"Absolutely awful and expensive"
Where do I start' We booked a suite as a treat for a special weekend away. The suite itself was very large and reasonably furnished. However, the room and the whole hotel is really tatty (apparently they're having a new hotel built and therefore are not investing anything in the current hotel and it really shows). No pressure in the hot water meant cool showers. Previous occupants had been smoking in the room and it smelled awful with even the bedding and towels smelling of stale smoke. Breakfast was a joke. Cold food and insufficient staff who, to be fair to them, were doing the best they could. At the bar it was £9 for a glass of wine! So in summary, the Copthorne Hotel is still pretending to be a 4* venue and is charging 4* major city centre prices but is absolutely awful.
"OMG - What a mess"
Having stayed in many hotels what a major disappointment. Arrived eventually to what appeared to be war zone. Buildings demolished and major roadworks and diversions. Hotel car park was full so parked in one across the road, which is actually cheaper for an overnight stay. Hotel is very tired and on arrival in room surprised to find no drawers so what you do with your clothes if staying longer than one night' Room was also cold as was the bar area that was until returned to room after show and then was so hot couldn't sleep. Breakfast in morning was a queue for a table which was even longer when we left. Good location but wouldn't stop again with plenty of other hotels in area.
"Work in progress"
Not the best time to choose. It's currently in the middle of a major city centre rebuilding project. Access is difficult. Noisy. Tried to get pre concert bite to eat and found the restaurant deserted of both staff and customers. More success post concert with a decent omelette from the bar menu. Hotel looks in need of a refurb. Room adequate but bed not huge and mattress very soft. Would have appreciated a bottle of water in the room. Breakfast fairly indifferent. OK so it's a fairly bog standard hotel at a reasonable price but it was not a particularly pleasant experience and we would look elsewhere next time.
"Location is brilliant "
Stayed here recently with a friend as we were attending a show. Location couldn't have been better, as soon as we parked in the hotel car park we just walked everywhere. Walking distance to all bars and restaurants too. We had a short walk to the Christmas market which was nice. The hotel is clean with nice bed linen, but I think it's extremely tired and could do with a refurbish. The breakfast wasn't included in the £140 for one night which I thought was a bit steep and the breakfast wasn't all that great. Buffett with eggs that have been there for ages so no soft fried eggs and the hash browns were soggy. For the £8.99 it was poor value for money because I couldn't eat it. parking isn't included either!!
"Lovely rooms and great breakfast. "
Central location perfect for German Market at this time of the year. There are a lot of road works going on around hotel and access is not that easy. Parking is very limited although it is cheaper to park for 24 hrs in NCP car park opposite (£9.00) as hotel is £12.00. Rooms very good and eat all you want breakfast well worth £8.95.
