it was a shame that a couple of the steam room were not working due to maintenance, but it really didn't bother us Check out was quick and efficient and the hotel are more than happy for you to leave your luggage there if you have a late flight As for the location - the hotel is in a prime position!! right next to the Elizabeth Bridge and walking distance into the main shopping district. I would absolutely recommend that you buy tickets to the "hop on hop of" bus tour. For three days it cost us approx £20 each (15000 HUF) and you can use them all day everyday. If you did the full tour it takes 2.5 hours but the beauty of it is that you can "hop on and off" as much as you like - so it is a great was to get easy access across all of Budapest - and the price includes a full river tour!!! Budapest is simply stunning! cosmopolitan, clean, the monuments and buildings simply take your breath away!!! unbelievable. We visited most places and thought everywhere was lovely. We took Hungarian Forit - excepted everywhere and generally the preferred means of payment. Cash points are everywhere - safe to use and are also in English We went in January and it was freezing! -7.....so wrap up warm! Beer is generally about £1 and you can grab a sandwich or hotdog for about £2 Taxi for the airport was 7000HUF (approx £17) If you are staying at the hotel, when you land at the airport give the hotel a call and they will ring a taxi for you to come and collect you. Please please visit this hotel! you will not be disappointed
"Left me wanting"
Unfortunately i have only spent one out of the booked two nights due to flight delays. I have spent most of my stay sleeping which was great as for me the bed is the Star highlight of the hotel. Staff. Professional. Cleaniness. Good. Room size and design was beautiful and comfortable. Bathroom shower had no curtain or glass so water was all over the bathroom floor. Maybe this was due to the less able room i had althought i didnt need nor request one. Breakfast was great. Lots of choices and restaurant is beautifuly designed and staff was also professional and prompt. The Asian restaurant at the hotel. Staff same as other parts of hotel. However the food was not the highest standard. It is a bit difficult to describe the hotel overall. First thd buidling is huge. N i presume its a world g Hertirage . Gorgeous. However once inside the hotel us like divided into many small spaces... its a bit overpriced for what you recieve but its not a huge margin.
