"Cannot be faulted once we finally checked in."
Stayed in the Copthorne for a Rugby trip as part of a large group. We arrived at about 1 to find that quite a few people had been waiting around to check-in but then again, standard check-in time is not until 14:00 anyway. We went and got a drink but the constant queues to check-in means we didn't get around to it until around half three. Considering the hotel was expecting such a large group on game day, I was disappointed that they weren't more prepared. We got one of the newer rooms and aside from the smell of new varnish, the room and in-room amenities were immaculate. The room was front/road facing but there was no problems with noise. Breakfast was very good and there was plenty of options to choose from. The location is ok. Shops and public transport close by if needed and a £12 taxi ride into the city centre.
Friendly place, lively pub, nice lobby, good breakfast, large bedrooms, typically british dated decor in the rooms (and that includes those windows that you can never really shut tight unless you tape them closed) but very cozy after all, soft towels in the bathroom, lack of sockets for the multitude of electronic devices which the modern traveller drags around. Large, free carpark, good internet. Very comfortable beds despite non-feather foam pillows.
"Royal mint experience and spa break"
Royal mint experience is great day out and is only short drive from hotel and hotel breakfast is really good with lots of choices and friendly staff. Given it 5 stars as staff are friendly. Only negatives I had was some new member of staff trying charge me for hot chocolate drink when the breakfast menu stated it was included free. Room service did not change towels etc on Saturday morning (Whilst we was out) When we got back at 7pm a phone call to reception had it sorted with head of house keeping making a note to ask her staff why 😊very good customer service If you want eggs Benedict or kippers you have pay £2.50 extra 🤔 They have a chef cooking 🍳 in breakfast area so eggs are freshly cooked for you 😀 Lovely hotel easy to get to and very clean plus rooms are quite big with table and chairs 😀 Trouser press in room as well.
"Excellent Stay dont believe what others say"
Goid Afternoon, Stayed for 1 night and to be fair cant believe how mean people are really with their reviews the world seems to have gone hyper critical for no reason yes hotel is dated but it is very comfortable and the decor is clean and in good condition. The rooms are very large and excellent value for money staying at the other hotels mentioned in a previous review means a lot smaller rooms of no different quality at a much higher cost in a noiser setting, personally a much more spacious rooms is preferable with large free car parking. The windows open and in good condition so plenty of fresh air which is preferable to very drying air con which you wont find in copthorne and I was very happy with this.Nets no issue again if needed the curtains are ample which are blackout. Iam a hotel manager myself and we found everything to our satisfaction which is rare, yes the hotel is a little outdated But in very good condition and VERY clean and soft fluffy towels, huge soft beds with snowy white linens. Staff are very obliging we had a very good friendly welcome from Amber who was very attentive and nothing to much bother for her Top Marks to her a very pleasant young lady and very good at her job nothing flustered her. The bar staff in particular a tall confident young lady with dark hair serving food Saturday lunchtime was also very good, friendly and again attentive. I would happily return, the beds are of good quality and very comfortable. The night manager even went to the trouble of making me a hot chocolate on our return having been walking around City centre in the rain which was very much appreciated. Top marks to Copthorne and all their Team you did an excellent job for us and we really enjoyed the comfortable spacious surroundings. I would happily recommended and will be returning.
I have no caveat this review by saying that we did not escalate the issues to the staff as we had unpacked and we're too lazy too move! Good points. The bed. This is the saving grace as it was the comfiest bed either of us had ever slept in. Fantastic sleep. And it is big. The breakfast was ok. Nice selection, bacon was a bit of a letdown but everything else was nice. I ordered poached eggs and they were perfect. Bad points. We have stayed at the Copthorne in Sheffield and the difference between the two is massive. The decor is so dated, think 70s and you won't be far off. Such a disappointment. The bathroom. Oh dear. Do any of the management ever inspect the rooms' The towel rail was so covered in rust, the ceiling was stained. Couldn't make out if it was mold for certain, but either way it was off putting. We had a ground floor room and there are no net curtains at the window. Which meant we had to close the curtains, therfore plunging the room into darkness, or risk being seen by anyone in the car park. Would I stay here again' No.
