"First time, but won't be the last"
I usually stay at the Clarion Stockholm on Södermalm, but the location of the Sign was more convenient for this particular trip. It was excellent - just as good as the other hotel. Can strongly recommend.
I was not satisfied with this hotel. I arrived at one in the morning and nobody was at the reception desk. I have to look for him myself. The room was modern and spacious. The hotel itself was noisy, always a party in the lobby. At the time I was there, the hotel was really overcrowded. Almost no place to sit down for the breakfast. The food was not sufficiently refilled. The amount of staff underestimated with so many guests. However, the hotel offered a nice city view since my room was in the eight room. It is not worth the money. I would choose a different hotel next time.
"Solid Hotel in a Good Location"
A well located solid four-star hotel, not über-luxury as such but very decent nevertheless. Review based on a one-night stay in February (background of spending 80+ nights per year in different hotels around the globe). Location: Good central location but somewhat out of the main hustle of the immediate city center next to a park, i.e. no need to worry about constant rush of people or cars by the main door. All the Stockholm central shopping, eating and drinking within walking distance, i.e. plenty of choices for sure. Metro & railway stations less than 1km away. Room: Got a basic room at 6th floor, facing the inner court. Room was not the biggest I’ve seen but enough for a single traveler like me. Décor was rather basic Nordic style, certainly nothing compared to the swanky themed elevators. No signs of usage nor stains anywhere. Room was generally quiet, some noise from the neighboring room though. Etc: Quite good breakfast with multiple warm & cold options, including nice pancakes. Bar was quite expensive but I guess you can expect that in central Stockholm… Check-in & out friendly and efficient even though the hotel clearly was heavily crowded Would I return there' Yes, why not. It was not a full five star pampering but certainly worth four stars, i.e. good!
"Good, but not quite that good.."
Ok, so first how to get there. Come in on the arlanda express, cost about £95/$120 get off the train exit to the street turn left the hotel is about 250m on the left. Train takes about 20 minutes. We came in on the bus, flygbussarna, cost £40/$50 booked on-line upfront, takes about 45 minutes. This drops you at the city terminalen. Now if you came in on the bus, the one thing you need to know is that you are on a elevated road above the hotel, which is actually behind you once the bus pulls into the terminal. So to get to the hotel come of the bus and retrace back to the main road from where the bus turned off and turn right, go to the crossroads, turn left and cross the road, walk up one block and the hotel is on the left corner of the park, easy. Now the hotel, someone described it as swank, a fair statement. It is trying to be trendy, including the music in the elevators, rock, pop and two other versions. I kind of liked it, wifey hated it. Check in a breeze, plenty of staff about and service was very good, pleasant and helpful welcome. Now we were offered an upgrade, apparently we were booked into a standard room, these are internal facing. Upgrade cost 400 krona, about £40/$50 for the two nights, but this was a reduced rate as they had so many rooms available. We had a view of the park in front of the hotel. The room itself was comfortable, although it seemed like two single beds pushed together. There is a mini-bar, Beer 60kr, 1/2 bottle red wine 135kr, chocolate/pepsi 35kr. TV with reasonable selection of channels and all the usual. Now my travel guide said this was an expensive hotel, not the real top end, but there are things missing - robes/slippers. There is tea and coffee facilities, but no milk on our first day which was a little annoying. The bathroom is interesting. Bath with shower over, bath fills very quickly, but one odd observation. When emptying, some of the water flows temporary into the bathroom through a small silver vent on the bottom of the bath. Odd and makes the floor wet, not helpful when you are drying yourself. Bar is fine, we had great service from a fellow brit on the bar, sorry forgot his name, but quality and helpful with advice regarding the beers and wine on offer. Breakfast was of a buffet service, good selection available, hot and cold. Big area, plenty of seating, so no issues regarding space etc. The hotel is about 20 minutes or so from Gamla Stan, where the old town lies which is a must to visit. Just exit the hotel walk by the side of the park and turn right at the first turn and just follow that straight down to Gamla Stan, easy.
"Central chaos - understaffed."
550 rooms; queue everywhere - elevator, breakfast, check-in, check-out. Small rooms. Poor cleanliness, especially in the breakfast hall. Understaffed. We were celebrating my fathers 75th anniversary and I sent an email asking if we could have a bottle of sparkling in the room at arrival. The email was not answered - bad service.
