"Quiet, comfortable hotel"
This hotel is in a quiet area just 15-20 minutes from Princes Street. The public rooms are comfortable and welcoming. We stayed in Quest on the top floor, the room was clean with a huge bathroom. The only downside is the slopping ceilings which gave the room a slightly cramped feel. Our friends were opposite in Nimrod, the room was more spacious.
"Not a 4*"
Stayed here last week - when arrived (Saturday evening) the somewhat grumpy receptionist informed us that we had been upgraded to a junior suite (room 66) from our original booking of a superior room. Great we thought ! Then we saw the room ..... paper peeling off the walls, the shower tray was pitted where the shower head had fallen or been dropped onto it so much that they had tried to cover it with an old rubber bath mat and the mattress was banana shaped (sunk in the middle). It was terrible, we complained to the 'receptionist' who said she would pass our comments on to the manager. Asked again about speaking to the manager later that evening but he was a no show. Sunday morning asked if our comments had been passed on to the manager (different receptionist still grumpy though) he said yes and the manager would be there around 9.30 am. Asked yet again at around 9.30 and the 'receptionist' told us the manager would offer a 20% discount on the room for Saturday evening and offered to move us for the 1 night we had left i.e. Sunday. We declined the move as it was not worth it for 1 night. 'The Manager' never did contact us about our complaint. Breakfast was OK but very expensive for what it was. We returned at the end of the week for a further 2 nights - if we had not booked and paid in advance we would definitely not have done ! Again upgraded to a suite, which was better but still needed attention as does all of the hotel. We didn't bother complaining or trying to speak to 'The Manager' just made the most of it and vowed never to return.
"Quiet Location Yet Central "
Quiet location yet central to Edinburgh, only a 10 minute walk to the Castle and The Royal Mile. This is a well presented hotel with good size rooms, all the usual TV, free Wifi, coffee making etc. and a good size bathroom. The double bed was huge and very comfortable. The bar/restaurant in the basement was a pleasant surprise, modern, well stocked with a varied menu at reasonable prices. The addition of a wood burning stove made it cosy, the staff welcoming and attentive.
"Overnight stay amazing"
Had the best ever stay in the Endurance room to celebrate a special occasion. On the third floor this gorgeous suite was so quiet and relaxing. The warm colours and the pictures create a wonderfully atmospheric living space. The bathroom is just gorgeous and the shower fabulous. Lots of lovely areas in the hotel to sit in peace and quiet. Staff brilliant and made sure we had a fantastic celebration. Can't wait to go back.
"Quiet and Elegant"
Set on a quiet back street, within easy walking distance from the center of Edinburgh. Extremely quiet. My wife and I arrived with 3 suitcases and two backpacks, and found the lift to our floor was only large enough for 1 person and one suitcase - extra trips up and down the narrow stairs. The young lady that was at the front desk when we checked in was helpful, but not overly engaged. Our room was very nice, and clean. The bed was pretty nice, but smaller than we have grown accustomed to. The shower was good, and the hot water lasted until we were finished. Breakfast was VERY good - eggs, toast, tomato, bacon & sausage - served by very friendly people, in the restaurant on the lower level. We didn't eat any other meals there, but when we returned at night from sightseeing, it was generally pretty busy, so that must say something good about the quality. This would be a perfect place to go if you wanted an ultra-quiet location, yet easy access to the center of the city. Wireless internet service was free but a bit spotty, but it passed - we didn't have heavy needs, just email. The room was pretty warm when we arrived, but the windows needed some help - I was afraid I'd break something getting it open, but someone from the hotel came up and got it open...then it didn't want to stay open, so I propped it open with a book. Typical of most lodging I've encountered in Europe, there is generally poor ventilation which can get your room pretty humid during the morning activities with multiple people in and out of the shower. We booked this hotel through our travel agent on their recommendation, and were very pleased. I'd be willing to return here when my travels take us back to Edinburgh. Sleep quality, on a 1-10 scale was about 7 - the bed was comfortable enough, but we almost never sleep well when away from home, and we were still somewhat jet-lagged.
