"Great Location but slightly rundown hotel"
The location of the hotel is second to none as it is right in the middle of syntagma square. The hotel is walking distance from many restaurants and takes hardly any time to get to the Acropolis. The hotel staff are very friendly and informative and truly do their best and go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is the best that it can possibly be. There are a few downsides however as the hotel is slightly rundown as seen through the state of the bathroom. The bathroom is decent, but does need some improvement as the sink was cracked and despite almost all adjustments to the shower head, water kept spilling out of the shower. In addition the water would not maintain a specific heat as the temperature constantly fluctuated. The problem was adjusted to an extent, but there still was a change in temperature during the shower. Although the hotel does not have a pool or a great gym, free access is granted to the amenities of the neighboring hotel, Grande Bretagne. The pool and spa were great and took almost no time to get to since both hotels are next to each other. The food at the hotel at the Tudor Hall restaurant, located on the seventh floor of the hotel, was exceptional and the views of the acropolis from the restaurant were simply amazing. I really enjoyed my stay at the King George hotel and would recommend it to anyone staying in Athens.
the king george has an excellent location, but beware that breakfast is NOT included. however, is is served with a great view of the acropolis. the hotel is a bit tired, problems with the shower and toilet.i think that a bit of tlc the hotel can be much better
"Great location, excellent rooms"
We stayed here in April. My husband had inadvertently booked a room for 1 person, but as soon as the check in staff saw we were 3, she was very accommodative and got us a room in which a spare bed was added. Location is very close to acropolis and plaka area. Plenty of shopping and places to eat nearby. The syngatma square is always bustling with people.
"Could be better"
Stayed here with my better half and our 4 month old son so we could attend the St Patrick's Day ball next door at the Grande Bretagne (owned by the same group as the King George). A few details, the lobby is luxurious yet has a David Bowie mosaic at the far end which is offbeat. One downside to the hotel is a lack of parking - although there is a garage they have an arrangement with preferential rates I understand. The front desk knew in advance that we had a 4 month son in tow and had arranged both for a cot but also a welcome pack of kiddie bath gels and creams. They had also provided kiddie slippers and a bathrobe. Very sweet of them even if he was too young for most of the items. Again as others had said the bed was very comfortable AND the bath/shower unit is fiddly to get in and out of so be very careful. Breakfast is extra which is slightly annoying and the room sizes are not great.
Side by side with the more luxurious Grande Bretagne Luxury Collection, I found the King George warm and welcoming. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast is served at the beautiful Tudor Hall Dining Restaurant on 7th floor which offers a great view on the Acropolis!
