"As close to sleeping on an oil rig as you're likely to get without BOSIET"
There are many service industries that have grown up around the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen. As patronage was more than less guaranteed regardless of quality of service, a precedent was set, to which the Copthorne hotel Aberdeen lives up to impeccably. This is a loud hotel, every time another room flushes a toilet you here it running through the pipes in the room. Lot's of rig workers held up here, so lots of loud drunken voices at 3AM in the morning. The windows are not sealed correctly, so in January it is both cold and lets in outside noise, cars, seagulls, screaming drunk women etc..... The duvets on the bed are a joke unless you are of the stature that fits into the shower (more below). The furniture is old and tired, the floors creak under foot, there is a strange musty smell that permeates the entire property. My bathroom was very poorly appointed, no shaver socket and a power shower for people who are less than 4' in stature. The bathroom is as small as they could have possibly made it with the toilet nestled up along side the miniature bath. The shower operates horizontally directly into the chest and the shower curtains then stick to your body as you attempt to clean. The baths really need to be replaced with shower cubicles, who takes a bath in low budget hotel these days''' The bed is an old devan made from balsa and the mattress is soft or knackered as it known elsewhere and the internet connection is not robust enough to have a high quality Skype video call. Despite other reviews, the staff are excellent though overworked, far too much multitasking required of them which most likely causes chaos at times, this is a management fault. So, in summary the building and contents need to be knocked down and replaced. Most people get paid well to sleep on an oil rig, few would ever consider paying for the privilege.
Nice entrance on busy street. Nice welcome at reception and pretty decent bar and restaurant but it stops there. The mattress is so worn you couldn't feel the springs didn't want to look below the sheets. The towel rail fell of the wall, the bath panel nails were visible and no toiletries in the bathroom. The iron was so chard you couldn't use it and the kettle handle and lid was broken with wires exposed on the handle. The carpet was dirty and needed cleaned or replaced. If I hadn't been late at checking in I would have left immediately.
Hotel in very quiet location, classic decoration, very comfortable rooms, staff very polite & helpful. Car parking located on site with no extra cost, easy walking distance to city centre, for shopping and restaurants.
"Does the job"
Stayed here whilst working in Aberdeen, it was ok, frayed around the edges, needs a desperate lick of paint , room was big but very dated and tired and a lot of dark wood. Breakfast isn't a nice experience, food was a bit sad looking and staff not massively attentive, but reception staff very helpful.
"New year break"
We stayed in this hotel over new year the hotel was very friendly clean and professional staff on hand to help, The food was good, served hot but because of coach party booking, we were unable to use the dining room, but had excellent service in the bar.
