Stayed with hubby for weekend and agree with others, hotel needs a refurbishment tatty fixtures even little things like room service menus stained. However for the price and location it's not too bad. The staff were very helpful especially marian on reception and alex at the bar both had excellent local knowledge and both recommended good venues for us to visit, considering our age broad Street was not for us. On our return there was a bit of a problem with some other customers not sure what but we didn't feel comfortable, the bartender alex diffused what could have been a volatile situation expertly but we both wish we had gone straight to our room. Breakfast was great good selection just the orange juice seemed poor quality in all a good stay & some very good staff
"not good value for money"
I did not stay here as it was too expensive on night and I stayed at another however met colleagues who were staying for a meal. I left my coat in one of their rooms and it was nothing exceptional. We eat in the bugis restaurant and had a nice thai/chinese sort of fusion. Food and service was good although a little expensive which was expected. What I noticed having just come from the hotel I had come from that whilst I would not say it was in anyway unclean it lacked the crisp cleanliness of the other hotel. I had booked late and this hotel wanted over three times as much as the other hotel I stayed at and in no way could it justify that additional cost. Location is not good in the middle of what seems a big roundabout which at this time had lots of roadworks but that is not the hotels fault. My colleagues enjoyed however I felt that there is better value for money very close by.
"Another 'once lovely' hotel"
Booked a 1-night stay because of the price and location. Due to road works, hotel access is challenging and came in through the South entrance through the restaurant. The walk-through to the main lobby gave an indication of the state of the hotel's facilities - once lovely but stuck in time! The facility needs a complete overhaul to bring it into the present. Paying for Wifi anywhere nowadays isn't fun and in this case, the £5 was grudgingly paid as it is essential that I am connected to the internet. There was a sign that offered direct bookings, free Wifi, but that was too late for me, as I already was there! Accessing the Wifi was not very straightforward as I had to come down from my room for assistance. The room was pleasant, nothing outstanding to remember though. Not very insulated from the sounds of neighbouring rooms. Location is great, if the road and surrounding building works do not hinder access. Staff was helpful - I guess they have to be to compensate for the hotel state. Nothing to miss!
"Not worth the money."
I was there for a week for business. Rooms are worn out, could seriously use some paint and maintenance. The hotel is listed as 4 star hotel, but to be fair I would give it 2.5 star. I travel a lot and see different hotels and this was most likely the worst.
"dated but comfortable"
This hotel is a little tired but it's ok. What really makes the place is the staff who are fantastic, the location which is central to everything going on in the city, and the food in the restaurant which is really great. The car park is easy to find but there really are only a few car park spaces and it's a bit tight. the stairs from the car park are steep and slippy, you need to take care particularly when you go back down. the reception is nice and efficient, no delays and the staff are welcoming and friendly. the room was really clean and tidy. Hypnos beds, really comfortable, and a choice of pillows, soft and firm. when you look a little closer you can see a few imperfections, but what do you want when you stay at a hotel' what's important' it's not dire but needs some money spending on it. the soundproofing was fine, we faced the road and underpass but no noise from it in the room. tea and coffee facilities good, bathroom was spotless. The bar and restaurant was well staffed at all times, and the atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. The restaurant was far east themed, the food was unbelievably good. big portions and great value, freshly cooked and no delays. Ok if you are here for a night and fancy a Chinese but there is a lot of local competition so no surprise there were plenty of tables free. there are exit doors to the street which people tended to leave wide open when entering or leaving the hotel via the bar, and it was really cold and draughty everywhere in the bar area, could do with auto closing doors' on the whole, needs modernising but still a nice place to stay. the staff make the place, KP, Leoni, Alistair and the rest. Well done!
