"Home from home"
We recently stayed here and were very impressed. Lovely homely decor and the staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable and the room quiet. Staff went out of their way to be helpful including bringing us coffees out to the comfy fireside sofa in the lobby after having finished breakfast in the restaurant.
"Just ok "
Room was ok and clean. Easy access and easy to find. Breakfast was pretty poor and on a large room that was really cold. I was the only person in the room and then some others arrived. The staff seemed to be more concerned with setting up other tables than dealing with the people at breakfast.
"Cheap but needs refurbishment"
I am a member of the Millenium hotels loyalty group and this hotel came up really cheap before Christmas so I decided to give it a go. On the plus side it is not central Cardiff which means it is a quieter place to sleep and the Hypnos mattresses are fab. On the bad side it needs full refurbishment and some little extra things in the rooms would not go a miss. Although the rooms were very clean the dark wooded furniture had seen better days, the phone was about to pack up and the hair-dryer looked like something from the seventies. In the bathroom you could do with a full toiletries pack not just one tube of shampoo and one bath/shower gel. There were no tissues and no shower cap. The bath and shower gave out good hot water but could be modernised. The staff were very helpful but room service it took me four calls down to order and then I had to also remind them for a menu as well. The magazines in the room in Cardiff I read back in 2013!
Rooms are quite comfortable, and clean. The pool and gym are of a decent size, and our daughter enjoyed swimming. The bar food is distinctly average and the service lack-lustre: the coffee they served me was lukewarm, spilt everywhere and clearly burnt, and the platter of breads they served was not worth the money (heated salad anyone'). Restaurant food was ok, but not quite good enough for a hotel this size.
Four generations of family went for afternoon tea a few days before Christmas. From the initial greeting to the very end it was spot on. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful, particularly Laura. The food was plentiful and varied (even for the vegetarians and picky eaters), finger sandwiches, lovely warm scones with jam and cream, barabrith, Welsh cakes, giant profiteroles and mini lemon meringue and mince pies. We had our choice of drinks, including a hot chocolate for the 3 year old in the group (although he had not been paid for) and were offered more drinks part way through. All in all a perfect afternoon with family, thank you
