"Three Day Visit"
Planed to stay one night on the way home. Wound up staying three nights due to an air traffic controller strike. Hotel and spa, while expensive, are fantastic and the staff and concierges were very helpful. Rooftop bar/restaurant has an amazing view of the Acropolis.
A very splendid old style hotel with great charm. Rooms look recently refurbished and had a good and comfortable bed. The only downside being a small, strangely shaped shower area in what was otherwise a decent bathroom. Not good if you are big or have movement difficulty. Staff helpful and very willing. Good options for eating out nearby. Facilities are shared with very posh GB hotel next door, rooftop restaurant has good views, but better places to eat at price.
Nothing "big box hotel" at the King George! One gets a feeling of nostalgia at this hotel - the stately marble lobby, understated, mellow decoration, a peaceful feel, attentive staff. The rooms are comfortable, though a bit dated and starting to show wear. The hallways definitely are showing wear. In all fairness, there is an active refurbishment program underway to update the hotel. The floor above my level was closed for the necessary work, so I would suggest asking for a room two floors away from the construction activity to minimize the attendant noise impact. The view from the 7th floor restaurant is spectacular especially in the morning when the low sun angle highlights the nearby Acropolis. The restaurant food is quite good for any meal you may choose. The staff is friendly and skilled. Location is ideal for walking to various historic sites and the Plaka, the old historical neighborhood of Athens. There is no shortage of excellent restaurants in the area, shopping abounds, and there is a quirky "flea market" street nearby as well.
"Great location but overall not impressed"
My husband and I stayed in this hotel for a few days right after Christmas. We paid the extra money for a view of the Acropolis (which wasn't great) and a deluxe room. We were highly disappointed at the noise level from the restaurant located on the rooftop. It was extremely loud in the morning with the breakfast buffet going on directly above our room.
"True 5 star Boutique Hotel in Athens"
This was another hotel a while ago but the bretagne bought it and share some facilities with it. It's in the perfect location and adjacent to The bretagne. Centrally located with a chic style compared to any other Hotel in Athens. The we were there when Obama visited after the first day the demonstrations stopped. This hotel was right on their route. Not even a negative nor negative thought about our experience. Hotel staff seemed to be radio headphone connected they can anticipate your every move. It just felt like they were on your side not the opposition in requesting service. There is a beautiful 4-story Courtyard in the hotel with an open-air Vine growing wall. This is a five-star experience and one I would consider better than the neighboring 5 star hotel because of the intimacy Factor. The restaurant view of the Parthenon was second-to-none the intimacy of the dining room was more like a living room. Everything was very Regal and comfortable and divine.
