"Representing The Hospitality Of A Great Nation"
I will start by simply classing Hotel King George, Luxury Collection Hotel by Starwood, as The Best Hotel in Athens. The proof is all here, in Tripadvisor reviews. It is probably as close to a perfect city hotel as one possibly could get. The hotel is situated bang in the heart of Athens, very close to all important sites in town for tourism or for government / business meetings. The location is stunning, no questions there, just next door to the sister hotel Grande Bretagne and The Parliament on Syntagma Square! The hotel is run perfectly and the harmony between the management and staff is apparent. When we booked our stay directly with King George (highly recommend to contact them direct)! I had high expectations, however the meet and greet, reception, interior design / decor, public areas and our suite exceeded my highest expectations. My family and I went to Athens to celebrate my 50th birthday. I am so glad we chose to celebrate in this city. And what a happy, memorable (unforgettable) birthday it was. Our suit was a dream — so much space for kids to get lost in (in the good sense of the word), was a true luxury. The Breakfast and dinners were gastronomic treats, the team produced marvellous dishes and real feasts of flavour. I am not talking about Greek cuisine here, which we love, but a phantasmagoric Greco-French and world class feasts. Massive thanks to the master pastry-chef and for the chocolate cake for my birthday, it was a delight (his second name must be Sweet-Genius). As for the waiters, how can we praise them highly enough' Smiles and gentle charms, a delightfully wicked sense of humour, smooth and perfect timing. Every day, every time the same, quiet efficiency in relaxed manner. The views from the restaurant on the roof is amazing (see photos). Every great pianist has something special to offer, the pianist (I am sorry I didn’t get his name) at King George had everything special for the guests, importantly, variety and taste in elegant music. Thank you for the music! The people who work in this hotel make the historic building to come alive; they are genuine Greeks with big hearts and genuine desire to ensure that all guests at King George enjoy their stay. During our 4 day stay, nothing was ever too much trouble for anyone and we were constantly amazed at how much trouble they all went to, to provide us with something lovely and special every day. The hotel has everything apart from a spa, beauty salon, gym and swimming pool, however as a guest of King George Hotel, we were welcome to use the ‘award-winning’ spa, a 65 Sq Meters indoor pool and the gym right next door at The Grande Bretagne Hotel. The spa at the GB is something not to be missed. We loved it and children (small, innocent, honest :-) confirmed that it was one of the best spa / pools we have ever been to. Very much in par with Trump International, St Regis & Rosewood. Quality! Total treat. On this occasion I find it difficult to come-up with further words to describe our stay and to give it the right level of feedback. However, I recommend King George (which to us was part, a very prominent part of Athens) very highly to everyone who loves quality, beautiful environment, high standard service, quiet and relaxing surroundings, top notch food and drinks (I just remembered my G&T’s). Yes, an odd part of the hotel may be dated (see few reviews below), but I found it was in line with it’s historic heritage. The hotel was certainly very clean, tidy and five star! We can’t quite believe that we left King George, we are missing it and Athens a great deal. Even tough we had a superb city brake and managed to see most historic sites, museums, parks and the old town, we will be back!! Both to King George and to Grande Bretagne (with our children). And finally, many thanks to all at the hotel who made our stay perfect and special kind regards to Christine, Maria, Olga & Konstantinos. Thank you. Enjoy!
I've stayed at several hotels throughout Europe and this hotel comes second to none. You know it's a special hotel when the staff becomes a highlight of your trip. Very polite and willing and wanting to help you with everything they can! Highly recommend the King George
"well spotted !"
i ve been several times at this hotel, never stayed there though! I ve enjoyed drinks and corporate events in the top floor. Very good location and conveniently connected to the rest of the city center.
"Well managed and maintained hotel"
I really enjoyed my stay at King George. The location was central to everything. I took the metro to most areas that I wanted to visit. The hotel is very luxurious and my room (suite) was quite spacious and comfortable. Because of my SPG Platinum status, I was able to receive free breakfast every morning. While I wish they would rotate breakfast items daily, quality was quite nice. I would consider staying at King George next time I am in Athens.
I cannot say enough about this hotel. Let me get the one and only bad thing about this hotel out of the way first: because it's situated between 2 other buildings, the only rooms with views face the square and they are premium-priced. Other than that, I have to commend Sofia and her colleague whose bame i cant remember but ahe is a little taller and wears hlasses at the Front Desk who just blew us away with their warmth and care. The bell staff and hotel staff in general are top-notch. There is a sophistication in the service they provide which defines the Luxury Collection brand more than its grand structure and rooms which are expected to be nothing less than perfect. It is worth every $ you spend and I truly wouldn't stay anywhere else in Greece. You will not be disappointed.
