"Good value close to the city centre"
Stayed here for one night. Rooms are a little dated but extremely comfortable... and huge! I had a king bed and full bathroom including bath. About a 5-10 walk into the centre of town, plenty of places to eat around the hotel or there is dining available downstairs. Union Square is about 5 mins away by car with a good selection of shops and restaurants. There's a multi story car park across the road that is really reasonably priced and free between 8pm and 8am. Rooms have everything you need. Hotel also provides free wifi (which was a little hit and miss), but overall a great stay. I had a query on my bill after leaving and the hotel was very responsive and helpful.
"Landmark Hotel within walking distance to city centre"
The hotel is set in a converted grain store, although small lobby and extremely small elevator it is very close to the center of town. Set in a quiet street the rooms are large and comfortable, by far the best bathroom set up I have found in Scotland to date. The decor is reminiscent of grand eras with wood and granite. Not all rooms have a good view but the size makes up for it. The lounge located by the lobby is very comfortable and offers a good selection of local brews on tap, great for group gatherings. This is a full service hotel and the staff is very accommodating as well.
"Staff may be too nice "
Stayed here for one night for business. Room might be dated but great space and spotlessly clean. Great location in city centre so lots of facilities nearby. Decided to have Pre-dinner drink in bar before dinner (feels more comfortable being single female traveller). Completely spoiled the experience. Patron was clearly inebriated, vocal and managed to clear everyone out the bar due to his ramblings. Staff were very pleasant but perhaps too pleasant as they left this man to continue shouting to other guests. I had no choice but to leave my drink at the bar and leave as it was uncomfortable and awkward. Staff offered to take my drink to my room (I was going out) but, made no move to sort out the gent in question. I was a tad spooked for the rest of the evening and dreaded breakfast room the following morning. Breakfast as you'd expect for hotel or this calibre.
I have stayed here a couple of times staff are very friendly nothing is too much bother 2nd time I stayed I took my elderly parents and staff were very helpful my dad who has dementia kept pulling the emergency cord and the appeared every time to ensure my dad was ok I felt bad for them rooms were very spacious and extremely clean we also had dinner which was lovely it is very central parking across the road definitely recommend and would stay again
We expected and accepted dated decor and furniture, but NOT damaged furniture. 1. Large tears in lampshades. 2. Damaged bed headboard. 3. Cracked bathroom tiles. 4. Damaged wardrobe. The Wifi may have been free, but due to such poor reception it was rendered useless. The room was too hot, we can only assume due to an internal heating system, as our room heater was off and the window open. Noisy fridge and some sort of noisy system in the walls. It is not acceptable to charge people for a room with damaged furniture.
