Long wait to check in, lift glacially slow, room tatty - lead at back of tv stuck on with blu tak, mould on wall, light switch filthy. Breakfast was ok but whole place has the air of somewhere about to be closed down because there is scant evidence of any money being spent on it. £5 for wi-fi!
"Excellent place to stay!"
We stayed here after being let down by another hotel, and it was excellent in every way. The bed was memory foam, the room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was large. We would definitely recommend it if you want somewhere to stay in Birmingham.
We had previously stayed here a few years ago and as we were going to the Rep we decided that we would stay there again. Yes some areas of decor are tired but hardly an issue in my mind. The lady at check in was very welcoming and when we had a problem with our key and gaining access to our room she and her colleague were very helpful and even offered to swap our room. I would say pay the extra and get the club room. The bed was extremely comfortable and the blackout curtains meant I actually slept soundly, something I rarely manage! The restaurant for our evening meal was very nice, the food very tasty and the staff friendly. Again the chairs need replacing but a minor detail. Breakfast was full of choice and again the staff were polite and friendly. Will stay here every time I need to stay in Birmingham. Thank you Copthorne!
"Great location and comfy bed"
We stayed here after a gig in the Barclaycard arena and it was an excellent choice for a hotel. The location is great and a 5 min walk from the station and the arena and round the corner from broad street. We did worry if it might be noisy from all of the partiers, but it was fine. The hotel corridors look a bit shabby, but the room was fine and the bed was large and super comfy. It was great value and perfect for our stay, so I would definitely come back again.
"Not 4 star! "
I stayed here for 3 nights this week for a conference at the ICC. Positives - ideal location for ICC which is a 5 minute walk away, very clean, friendly and efficient staff and good breakfast plus the most comfortable bed and cushions ever! Negatives - maybe it was 4 stars 20 years ago but certainly not now! Very dated and in need of renovating. Food & service in the restaurant. Waited absolutely ages for cold, congealed and disgusting food. Also in the middle of a building site so only views are of construction sites and it takes ages to drive into the hotel because of all the works. I had a pleasant stay but with so many other more modern hotels nearby I wouldn't stay here again.
