The Copthorne Hotel Sheffield is located next to Sheffield United Football Club’s stadium with a wide variety of popular attractions around it.
"Fit for purpuse"
good size rooms with most needed basics, clean bathroom with marble effect walls and floor (although in need to update the shower screen). top floor and stadium view rooms are recommended comparing to the low high st view rooms.
"Business trip stop over"
Nice hotel, good size rooms and staff really friendly. The only criticism I would have is the chair by the desk in the room was too low and made working at the desk for any length of time uncomfortable
Just stopped over for the night as we were going to a gig in town, which was only a short cab ride away. Great hotel throughout, gave us a beer on arrival as the room wasn't quite ready - food at the bar was also very good
"Bland Uninspiring City Hotel"
Spent 3 days last weekend here. Quite how it's a 4 star hotel and why so many reviewers think it's good is beyond me. It's bland, has little atmosphere and a lack of any relaxed seating downstairs The standard bedrooms are decorated like a hobbit's lounge with wallpaper featuring a misty wood !! The height of the armchair and the bed reinforced the notion of being in the land of dwarfs. As for the layout, 2 electric sockets in a large room and a lack of suitably located mirrors suggests no consideration for the needs of the modern day traveller, especially female. Only had breakfast in the hotel, unimpressed with customer service levels and quality of the breakfast on offer. Management seriously lacking. The good things...free parking on site, taxis arrive quickly when ordered from reception , the hotel and the room were clean. What gets the hotel my average rating was the deal on the room. Overall a really uninspiring hotel.
We arrived at The Copthorne first of all having been allowed to book a Queen bed on the website itself only to get to the hotel to then find out they don't even have Queen size beds available. We had originally booked in for a Queen room with a sofa bed, we arrived in our room, unpacked everything and then opened up the bed to find BLOOD stained all over the sheets underneath and on top of the duvet. We called the reception where the woman was helpful at first and she sent up spare sheets. We decided that we just wanted to change rooms instead because the thought of someone else blood being on the bed wasn't doing it for us. We were moved to another room fairly quickly only to find we had been DOWNGRADED to a normal sized double bed with NO SOFA BED that we had originally booked in for. We queried this to the receptionist who then started to argue with me saying she is right and I was wrong. I asked if there was any way we could at least get some of our money back as we had been downgraded and she refused to give us anything and she was very rude towards me. The whole process took us 3 hours on NEW YEARS EVE to get it sorted out and it was a complete waste of money and time to travel to the hotel only to find all of these problems. To top it all off we didn't even get any money back and we just got a 'sorry'. We will not be returning to the hotel after this experience even after staying before. We emailed the hotel regarding the issues we had only to get completely ignored. Disgusting.
