"Not totally an "Indulgent Escape""
A last minute booking for a short break in the sun; five star hotel, here we come. Excellent accommodation and pool facilities; no shortage of loungers or parasols; all areas of the hotel spotlessly clean, daily maid service. The hotel is quite a distance from the local town - Buenavista; probably a 20 minute walk, and longer to the sea; a car would be useful, but not essential. Our main areas of dissatisfaction were: 1) the poor quality of main courses on offer at Dinner - didn`t expect to be offered "stew" on two occasions. Main course accompaniments, pretty unexciting and lukewarm. 2) I was assured before we went that gentlemen were required to wear long trousers at Dinner - some joke. Nobody bothered what you wore; doubt if some guests even bothered to shower beforehand. The whole dining experience seemed to lack a controlling presence ie a Maitre' d.
""The Level expierience" Relaxing stay with great confort, wheather and views."
This only adults (above 16) Gran Meliá hotel is located in the north west of Tenerife. In my 2 weeks holiday in the Island staying in the South, although sceptical in the begining, I booked a week-end in this remote part of Tenerife, behind "los Gigantes" but facing the sea. Stunning Location in a Valley with abrupt mountains behind and a nice golf course in front ending in the Sea. "The Level" seaview room was amazing: very good space. Decoration and furniture were top level and with unbeatable seaviews. Only minus: the TV's are small (32 inches). External areas: Although the hotel was full never felt crowded. The SPA, the restaurants, the pools and the buildings are built in a sort of different levels imitating a micro Canary town. All the areas are accesible for people with special needs. "The Level" external sun terrace and internal VIP lounge, offers you wine, beer, soft drinks, fruit and snacks at all times. Also spirits and hot snacks are offered in the evening (included in the price if you book "The Level" rooms). Breakfast is good quality in the buffett Rest. and fantastic with personal service in a la carte Rest. To the General Manager: dinner in the buffett Restaurant was mediocre and would not say that matches the cathegory of this great hotel. Please fix it. Nevertheless I must highlight the excellent attention received from all the well trained staff pampering us, that made this expierience unforgetable. Special thanks to all The very kind Staff and specially to: Roxana, Priscila, Claire, Paola, Jorge I, Jorge II, Aythami, Aron and Rubén from Tenerife, Egleé from Venezuela and Thomas from UK. This hotel is value for money. Will return soon. Suggestion: if you like an omellette with: 1egg, layer of salmon and layer of spinach, ask for omellette Francesca, at a la carte Rest. (it is not in the breakfast menu...as per yet).
Staff friendly and very helpful, food excellent, large room and the beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in, like sleeping on a fluffy cloud, brilliant hotel. Beautiful hotel, brilliant staff, location is fabulous, The beds are amazing like sleeping on a cloud
"unic special extraordinary stonish beautiful place"
A very wide & large room with a garden to sit drinking coffee and enjoing the landscap. Bathroom wide and very comfortable to use. Kingsize Bad. Very rich dinner/suffer, as well the breakfast. At Saturday a piano or violet player escort whill you eating. At evening there is cocktail bar with different singer every night, were you can sing with or dancing. You can use the local Spa or relacxing at the pool. Two pools in two stores. The Hacienda hotel architecture very impresive : mix of modern with old, antics with wood work handmade, in wide and high spaces. Staff were very kinds and did every thing they could to gave us satisfing feeling. We rocommend you try the evening restaurant at their place. Highly recomanded ! Location of this place is at North-West Corner of the iland,Isolate and quit from crowd and the full name of this hotel is "Melia Hacienda del Conde del North Without Children" which is meen that no acceptance children under 18 years old. So you can understand that you have to hire a car. It's location was comfortable to travel the Teide Park, and the villages arround like Garachico, Icod the los vinos, Teno (don't miss it), and Masca (including Los Gigantes). If you good driver, use road TF-436 to Masca. Tip : look at the map and don't afraid to choos the most sharp corners and courve roads. those are the most interest and beautiful landscape you will find. One more recomandation : From all Parks at the north of the iland,Go to ANAGA Park. It's the greenest park with the most planets to take a walk or a trip or track. Plane your vacation so, that order a place for few days at the nort-west of the iland, and another few days at the north.
We stayed here late September having booked a late package deal through Thomson. Given the previous reviews we have read of the place where where not surprised to find it ideal for us. Quiet and in a beautiful setting between the mountains and he sea, it was just what we needed to unwind. Rooms are very spacious and well appointed with a walk in wardrobe and large bathroom. We only paid for B&B as previous reviews had suggested that the buffet dinner was not of great quality. They where right. We tried this a couple of times but where not that impressed. The A la Cart restaurant on the other hand was very good. After one visit we realized that if you are a small eater, then two courses from here was cheaper than the buffet and much better value. Drinks are the same price throughout the hotel. Breakfasts where pretty good with plenty of choice and an option to have your eggs cooked however you like while you wait. The hotel pool was large enough and there was always plenty of space to sit / lie by the pool. As a nice touch one of the staff walks round the pool area with fruit kebabs just before lunch. The staff where always friendly and approachable and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. As we had booked a package, we had inclusive transfers to the hotel so did not hire a car. This was a bit of a mistake as the hotel is fairly isolated and to see any of the island a car is almost essential. Car hire at the hotel is possible but very expensive (about 3 to 4 times airport rental prices). There are buses from Buenavista, but that's a 20 minute walk away with limited destinations. We used this for trips to ICOD and Garachico (tip: buy a Bono card at the station - this will give you reduced bus fares). There are some good restaurants in Buenavista and Garachico, but the menus are all very similar - Grilled fish or grilled meat with the occasional omelette or Pizza thrown in for variety. If you like a walk the local beach is only a 10 to 15 minute walk down the road from the hotel and there are well made foot paths along the coast here giving great views of the rugged coastline. Overall a score of 4, only held back by the not so good buffet evening meal.
