"I really wanted to like this hotel, but..."
TL;DR: very tired property that survives on just that little bit of charm. Stayed here over four nights for a wedding that took place at Naka Island; didn't want to pay 3x the price (around US$450) for the Starwood Luxury Collection, which was the only property on Naka, so stayed here instead because of its 10 min ferry link to the island. The location has its pros and cons. It's at least 45 mins from everything else: Patong, Phuket town, airport, etc. We wanted a quiet vacation, so it worked for us, but would be infuriating otherwise. There is a complimentary daily shuttle service to Patong and the Central Festival mall (except Sundays), but the schedule didn't work for us so we rented a car instead. The staff try hard but not always competent. Driver wasn't there when we arrived at the airport -- waited 15 mins for him to show up, but when you're paying the hotel for a transfer you'd expect the driver to be waiting for you. Couldn't charge the airport dropoff to my credit card cos "the hotel car is fully booked but we got you another driver" -- but I had no more baht left, had to borrow from friends. Was told rental car I booked the day earlier wasn't available one hour before it was supposed to arrive with no alternatives offered. Had to escalate to the manager. It took two hours but it did get sorted out eventually. The resort seemed totally empty when we arrived, and continued to feel that way over the four days we were there: the only other guests came for the wedding. On the plus side that meant we were all upgraded to the one-bed villa. The villas are huge, with their own plunge pools, but are very very dated and should have been refurbished 10 years ago. The roof in my villa looked like it was going to collapse, with a visible bend in the false ceiling. The indoor areas are clean, but the patio is filthy -- the deck chairs in particular have stains all over the cushions. Food really isn't very good -- the bigger concern was that the resort was so empty we weren't sure how fresh the ingredients would be. We ate out most days and even forwent the free breakfast one morning. The Port of Call restaurant at the Ao Po marina next door (10 min walk, or ask the hotel to send you on a buggy) is excellent. Went for a 1h30 full body massage, but for some reason the masseur spent 1h10 on my legs and 20 mins on my back/shoulder. On the plus side, the swimming pool, despite its mismatched tiles, is lovely, with a beautiful view of the ocean. And the best part: the deck chairs here are clean.
"Disgusting Filthy Hotel"
My husband and I booked this hotel for a one night stay and left 30 minutes later after inspecting the dirty run down room we were allocated which was pool villa 501 .. Filthy bathroom, cracked sink .. shower did not work adequately , no air con in half of the villa . broken furniture and very musty smell the list is endless .. mosquitos would be well at home here .. to be well avoided !
If you want to lock you and your most adored away with all the amenities and luxury experience at your finger tips Chandara resort and spa is the perfect couples get away destination My husband and I felt like we were the only two people in the entire results And had out daily ritual on coupled spa treatments With the private plunge pool and outdoors shower oversized bathroom and spacious main bedrooms we were in our own little paradise Food was suburb Rooms service was awesome spoiling us with suprises of free fruit and cheese platters The restaurant was soo good that we never felt like we have to find someone where new to eat we spoke to the Australian chef and had a cooking class Everything is made on premises even there own bakery which hubby devoured baskets of every morning free full buffet breakfast pretty much set us up till dinner time The gym was pretty amazing also with the private air conditioned huts perched over the waters edge feeling like her running on the ocean They made us feel like a kind and queen We Loved here but defiantly a couples only resort
"Naturally beautiful but needs work"
We stayed at Chandara one day/night only because we were chartering a boat the next day at the Ao Po Marina next door. Pros: - spacious rooms with private plunge pools. (But you lol have to clean your own deck off bird poop) - beautiful view (if your room faces the water otherwise the main pool and beach are your best option) - beautiful landscape. Flower pedals fall all throughout the hotel path and they have little water streams that host live little fish. - they offer free 15 min neck massage with your stay - it's really not far from the airport yet isolated and private. - massages are inexpensive (about $60 for 85min Thai) Cons: - needs new management - no English speaking staff (the few members around) - restaurant food is average to poor - gym room/s have only two equipment. Bike and threadmill. (But they do have a fantastic view if you decide to use one) -I bet you can get a better value for your $230/night in Thailand.
"An oasis with great pool and better staff"
There are several reasons why we enjoyed our stay at this resort... the quiet beauty of the lush gardens, the cool waters of the large infinity pool, the calming spa and the most helpful desk/ concierge staff that we encountered on the crazy busy island of Phuket. If you like the hustle... and I do mean hustle ;) of Patong, this is not the place for you. This location is just perfect for those who don't want to fight the crowds. It's proximity to tour the majestic limestone formations of Phang Gna bay and other activities such as elephant trekking cannot be beat. My only regret is that I don't remember the name of the staff member who was so gracious in helping plan our 3 days there. He genuinely listened to what we were looking for and planned excursions, dinner reservations and a car rental (which we learned was a bit unusual for 2 Caucasian women traveling alone to do in this country, but I highly recommend if you're going north, but I digress). Just keep in mind, the sea is not like the Caribbean waters with clear turquoise shorelines, but rather a little gray from the muddy waters and the extreme tides (and even hotter temps) that recede each day and bring a smell that is not always pleasant. The breezes are your friend in this part of Thailand... Especially during our trip and the outdoor shower! The only thing that kept this location from the highest rating is the food, but most travelers know to look outside the hotel property for that.
